Urban Bassman

I use a pedal train jr and I think that they are really excellent pieces of kit. Very simple no frills, you've got space underneath to fit your power supply and enough space between the metal slats to route power cables and signal chain. Looked at others and felt this was the best for me. Only have a TC Electronics foot controller (for my Rebel 450 Head), a Boss Bass Chorus and an old DOD bass Flanger and a power supply I bought from Maplins - it all fits and goes in the bag the board came in - Easy. Yep took the plunge and got one along with a 2 x 10 and 2 x 12 cab. Done a couple of gigs and a number of rehearsal and so far so FAB! Worth getting the foot controller as well IMHO. Strangely enough I tried some Roto Sounds a few years ago and really didn't like them....Put some Ernie Balls on my 'ray last week and I'm loving it will let you know how they last.

One was way better than the other in terms of playability and sound, I sold the worse of two and now have my white '61 which is great, both sound and playability. And it's the year of my birth. I've also had a mid 80's US MIA Jazz Bass that was, frankly, pants. Poorly built, didn't play very well at all. Got rid of that as soon as could. I've always preferred a good quality pre-owned instrument. Not because of the "mojo" factor - real or not. But put simply I think you get more bass for your money!

They put great prices up on their web site but when you enquire they don't have it in stock. Having said that they usually can get stuff quite quickly. The Brighton shop is a separate entity to their online shop. They will check the "shop" stock if you ask them to however. I was there (at their shop) a few months ago and I do recall that they have a large selection of Warwicks, so they might have a Thumb BO. Worth a phone call to see if they have. Not much help I guess....

Given that my ideal sound is that fretless Wal sound, what should I be looking at in terms of bass and amp? The amp doesn't have to be too powerful as I am not planning on playing anywhere except home and with friends in the near future, and the bass needs to be fretless and either 4 or 5 string. My budget will be around £1.5k and it doesn't have to be new. All suggestions welcomed.[/quote] I would suggest that you look at a second hand Overwater Progress. I had a four string fretless Progress III for a while and it was fabulous, beautifully made and you can get all the great fretless "mmwhaa" sounds out of it too. Here's my new TC Electronics Rebel 450 and 2x10 and 2x12 cabs First time out on Saturday and very pleased with it I was too. Oodles of power and great tone. The cabs are surprisingly light for their power and the amp is very light as well. Took the '61 P Bass and the Alembic out for run too. Lovely stuff. [attachment=23041:John__s_bass_rig.jpg] Enjoy!

You get masses of low end rumble from the 410, even with a 5 string. So unless you feel that you need to make more a visual impact than a sonic one I reckon the the 410 is all you'd ever need...
