  1. This all makes TOTAL sense. I'm looking for an ABZ because I've been so impressed with the Combustion but want better. I actually don't like the flamed top, I love the pickup selection, I love the tone, I would like better hardware and a preamp with passive tone control. It's also that I've played my bass most days since I got it and have met and really liked Sheldon so. I understand why you didn't go with them in the end but this is something I've thought long and hard about. This is the build I've agreed with Bass Direct Model: AZ - ABZ Pickup Configuration: 3 - 3x pickups Number of Strings: 5 £2950 Body Wood: S - Swamp Ash Contrast Layer: O - No (Standard) Top Wood: O - No (Standard) Pre Bleach: O - No (Standard) Top Color: NAN - Natural Back Colour: NAN - Natural Finish: Hardcoat Satin Pickguard: OO - None Pickup Type: FDV (Alnico - Standard) Electronics: RND - Neve - £455 Neck: RA - Roasted Ash - £510 Fingerboard: M - Maple - £190 Inlay Style: D12 - Dots with 12 Fret D - £75 Inlay Material: K - Black Pearloid Side Dots: K - Black Pearloid Headstock: O - Non Matching Tuning: O - Standard Hardware: K - Black (AB, Z, Super J and P) Total: £4180
  2. Really appreciate your taking the time to share this. I spoke to Mark at Bass Direct yesterday and I’m pretty sure what I want. Just a couple of small details to confirm. I’ll share the spec once I’ve got it confirmed.
  3. Oh wow!!!! That’s awesome!!! Please let us know all about it when it arrives…
  4. Fantastic. Thank for this. I am in conversation with Ashley at Bass Direct and he’s helping me spec up an ABZ. The only fancy thing I really want is the roasted ash neck. I copped a feel of a NAAM demo bass Sheldon brought to GuitarGuitar and I was smitten!
  5. I got my Combustion in November 2019 and it’s been an absolute joy and pleasure. I’ve played it most days since I got it. I’m coming up to a BIG birthday and I really feel like getting myself a Canadian instrument. I am not bothered about a fancy top, but I love the roasted ash neck. I am looking into speccing up an ABZ but it’s kinda scary to be considering spending between 4 and 5k on a bass. Any advice?
  6. Don’t have the money, the space or any use for this bass but damn I want it!!! GLWTS…
  7. I would LOVE to have five minutes with that rig!!! Hehehe!
  8. No, but imagine the power!!!! Especially having a pair of 8x10" cabs - one clean and one distorted! Phwoaaaar!
  9. Well Hi Jake from Trickfish! I honestly never expected someone from your company to reply to this post but cheers for the update and I wish you all the best with this amp. Good luck! (what a nice man)
  10. That can do 2x2500w at 4 ohm https://www.bassgearmag.com/trickfish-amplifications-unveils-groundbreaking-bullhead-3k-amplifier/ blimey!
  11. Just found this thread from loooooong ago but I wanted to say a bit about a new (to me) TC Tone Print amp. I've had a BH800 for a few months but just never used it much - my live/practise rig is a CMD121 that I can put on a trolley and take on the bus or tube. In terms of size and weight it's knock-out. I also have an NY121 cab that I can use as well, though that means taking a car/taxi and honestly I don't often need it. Also, for home practise I go through a preamp into a tiny pair of desk monitors that gives me a nice full-range sound that doesn't go through the walls and annoy the neighbours. But... I ended up with a TC BH800 amp and though I've had it for a few months I've not had the chance to try it out but I'm away from home and have the NY121 cab with the head and finally got the tone print to work. And... I have to say it's a lovely, lovey amp. Really sweet, warm tone. There's a valve dirt tone print that can add just a tiny bit of grit to the tone that makes the whole thing very warm and organic. Very impressed. Not sure what situation I'd use the TC in but at the moment I'm enjoying it enormously!
  12. I had one of these. Really incredible piece of kit, light and loud and well built. I’d say very HiFi, very revealing and sensitive- would love to have tried it with a vintage valve head but was epic with my Markbass LM III. Total overkill for my needs but I kind of miss it. GLWTS
  13. Cor! That's a fancy EUB! I've just gotten back into the world of fretless and I was tempted to get an electric upright but the cost of entry for the sake of trying out is just too much.
  14. I have the same setup. I take the combo on the bus and tube with a trolley so I can take my whole rig on public transport! I’ve rarely needed the exotica but it’s great when i do. GLWTS. Fantastic rig.
  15. I'd accidentally been sent a six string pack and rather than throw away the sixth string I offered it on Basschat for free. MarcDan asked for it and after I'd sent it off we got chatting and he very generously sent me a sight-reading book and some top transcriptions - very much appreciated! Lovely to deal with @MarcDan and a credit to Basschat. Cheers!
  16. Would it go down to two ohm? It was a crazy notion... anyway. I don't have the space or the application but I can still dream can't I? This is an excellent piece of kit at a good price. GLWTS!
  17. Do you know what? I had a dream... I dreamed of four of these stacked up to make an extremely easy to build 4x12" 1600w stack!!!!!
  18. Yeah, I saw this but I've found the eq on the Darkglass to be very odd and nothing like the standard graphic eq you'd get on an amp. I'm not sure if the gain/reduction is too subtle but you don't get dramatic changes in tone - I guess the point of the EQ on the ADAM is to change the tone of the distortion, not to change the output tone. If I want to totally roll off the high end like using the tone control on a passive bass I use the treble on the Metaphors - does the job beautifully.
  19. I LOVE the distortion on my ADAM. It's a top-notch preamp I use daily going into a desk and the cab sim is oustanding. I like the compression, though I don't use it much BUT I've never really liked the EQ ... but last night at a rehearsal it made a lot more sense, dialling down the lower frequencies to calm a bit of boom in the room through the supplied GK 2x10" combo. It's not a "nice" eq for making lovely sounds, it's a live tool for sorting out problems. It doesn't do the nice smiley-face scoop/preshape slap tone that a TE is perfect for, but that's okay. Maybe one day I'll get a GEQ pedal. I think.
  20. Hi. Just checked and someone messaged me first so it's on hold. Apols.
  21. I'll post it back to Bass Direct later today if nobody wants it. I have a phobia of things going to waste!
  22. I've got one that I run with a CMD121 combo. Fantastic bits of kit. GLTWTS
  23. I accidentally got a six string instead of five string set. Not worth returning for exchange as the postage would be more than the refund so if anybody wants a 30 guauge string send me an SAE and I'll post it back. https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/dr-dragon-skin-quantum-nickel-bass-strings-medium-multi-scale-6-string/ It's from a multiscale set but there's no tapering on this one so it'll fit on anything.
