1. You tried Axetec, Bubinga...or even is it worth having a word with Andy(?) at Wizard pickups? (A bit of aa "you never know", I'm afraid!)
2. Revised price of £310 OK, using my permitted bump to advise of price drop....hmmm. I guess my bass will go a wee bit quicker but the amp's gotta go first... Greetings pop-pickers...glad to see all the newer faces and many of the hardy perennials! My bass combo is no longer much used and needs another loving home. Here's the ad I'm shortly placing in various scurrilous sites(sorry, upmarket emporia)but thought I'd offer it to a Basschatter first. Please note (though I guess I'll still be asked), I wish remarkably no more, but nowt less than [s]£350[/s] £310 for this and am unable to take anything in trade. I'll try and include a link to my external gallery with pics(the "copy" is just about verbatim of the ad as follows. Finally, my apologies if I don't instantaneously get back to you(am desktop only) but will do within 24 hrs latest. The Eden sound in a very back-friendly(42lb in old money) and extremely versatile combo. 250W RMS(at 4 Ohms), 1x15" speaker(also tweeter). It has a very wide palette of easily-shaped tones with the added joy and relief of all its many other features being actually useful ones, and easily shapable on the fly. On the tone and range side, it has separate bass/ mid/ treble controls, a switchable "quasi"-parametric sweeping from 40Hz-10KHz and the Eden "Enhance" control: a highly usable pre-shaped tone curve that essentially "scoops" middles and boosts bass/treble. It also has switchable onboard compression and a –12dB pull pot for active basses(...though I do like the way my active bass drives the amp without it!). It's a clear and well-balanced sound, fully capable of dealing with the low stuff without squish. I've run both my jazz fretless and Status 5-er through it and both sound sublime, and I do like me tone, me. Feature-wise, just useful and sooo practical in a wide range of musical situations: balanced(XLR) out with level trim and ground lift(yeah), FX send/return jack sockets, headphone output(with or without speaker), output jack for external speaker. Dimensions are: 62.5cm(W), 45cm(H), 41.5cm(D). This amp's sturdy build and covering are in very good condition: I "gigged" it most weekends over the course of last year...er, well, in a church worship music setting (so not exactly beer and teethmarks!) where it was a rocker if I got to volume 3. I've loved this combo as it's very portable, dependable and with such a wide tonal palette yet still easily configurable. OK, I've used better compressors than the onboard one but the Nemesis has so many musician-friendly features and has just been rock-solid. Perfect for pub and small club gigs, well loud enough for rocking church worship dos, though an extension speaker would be needed for larger venues. I shall miss this amp sorely, but I'm having a reshuffle and find myself doing far less bass and far more guitar, and need to concentrate on the latter. Though portable, this is still a bass amp(doh), so local pickup infinitely preferred or via a meet within a (very) reasonable radius. I'm sorry, the price is for a cash sale only. 3. Oo. Very attractive and nicely priced.(This is of no immediate help Schnozz...but as soon as my PRS goes...)
4. ..I love it when you come out with the Yams...lovely! (I also would have guessed from the jpeg at a 3-piece mahogany body.) So surprised this didn't shift like a greased weasel Noel... a set neck guitar with mojo, beautifully crafted, with a hard case..for just over 3 ton. Does a seam of Yammys run under your house?!
5. Skezza, I do apologise: I was only checking PMs and haven't looked in for a couple of days. Yes, you're right: push-pull on tone splits coils. Man that's some list..I've seen less well-stocked music shops! No thank you, as I'd be back to my usual pattern of not having a house so much as a music-kit storage space.(If you have a Jeff Beck Artist strat under the bed though, I'll get in the car...!)
6. The Gibson Les Paul and the Fender Japan strat are now SOLD, in addition to the Vintage bass. I am willing to consider suitable trades as regards the PRS Custom 24...though for those little guitars with 6 strings: my bass department is monstered by my Status, ta.
7. These pups are in good nick and I included them as part of my recent sale of the above. I further testify that I find our Stacker to be a chap with whom to deal with confidence.
