It's essentially a sheet metal tray that the STM attaches to by screws where the feet should be. Then at either side there's two rack 'ears'. All a bit bulky really, but I'm a sucker for a rack! Even though the valves give slight compression I still like having the dbx for effect at times, and of course the tuner. (Although if I'm perfectly honest it's probably just the shiny LEDs that I like!)

BTW I've got the rack cradle they make for the Streamliner: it's ridiculously heavy and I can't see why they didn't just make rack ears, but it does the job!

The odd thing is the rest of the pots seem fine. I can't help but think this is a Fender influence as my Fender Mustang guitar amp does exactly the same thing on the master volume. But then that's a budget amp and the Streamliners are not! I'm guessing they're easily replaced, but this would presumably mean several weeks without an amp? Think I'll probably just live with it!

I really love this head (STM900) and as its only an issue when changing the volume it doesn't seem that important, but if anyone's found a quick fix or that it gets worse with time it would be useful to know. The best fat tones are found by playing an octave up and using the octave down synth setting. Alternatively use the normal settings and mix 50/50 with the dry settings (on the back panel there are wet and dry outs I think, so you could have two amps set up, one for each which could give a great sound.)

I've got the 900. At bass direct the £80 difference for 300 watts seems pretty good value. Never tried the 600, but looks like there's no difference in features, so it all comes down to headroom. The only problem I've had so far is a scratchy main volume knob, but that really doesn't bother me. With the gain, make up volume and main volume controls it is still very easy to access low volumes for practice though. It does sound amazing, and it is so simple that it really is almost impossible to make it sound bad! Andy

It really is. After getting very frustrated with the mark bass tubes that don't do anything it's great to use an amp that can sound vintage or modern with just a couple of tweaks. I can finally sound like Bernard Edwards on Good Times!! It also seems to give enough valve compression that I can get rid of my dbx as well. Now if it only had a tuner I could walk to gigs...

Hi, I went to see Mark at Bass Direct today. Amazing shop and really great guy. I purchased a Genz Streamliner 900 and two Vanderkley 1x12 inch cabs rated at 8ohms each and they sound great. I'm a bit confused though: Mark said to link the two cabs together, ie one speaker cable out of amp to first cab, then out of that cab into the second cab. I didn't think to ask at the time, but is this not series linking and therefore 8+8ohm=16ohm? Before I've always linked two 8ohm cabs one out of each speaker out of the amp, which in my understanding is parallel linking and therefore 8+8ohm/2=4ohm and therefore more efficient?! Can anyone clarify for me? I'm sure Mark must be right, but don't want to muck things up!! Thanks, Andy
