  1. Check out Soundwear bass cases - not cheap though (I think they're on offer now for £650'ish down from £900 - big discount). The best case for my old English bass. Zip goes right over the scroll and the best protection available. Not light but superb with 1"+ padding. I've had mine for 10yrs and it still looks brand new. You can unzip it on its side and the case opens like a clam shell enabling you to lift the bass out (it keeps its shape, almost semi rigid). Obviously you can reverse the process to fit the case. For my big 5st I've just bought a Tuff-Bag Deluxe. Had to import it from the states (Arizona) but its almost as good as the Soundwear, comes in much cheaper at £420. Zips all the way up and lighter. Depends on the value of your bass and budget I suppose and if you intend to carry it far/public transport (eek!!). (I'm not involved with either Soundwear or Tuff-bag... I just own them. In 30yrs of playing I've found none better to suit MY needs). Have a look at them.. See what you think 😁 I would say pop in to have a look at mine... But I guess that's out of the question these days!
  2. The Bergantinos really are superb. I loved mine.
  3. Hi I've just gone through your exact dilemma... I've been using an AE212 for all my gigs (from theatre shows, covers band, panto, sessions and even in orchestral settings) for years and it's been absolutely superb. But 12mths ago due to the weight of it I decided to go modular using single 12s. After trying loads of manufacturers and talking with Alex Claber I chose Barefaced, going with their Big Baby 2 and a Super Midget (both 12", 8ohm 600w - although they can handle a LOT more!) My Berg weighs in at 29kg but the Barefaced stuff is a ridiculous 10kg!! Yes, I believe the AE212 has a bit more bottom but both Barefaced cabs can be EQ'd to compensate (although they are MUCH better for double bass than the AE). They are totally transparent and clear, additional to the "bass thump" I now can hear every detail of every note (I've had to brush up on my chops too as now I can't get away with poor technique - they're that clear!) Obviously linked together they are immensely louder than the Berg. Longevity due to the lightweight construction is unknown to me but I always pamper my gear so I'm not worried about that. Although there's reports of of them falling down a flight of stairs with no damage (they're so light they bounce! - the Berg certainly wouldn't 😂😂) It's was a sad day to say farewell to my trusty and excellent AE212 but I'm so happy with my choice to go modular. Hope my experiences of changing cabs helps. (I'm not involved with Barefaced and I expect most high end 12" cabs will suffice but there is life after Bergantino! Just my opinion) Although the new NXT does look interesting..... 😁 Have fun choosing.
  4. I had a 2x10 also, and yes it was fantastic but to be honest IMO the 2x12 is in a different league! Thunderous sound but still articulate.
  5. Bergantino AE 212 for sale. (Now Sold) I've been desperate not to sell this cab as its been my all-time favourite. Usual solid Bergantino construction, warm, punchy and loads of definition. Not used for the past 3yrs as I use single 12 cabs or "in ears". It's just a bit too big for the type of playing I do these days. 2x12" Neodymium speakers with adjustable tweeter, 4ohm impedance, Bergantino padded cover no knocks or damage in excellent condition. See pics for condition. Let's make this as painless as possible because I really don't want to sell it (the missus is going nuts and wants the space back!) Priced to sell quickly as if I think about it too much I'm going to regret it! I've basses and amps if anyone wants to try it out. More pics and info available by request. £550
  6. Pm sent.
  7. I'm in Llantrisant if you want to have a go of my setups... I use Barefaced and Bergantino cabs coupled with Genz-Benz and Gallien-Krueger amps. All superb. I use pirastro Evah Pirazzi strings on 2 out of 3 of my basses (and a set of slap strings on my other bass) plus Evahs on my Yamaha SLB100 stick bass. Bass guitar - I use D'dario XL nichols on both my 5st elec basses, and a stinking old set of labella flats on my P bass. Covers all my gigs from Opera, Classical, Choral, jazz, theatre, big band, rock, pop, bluegrass etc etc. Let me know if you want to pop round. Cheers
  8. Still for sale??
  9. Yes, difficult to answer... Yes it is heavy as I specifically made it out of special acoustic void free ply. I've no idea of weight but it's about the same as my Berg 2x12. (I used to leave it in theatres and concert halls so I never had to move it much). Loudness - very difficult to say... It's rated at 150W but to my ears I think it sounds a whole lot more. To compare I used to have a Hartke 500W 15" combo and it's definitely louder than that from what I remember. (plus it's louder than my old Trace 350). No idea if it'll keep up with your drummer? Depends how loud he/she is? But the 2 12" Paragon speakers really do cut through the mix. It is very punchy. If you're local might be worth a trial?
  10. Hi Paul Some people say it sounds like a double bass but I disagree... With the Schaller magnetic pickup and with no acoustic properties I think it sounds like a huge P bass (can't be bowed either). I use my Yamaha SLB if I need a sound closer to the real thing. Although with the double bass neck it does feel EXACTLY like a DB. I'm in S Wales just outside Cardiff Price - I'd like a million pounds mwahahah...! (but as its a hand built thing with a stupid paint job I recon just below £200 would do it). I just want it to be played. There's a lot of my time gone into it, would be a shame to leave it gathering dust. Cheers Graham
  11. No probs. I'll let you know. Cheers
  12. I'm not desperate, it's only a case of it taking up room. I played it very regularly up until 2012 when I bought a NS CR4T. Since then it's lived on top of my stairs gathering dust! (hence the dead strings). If you are serious about buying Thing I am more than happy to hang on to it for you.