8. By the way all, I must apologise for my lack of clarity...a bit rusty after a year off: I'll be happy to ship within UK; £10-worth of postage costs included in sale; payment= cash for local collection, otherwise to my bank account via direct transfer before postage. Sorry to PMers for my causing needless confusion.
9. Badboy: replied, thank you. Bassdude: I'd contribute a tenner for shipping within UK but not outside; apologies.
10. Replied, Stacker, thank you. Bless ya Jim...no ACG I see!
11. ADDED THURS 20th OCT The Les Paul and the Fender Japan have now been SOLD. I'm willing, as per my post below, to discuss suitable trades as regards the PRS. ADDED THURS 13th Oct: I'll be happy to ship within UK; £10-worth of postage costs included in sale; payment= cash for local collection, otherwise to my bank account via direct transfer before postage. Sorry to PMers for my causing needless confusion. The Wizarded Vintage Icon VJ96 on the Basses For Sale section has now been SOLD.. Allrightythen: I trust you'll research my Basschat pedigree here, as it's finally time for the moment I've been putting off for a few years: I'm both moving from a recording to a live environment and confessedly deeply desirous of a very nice Parker Fly. I have for sale the following...note that details below are brief: for detailed pics and full specs please visit my gallery as follows, else this post will be a mile long: http://www.pbase.com/doverow/gfs Please PM me for more details or mail me at the addy shown on my gallery. 2002 Gibson Les Paul Std; honeyburst, 60s neck. It has been upgraded with BKP Mules(4-conductor), CTS 500XL pots, RSGuitarworks .022 caps between V and T pots and .001 orange-drops caps on V controls; the neck Mule has been wired in reverse polarity for the quasi Greeny sound and is easily reversible. I can only say this is a jolly superior Les Paul, though should the new owner wish to restore it to factory spec, all original controls and pickups(Burstbucker2..now called BB Pro, I believe) are included, as is the Gibson USA case. £1350 2003 PRS Custom 24; whale blue, hardtail, Dragon 2 pickups; Vol, Tone and 3-way switching. A few whitened marks on its figured top and buckle rash courtesy of previous brief owner: the nice Mr Manson form Exeter was as pleased as I that it went to my loving embrace. Case included. £1075 Fender Japan '68 Reissue Strat; CIJ model from 1998/99; 4-bolt neck, 2-piece natural ash body and maple neck, lacquer finish. It's had an executive-class upgrade: 250K pots, Wizard Tweed-Tone pickups, Graphtech vintage saddles with graphite inserts. Before its upgrade, the sound had the wiriness of a 1985 Sqiuer and now is impeccable: should the new owner wish its "factory preset", included are original pickups, Fender-stamped vintage saddles and all bits. My, this one I need anaesthetic to remove from me to be honest. Includes scuffed, old-school square Fender USA case. £750..and the only one I cannot budge on price. Right, having got the text up, I'll attempt the small pic uploads, but the gallery ones are better!
12. This bass is now SOLD, subject to the usual clinking. Yes, the Jaco-esque fretless one: I'll assume you already know the spec. I've had it upgraded as follows: factory 500K lin(honestly) pots replaced with 250K log throughout, along with Wizard 64 pickups. I've retained the .043 cap, strung it with Status Hotwire half-wound .40s; the sound is wider, more well-balanced yet darker than its previous factory incarnation. You're aware that this bass bats above its average but I'll not gild the lily as despite its superior sound it is still a far eastern import of course. I'm selling this as my Status more than covers my, er, bases, quite adequately...thus priced at a friendly £120, which is quite less than I paid here for it as stock. Hopefully flash will let me post a pic here...please note I've put several pics and more details on my photo galleries here: http://www.pbase.com/doverow/vint By all means PM me or mail me at the addy that is on my gallery at the link above. Ey hankyoo.
