  1. Know what you mean about playing above the 12th fret & have done a few things with two tracks of low/high bass in the past. The big problem I've found is when you play a chordal bass part with open strings over the top of another bassline & you overlap the same octave range - can make it a bit undefined when you mix it down. Will have to take the plunge & give it a try, I guess... B.
  2. Hi - bass was the first instrument I picked up and I've always found it difficult to make the transisiton to guitar - too many strings & not enough space for my fat fingers! However, I'd like an instrument to put over bass when I'm recording (not in a band at the mo). I had the idea of buying a cheap short scale bass & stringing it with piccolo bass strings to basically turn it into a big 4 string guitar. I was thinking that something semi-acoustic with a pretty close string spacing at the bridge might do the job - possibly a cheap violin bass copy or something like a Danelectro Longhorn. Is this a bad idea? Cheers, B.
  3. Hi - I've been through the eBay dispute resolution scheme and it does work, but it takes ages. Bought a bass a couple of years ago that was advertised as having a 'low' action - when it arrived it turned out that you couldn't actually play a clear note past the 12th fret due to it bowing! In the end, a local bass guru wrote a letter for me backing up everything I said & eBay eventually refunded my money (they let me keep the bass too, but that went to the bass guru for parts). The letter made all the difference - if you can supply supporting evidence (e.g. a scan of a letter on headed notepaper, or an e-mail with a business address/phone number that allows them to make independent contact) it will do wonders for your case. Good luck - you'll sort it out if you are persistent... B.

  8. New year bump!
  9. Hi, Replied to your PM. I'd prefer collection as I only have a Warwick gig bag for it & no hard case. I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne. Cheers, B.
  10. Bump - price drop to £150
  11. Bump - looking for £170 for the bass with gigbag
  12. Hi - having a bit of a clearout so my Tony Levin bass is up for grabs. It's the maple-necked version with the flamed maple top & a 3 band active EQ. Currently strung with Thomastik flatwounds to give it a lovely warm tone, it was recently set up by Howard Satterley who used to run Howard's Bass Place in Newcastle upon Tyne - he's given it a really nice low action & a much more expensive feel than you'd expect for a Chinese MusicMan copy. I'd like to find it a good home & am after £150 - it cost me £275 new + strings, set up & Warwick gig bag - I've only ever used it in the house. There are a couple of dings on the back of the body (see pics), but it looks pretty much as new from the front. I'm based in the north east & would prefer a collection if possible as there's no hard case. Let me know if you want any more info. Cheers, B. P.S. If there's anyone in the north who needs any bass work doing, I can put you in touch with Howard - he's still doing stuff from home & he usually does a great job! P.P.S. Edited for typos. 13. Hi - can you post some pics of the headstock damage & those pics/vids please? Also, would you be able to post it within the UK? They're a bit of a unique shape... B.
