That can't happen. Modern IEMs are controlled by their user. With a laptop, tablet or smart phone you have complete control of volume and your EQ. If you blow your ears out, you are the one to blame.

Whilst I agree with the thrust of that, I know of several occasions when someone has gone into their phone/pad to change settings to their Aux... and adjusted the wrong one.  :/

People should know better... but they are people!

  2. I've tried ampless and if it works for you it is apparently the end to all backline GAS... you just have GAS for the latest pedal and/or IE.

However, I didn't like it and I've reverted back to my amp/cab and my custom moulded ear plugs.  What I am going to do is get new plugs as mine are 10 years old and though still in good condition, I think my ears have changed shape and they don't fit as well.

Each to their own and 'vive la difference' as the Scottish would say!

Probably all you'll see at this point is a bunch of electronic components on a hacked down chassis as its still a WIP. But If you check out the old style Ashdown Little Bastard 30W head you'll get an idea of the final dimensions. To get a 100W valve head to this 16" or thereabouts footprint is a fair achievement. Usually a 100W valve head is a big beast.

Alternatively search on BC for Handbox WB100.

I get more isolation with the Comfort Comply’s than I do with any of the other shapes.
I get the KZ’s we’re always heading to the floor when I had them. No part was ever hooked in my ear, so it was always just the tip holing them in.

I think that is pretty much my findings.  Not got a problem using the KZs as listening devices for a laptop etc when there is no ambient noise but gigs... hmmmm

I’ll get you a few tonight.
Yes, they are very low profile and hook much better in my ears. Although I now have the IE400, which is the same Size, there are a slightly different shape and while more than comfortable, the IE100 os still a better fit.
Id be happy with either, ive now found that the ear tip makes more difference. I’m now using large Comply Tsx400’s and these are just perfect. Shorter and fatter than standard foam tips, so give me a nice ear filling isolation.

I'm using the Comply but the isolation is not good.  Could be my ear shape or that the KZs are quite large so pull/twist.  I'm less worried about nuances of 1 v 5 drivers and/or mid range availability; I need to get the isolation sorted otherwise I'm turning up the IE volume to offset the drum bleed through from the acoustic drums.  :/

  6. I've just bought one of these and as a former owner of both USA Stingrays and Sterlings, they really do punch above their weight and get a very good 'Musicman' tone despite being passive!  If you want that MM tone but in SS, do yourself a favour and buy this.  :)

I was seriously tempted to go for the full fat USA short scale but after trying this out, I'm not going to shell out x4 as much cash.  :/  Not saying a USA wouldn't be better but not 'that' much better.

  7. I've bought dozens (literally) of used £1000+ basses from Europe over the past 20 or so years and price/value was/has been one of the reasons I bought from Europe (+ a few from the USA when £ v $ was good).  However post Brexit, the 25% increase and the weakness of the £ has meant that there's never a point where an instrument purchase makes financial sense, I may as well wait and see if the instrument that I've an interest in, appears for sale in the UK.  Likewise, I've sold/traded basses 'to' Europe in the past but now, European buyers won't pay what the value is now!

so I've plumped for a lekato at 47 quid on amazon. Cheaper than saturday afternoon when it was 59 quid

I'm going to try it for my 80s duo. I get tangled up every time I pick up or put the guitar down (I dont play on every song)

I'll be stood right next to the receiver at all times, so we'll see what happens. If it's no good, I'll send it back

I got the same unit, with the intention of sending back when (if) it was cack; turned out to be perfectly acceptable.  It is NOT a pro unit and wouldn't stand up to hard road use but for the price I can 'hear' no discernible difference between it, my previous £250 Line 6 unit and a £500 unit I borrowed.  I'm sure with studio headphones or on a test machine, you'll note differences but in the pub/club with a band/PA going I can't see you'd grumble.

@warwickhunt I have similar electronics in my Stingray Tim Commerford long scale. The cut/boost push pull is indeed a large change, volume wise. I have taken that bass to a couple of jam sessions and via both an Ashdown class D set up and a Fender Rumble 100 combo, used the normal setting with the push/pull out (i.e not cut) to get a decent volume at the way the house amp was set up. It’s even more noticeable in series mode on the pick up!

I'll hold off on judgements as to how I'm likely to use it till I hear it in the full band setting but the output variation does defo seem to act very differently with certain amps.