13. I've edited my original reply as it was not too helpful, but do so to both attempt some sort of clarity for Schnozz here and any future SG-floggers, in which I'd include ourselves. Noel, thanks, yes. Yes, numbers beginning 02 did begin in 80...but ended with 024215; 0254 numbers began in 81: and, yep, there's a grey area in-betweeny. It also seems easier to be "more definite" from 1976 to 1980 to be precise with dates of both SG1000s and 2000s, than afterwards, do you agree? You're maybe working from the same database as me, so we're also saying, yes, 05 numbers ran into 82...but again, given that 1981 ended with 059618, and 1982 began with 059620, one can still thus be definitive. Thing is, if a pickup has, say "SG 56 etc;" stamped on it, it will also have the month and day stamped on it too(I say this for other readers' benefit) So, for example, if one's pups read SG 56 3 13 (for example), chances are they're made or at least stamped on 3rd March...and we're assuming 56 to be a 1981, again as chances are, but with your caveat that it might not be. If one then has a squint at the guitar serial numbers for that year, then in most cases surely it is possible to cross-match: if one's pickups date-stamps marry up to one's body's serial number, then usually it is then feasible to be spot on with the year. Yes, it's clear that serial numbers 024216-025409 seem to be unaccounted for in terms of whether they're 80 or 81...but I'd reckon that if the guitar had dated stamps with day, month and year, one could still make an educated guess... The point with Our Schnozz's is that it's unlikely to be a 79, right? Anyway, I'll shut up now, as I've stepped onto Schnozz's thread long enough. Thanks for sharpening me up Noel.
14. Top man, glad mystery solved! I have a feeling that some changes Yamaha introuduced might have been as "lawsuit repellents", particularly for models finding their way outside Japan, and that for guitars staying within Japan post-1980 there were a host of options as regards push/push coil-spits, "with-grain" 3-piece tops as opposed to earlier cross-grain centrepieces, single-piece tops, etc., That some earlier models have this, some later ones have that, only adds to the confusion(er sorry, "enigmatic mystery")...and attraction..of these. Am actually most grateful for seeing your ad, as I'm putting up my own 1980 tobacco-burst one shortly, and you confirm my assumption that price would seem about right(given that "value" is what a person will actually pay, an' all that). Every success Schnozz.
15. My tuppenceworth by way of a bump for this classic. Am a fellow Yam owner and I reckon you're spot-on with 1981, as I had to do the same detective-work to ascertain the age of mine: serial numbers beginning 02 through to 05 denote 1981 for both SG1000 and 2000....and how likely is it that the fastidious Japanese manufacturers would misprint a serial number! If you wanted to be as anal as I am(!), you could also have a squint at the stamps on the underside of the pickups: if there is the number 56, this would verify the year of manufacture to be 1981. Absolutely best of with the sale old chap!
16. Hi dean, you make a good point and certainly you have a beauty here: a Status cracker and compared to new, undoubtedly cheap at the price, hence the many admiring views(myself being one). This is no sleight to you: yet I too would gently the float the possibility that a little "budgement" on price might set the wallets pinging. I say this, as recently I obtained from these same hallowed forums a 5-string headless neck-through for around the same equivalent as your price. Mind you, there is also the custom-colour factor of yours...and I for one am nodding in agreement when you say that nothing else plays quite like a Status. Anyway, my tuppenceworth; the very best of.
17. Well done mate. I do apologise, as I merely meant to sound supportive;I do have a 1980 coiltapped non-S tobacco one and was all excited-like!
18. Yep, for the UK as from 1980. I've never come across a guitar that coil-splits as well as a Yammy SG2000. Bootiful.
19. Being a 1982, isn't that a 2000 with an S? No subtext meant; lovely instrument!
20. Righto. Fortuitously, one our local shops has a couple of the smaller combos; time I went I reckon.
21. Thanks folks, that's really interesting and useful. I've sort of become aware that wattage "gets spread wider" rather than louder with bass matters, and moreso with that low B. Interesting comment about the "right pedal" ezbass: this would indicate the PJBs(or the right PJB) do have the headroom, then, if preamped..?..
