How was your open mic or jam night last night?
p4ul replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
What? My local "The Welly" passes a full blown wellington boot about for the cash and have a card tap attached to it, AND the beer goes up by 10% at 8pm whenever musicians play as a "help the starving musician levey" which is clearly advertised and no one balks at it cos free entry for ever. -

I had the "not so totaly insane" idea of having a small whiteboard for Keys / Progressions etc. And a big board with the running order is a very good idea! Fixed -
Success! DMC Micro flashed to latest SW version. USB Midi read by MAC and editors Homebrew Midi > TRS cable passing data allowing DMC to change ENZO programs EXP trs Pedal data is reading in DMC. DMC is passing EXP data.. BUT only when the Enzo is set to MIDI OMNI [this took some swearing to find out] Now it is whammy time! Dear GOD what a faff though, spaghetti everywhere! DIN cables can do one. Now to tidy up the surgery, proof of concept is done though, and I am very happy. [ Spoke to soon, my Midi cable hack just died of plastic fatigue ffs.. hey ho, build a BETTER one 🙂] https://disasterarea.io/dmcmicro/#MultiJack > brilliant and free Enzo Editor and LIbrary > Amazeballs and free

Multifailing -
Several reasons, I like to try make stuff, abelit badly in some cases 🙂 I don't have a midi cable, but i do have some vintage DIN/midi plugs in a box, a barrel jack socket and a bit shielded pair ... [ in a previous life, and with no previous knowledge, tools or internet, I reclaimed and rewired 120pin EDAC cables into interlinks for my mobile studio, from that I learned that one does not pick up a soldering iron and simply walk into mordor] Sauron's Multiplug Yeah, I could just buy the things pre-made from ebay, but where is the fun in that? And when I have f**ked it all up, and failed, but learned a few things then I will go to fleabay 🙂

I think you have already answered my query 🎉 I can just change the "jack" to a "socket" or chop the expression pedal cable and add a Midi plug. I have been known to massively over think things before now.

I think this is the hurdle I am trying to jump.. But I may not have been clear in my original question because I was already confused 🫠. Internet rumor has it that this should work per this vid "The connection path: EXP -(trs)-> DMCmicro -(midi)-> Meris midi I/O -(trs)-> Meris midi/exp input" My issue is that the expression pedal does not have a DIN so I need to convert the stereo Jack to a "MIDI" plug 🤯 For external control, the micro USB can hook up to the MAC and deal with the rest of the midi functions via the editor etc. [I hope]

new irrational prejudice is unlocked! -
Thanks for the replies, I have scrounged up a few plugs and cables now so should be able to hack something together with a bit of T&E. I did search the interschtrumf but got more and more confusing and conflicting results the deeper I went, so came here for some sanity 🧐 Allegedly M'lud, for Meris The cable MIDI > TRS should be soldered like this: Pin 5 > Tip - Pin 2 > Shield - Pin 4 disconnected. We shall see. If I work it out will post the results here.

Bass brethren, I have ventured, probably very foolishly into midi madness. My question is, has anyone here made their own [or have any knowledge of] Midi [5pin] to TRS jack to link a DMC micro to a Meris Enzo? Any known pinout weirdness/issues or is it "standard" issue?

Bloody Capos or "Satan's Claw" I have a hard enough time working out what the guitar player is doing without them cheating. My heart sinks when they whip out a "well what fickin key are we in now" clamp. -

Moustaches. I can accept them on WW2 fighter aces, but now they just say "sexpest" to me at least -

I irrationally fear White Eggs. If I open a box of eggs I need to see nice brown eggs, white eggs prolly come from alien chickens. -

After years of avoiding open mics like the very plague I now go to 3 on a semi regular basis. Open mic in a pub - sign up sheets, collabs, solo performers, improv jam session, some times a bit over run with Ukuleles, but other times steel pan, and other odd instrument players arrive to change up the vibes, it is generally great. Afrobeat Jam in a record shop - House band invite players to join them for improv jams, no sign up sheet, no Ukuleles yet. Got to have some chops to keep up with the HB but welcoming and good vibes, musically interesting. Jazz Jam in a pub - House band plays then just leaves, cue desperate musos fighting each other for a spot then proceed to make a collection of independent "jazz" solos dominated by the drum solo, more of a sonic jumble sale than a jam imho, I might go back when I grow a new ego. Disorganisation aside it was ok perhaps I arrived on a full moon. -
I still have a 63 Hofner Verythin that I picked up 30 years ago for a song, plays lovely, bit battered and not all OG but the neck is a joy until you hit the dusty end of the dusty end, sounds great and light as a feather. Way nicer than the recent VT offering imho. Admittedly, does not get played as much as it should, rocked it in the 90's in a grunge outfit, and sounded great in a stones trib band, but she is a very old lady now and a bit fragile for pub gigs 🙂 *waits for Behringer to re-issue for £9.50

Cheap String Retainer (information for the use of)

It might be my shonky 1980's Applause build.. the machine heads are not set as far into the headstock as a real Fender and so are not completely in line with the nut. the angle of doom is inherent in the OG build. Damn. Machine heads not in line + machine heads scalloped = badangles & buzz. Bugger.
