  1. I had one of the series 1 USA pro jazz basses. The v mod pickups were fantastic, though very smooth when compared with other basses side by side but I thought they were fantastic pickups. I remember them giving a very good signal. Maybe an issue with the vol pot?
  2. Mine has maple fretboard and neve preamp. I went for maple as the basses and guitars I’ve preferred seem to have them but I don’t think I’ve got the skills to hear a difference. Pau ferry looks better tho IMO!
  3. Awesome things. Is there a noticeable difference between maple and rosewood fingerboards?
  4. No problem, thanks ever so much for trying. Worth a go!
  5. That’s very kind and much appreciated.
  6. Hi. Can you do me a favour? Do you know if the person who took them put the set on a 5 string? I just need a low b so if they’re not using it perhaps I could ask for it? Cheers
  7. We have a sound bar that's the same. It was great. Until firestick. Now there is off/tooquiet/tooloud .... never been higher than that. It's bloody infuriating.
  8. They have the coating on the inner wire, so the string your finger makes contact with is not all plasticy. They last a fair bit longer than regular strings but won't be as long wearing as fully coated but honestly, the only coated strings I get on with are Elites and they don't do those in Multiscale.
  9. Dingwall. I just restrung with the Dragonskin+ nickels after dragon skin black costed SS and there’s more bass- low and low mid - more signal and clarity.
  10. I just found them too quiet, lacking in bass, scooped and scratchy BUT the ones I'd got were coated so I may be being unfair. This is the irrational thread, of course.
  11. The ones I got by mistake sound more like cutlery than a bass. I may be missing the point though.
  12. I have an irrational prejudice against stainless steel strings. Who on earth likes the things?
  13. I bought these by mistake instead of the Dragonskin+ Nickels and I just can't get on with them. They sound too scooped to my ears and the feel is just too rubbery for my fingers. They've been on my Afterburner and have been cut a with a couple of winds to spare and I've only had them on for a few weeks, but being coated you could get a lot of use out of them. Free to anyone who sends me a stamped, addressed envelope.
  14. Very underrated instruments, from what I understand.
  15. I have seen quite a few pros using a Sire. Just the standard cooking models. Very respected.
  16. Absolutely brilliant. I flipping love a jazz bass, and I adore a matching headstock. Very nice
  17. I’m afraid I can’t see the pictures.
  18. Dream bass? Blimey, well, I lust after a 5 string Precision and I’d love one of those Rickenbacker 5 strings they made for a while. A Wal just because they are so iconic. Part of me would love an early 70s Jazz but I’d never play it. I did see someone had made a Dingwall Combustion with a custom body fitted with those Simms type pickups and Luthisand preamp so kind of a DingWal and that should be out of this world. But last year I took receipt of my own Canadian Dingwall made to my requirements and that is my dream bass
  19. I feel inspired…
  20. Lobster just did a review of this model and it came off very well indeed. This has a really pretty finish. GLWtTS
  21. Had a proper conversation with the guitarist. He was very understanding - he's known for a long time that the band wasn't my vibe BUT we're going to do a few open mics as a sort of accoustic duo with him switching between guitar and keys and I can break out the fretless! We do vocalise well so it' ought to be fun...
  22. Hiya. Curious why this has popped up again from 2023…
  23. They are really good! I used to run one with a CMD121 combo and that made an astounding rig. 500w and you could carry half in each hand!
  24. I hope Dr Showbiz helps you out...
  25. UPDATE.... I've been trying to play those runs in Immigrant Song with a pick for years. Pretty much every day I've done Ionian on A, Ionian on B and Myxalydian on C and today I got soooo close to being able to play them at full speed along with JPJ! Gaaaah! I'm within touching distance! Seriously though, it's been years getting to this point and I know if I keep plugging at it I'll get there.
