My final gig tonight and I didn't go out on a high. Hand cramp meant I could barely hold my pick in the last few songs and my playing sucked.

We were opening for a Motorhead tribute and unfortunately, the crowd weren't in to our stoner/sludge metal.

Not a good night. Even the drive home was horrible with the wind and rain.

Sorry to see this, but maybe confirms that you are making the right decision at this time. I hope you can still enjoy making music in some way though mate

  2. This afternoon/evening. Played for a friend's birthday, our biggest stage with this particular band and only the second with laptop backing tracks. My first time running the laptop and one minor hiccup but overall it was a great performance. We are in a good place and really enjoying it 🙂

I just suggested Two Tribes to the band and everyone was on board. Then I looked into what was involved...

    This is a cool version

I'm pretty sure the original (live band, not studio) was played on a 4-string tuned to drop-D which is a bit easier.

  4. A bit of background about my entry. Recorded by my band Aimless Arrows in our luxury headquarters somewhere in West Wilts (ok, its a shed but its a posh shed)

A cover of a Bob Dylan classic, our lead singer Simon arrived at practice - announced that he had learned it and that we should record it for fun. I didn't know the song but quickly cobbled together a bass part based off the chord structure and vocal melody. We laid that down pretty much straight away and that is what you hear now, this was the 3rd take iirc.

As you can hear there are many vocal parts, also some festive sleigh bells! Vintage piano and sax (and drums) were programmed by Jeremy our lead guitar player and studio master.

Odd question, but I’ve never found another bass player (in person) with the same thing.
my middle finger on my plucking hand catches the strings. I have to keep it cut to the skin to avoid a clank noise on the string?
    do you guys get that?

I do, have some expensive clippers and a diamond nail file to keep them tidy. The middle finger clank is something I really don't like
