That looks genuine to me, the only thing that might have been changed is the pickguard, didn’t the sunburst come with a white one?, I can’t exactly remember now it was a long time back, I briefly had an Olympic white one

I remember when they came out, nice jazz, the special also had the Greasebucket tone circuit

but not a very subtle tool.
I think they definitely can be, if you watch some of Sean Hurley’s videos his effortless playing and tone is just so good , I don’t think you’d get the same outcome if it wasn’t a P bass

I’ve gone full circle on this, back in the day when I started earning a few quid I bought precisions and loved them, then I got the jazz bass itch and played only jazzes for many years, they gave me the nice lows I preferred for reggae and dub, now I’m into both but really appreciate the sound of the P bass more than I did then, I couldn’t be without either

Very nice indeed, congrats that looks a beauty, I’m normally into 68-72 Precisions but I’ve been looking at a few 66’s lately

I’ve thought about doing that a few times to one of my not so expensive precisions, I’m assuming it’s the one on the Sean Hurley P bass , I’ve got the Bassmute on one which is really good but they are a bit pricey

The switch on mine used to stick occasionally so I took it to ashdown and Dave removed it for me, I didn’t use it really , he did say that they wasn’t a great idea in the first place,
for headphone practice I use the Nux pro

Precisions and Jazzes should be passive.

FWIW, from the not very clear pics I think it’s genuine, if the seller could check that the blocks are stickers ( which is quite easy ) , if they aren’t stickers then there’s something wrong and I’d stay away from it

Probably showing my ignorance here. The truss rod tool looks to be the hex type, which I would have expected only on a truss rod adjusted at the headstock end. There is no sign of it there on the bass being offered.
Some also have the Allen key nut at the heel, pretty sure my 2014 jazz has that

It's quite common that authentic Fender serial numbers are not recognized in the serial numbers database.
