  1. Is it feasible to bleach it or use hydrogen peroxide to lighten it?
  2. Don't use the surround, fit the pickup in a hole in the scratchplate.
  3. £109 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  4. @Bassfinger Sorry for the long weight (!) It's 9lbs, so no lightweight, but not ridiculously heavy either… so some of the 'extra weight' was possibly due to a few weeks between rehearsals? For comparison, Embassy comes out at 7.5lbs and feels light. Not sure how accurate my scales are, I'm using the weight myself and pick up bass method.
  5. Got back yesterday to find a very soggy amazon package by the front door. Lekato strap seems well made andceven comes with a selection of plectrums and four black(!) Grolsch style strap washers. Edit.. and a a very comfy strap it is too.
  6. Would mean the end of custom colours 😞
  7. Rock'n'roll excess, eh?
  8. Took the self destructed olympic flats off my teisco and put the old but not worn out roundies of my Jag ss on instead. Same diameter but had to slack truss rod off a fair bit.
  9. Far from bullet proof. Not for throwing in a van. Sound loud and beyond criticism.
  10. That looks remarkably identical to one I bought from a 'locakl independent retailer' for about £2 more (and no p&p)
  11. How many other basses are affected? This could be rife across the industry. It's possible that humbuckers don't actually exist! I have already returned my Epiphone Embassy to Thomann so they can check if the so-called "probuckers" are really mutant p-90s. I am braced for the trauma and disappointment, but clearly it's better to have the test done by a professional. I don't think I could cope with the sudden change of tone experience of discovering the lie myself.
  12. Get a 5-string, the B-string makes an ideal thumb rest for the 99% of songs without a low B ☺️
  13. Leo is a bass monster. I have a 10 Years After live album from 1968 (Live in Europe) and his blues-jazz improv is outstanding on it.
  14. Just a thought. For some reason 2" Fender straps with the smooth backing are much more comfortable than ordinary canvas style 2" straps.
  15. OK I've ordered one. Will try it with my HB, which has stolen the 4" one I bought to complement my Embassy.
  16. Found this one, channelling Graham Bonnet...
  17. Thanks to this thread, I now know that Leon the 'grocery store lobster' has moulted.
  18. WERE YOU MIS-SOLD PPI (PECULIAR PICKUP INSTALLATION) CONTACT US NOW!
  19. There are two things that are forgotten every time this debate comes up: 1 A tenfold increase in power only doubles perceived loudness. A 1000 watt amp is only twice as loud as a 100 watt amp, all other things being equal (and they rarely are). The difference between a 100 and 200 watt amp is real but modest. 2 Distorted sounds are perceived as louder. Think of how you set your pedal so clean and distorted sounds are the same loudness, then you use it with the band playing and the distorted sound disappears. That overdriven valve sound is perceived as louder than it really is. https://derby.openrepository.com/handle/10545/583125 Also, speaker efficiency makes a big difference. The Barefaced Big Twin mentioned above is 100dB, a boost over most setups (it's marginally more sensitive than an SVT 8x10 so it will sound noticeably louder than most 2x12 or 4x10 cabs.).
  20. If an engineering definition of 'better' is achieving the required functionality and durability with the minimum of resources, complexity and cost, then the original bridge is 'better'. Aesthetics is entirely subjective, but i'd want a fifty year old P to have a 50 year old P-bass type bridge. As for the sound, as others have said it's marginal and different is not necessarily 'better', however we tend to perceive small changes in sound as improvements.
  21. Whohooo! That's my combo 😎
  22. Mental note. Speakers yes. Amp & combos perhaps not.
  23. Ok, this bass has one drawback, it is well heavy. Did three hours of rehearsal today and found myself sticking it in the stand more often than usual. Got loads of positive feedback from the band, especially on its looks but sound was good. Strings are now losing their zing. They really couldn't believe the cost and wanted to know the 'normal price'. Out of the four songs we were working on, one (dear darlin) was ideal for 5 strings and we tried Sweet Caroline (!) In various keys which it made easy. In general it was little harder to play than a four string, only got lost a couple of times.
  24. Or 'Bont' as we used to call it. But no, the seco d severn crossing.