  13. Thing folds down to about half it's size. The end pin retracts about 2 foot and the "belly brace" completely folds away. That's all that's left is the metal frame and neck. Not sure about posting as it's heavy but you're welcome to arrange a courier. See additional pics for sizes.
  14. Thanks leschirons, I'm glad you "get it" too. That's not far off what I was looking for (closer to £180 if possible). Today i've been practicing for an upcoming event and "Thing" has been scowling at me from the corner of the room... Needless to say I didn't do any practice as I just plugged Thing in and started grinning! It's a HUGE sound! Proper laugh out loud! It's ridiculous and ludicrous and just plain weird! I've just got too many basses to keep it (and frankly it scares all my other basses) No idea about posting it - a courier would refuse as its too weird (ugly?) for them 🤣😜? Probably collection or I can travel a bit if it helps anyone? Its just so funny to play!
  15. Thanks for looking. Yes it sounds like a huge monster when going through a 900W amp and a 2x12 cab. It's certainly unique! I'm looking for it to be played and not have to live in my garage surrounded by bags of cat litter and old paint cans! It has too much history for that fate! Make an offer, you might be surprised...
  16. Absolutely sure it can't be bowed... So sure in fact I had to go and buy a NS CR4T stick bass for a tour! It's a fun bass and sounds huge! (cat not included... 🙀😂😁)
  17. Up for sale is my EUB aka "Thing". It's a 1950's double bass neck grafted onto a stainless steel frame (actually the neck has some lovely flaming of the grain) . It has a standard 41.5" double bass string length and an old Schaller magnetic pickup (fully adjustable) proper bridge and nut. People have described the sound as an angry P bass(!). Obviously it can't be bowed but all the ergonomics and dimensions have been copied from my 200yr old "real" double bass. The frame is stainless steel and fully adjustable - it collapses into quite a small package. It's currently painted in a rather crappy blue/white effect (I must have been drunk at the time...) it was acid etched originally back in 2005 to show off the stainless but I was fed up with finger marks. I guess repainting it black would be the obvious call? The Thomastic strings are completely dead, the pickup works perfectly, the paint is chipped in places and it's not exactly light - no case either. It's great for loud, great for growly, great for turning heads (sometimes even for the right reasons!). I've played it for many corporate events even theatre gigs, weddings and I've played it for Obama, Clinton and our shower of sh*t politicians, the G8 nations conference, TV stuff and most of the European heads of state and all the celebs when they've come to conferences at the Celtic Manor Resort. I've absolutely no idea what it's worth? If it's use to someone out there make me an offer (there's about £100 of stainless steel in it). It'll need new strings and a polish /paint. Reason for sale - the missus is going nuts (I've got 6 basses - 3 double basses) and she needs the room for women stuff! And my garage is full of clutter so I can't stick it in there... What do you think?
  18. Thanks for all the interest. I've someone looking to take them on Sunday. I'll mark the listing as sold if he's happy with them. Cheers
  19. Hi Thinning the herd.. For sale my GK MB150E. 2x12 2x 12" Paragon speakers in a sealed cab 150w into 4ohms. Fed up with lugging the MB150E plus the matching 12" extension cab I commissioned a 19mm Baltic Birch ply sealed cabinet with both the 12" Paragons from the MB150E and the extension cab creating a MB150E 2x12 combo. It's a very small footprint for a 2x12 combo 400mm wide x 350mm deep x 770mm tall. Satin varnished cabinet really looks attractive on stage. With added grab handles and a double padded cover included plus a printed copy of the owners manual. The punchy warm GK sound without having to schlep around the extension cab Thanks for looking.
  20. Hi all I have a pair of Euphonic Audio CvL 1x10 cabs for sale. Ultra rare, I'm told EA only made 6 at a huge loss just to see if their engineers could do it! Each cab has 1 kevlar coated 10" speaker matched with a 5" and a 1" horn. These were the genesis of the famous "Transmission Line" speakers (the whizzy etc). They are the first of the 3 way crossover cabs (with adjustable mid and high attenuators). Rated (very conservatively) at 250w 8ohm. Response from 41hz to 15khz. My two has a slot each to fit an amp (see pictures - amp not included in sale), I've fitted a stainless grill plate over one of the slots. Plus they both have tilt back levers. These are very highly rated cabs with studio grade audiophile reference sound. Stacked together they are simply "nuclear power in a suitcase" *quote bass guitar mag*. I've had them from new and always looked after them. Never let me down and my double basses sound superb through them. They really fill a room with the sound of your bass. 450mm wide, 390mm deep and 460mm high (or 920mm stacked for the ultimate mini stack) I'd prefer to sell as a pair, otherwise they're £150 each, £280 for the pair. *and no, I don't know why one has the red EA logo and the other has the white logo? Thanks for looking.
