    (edited to add) @SICbass

I've colour coded the pots as mine are in completely different places to yours and also neither match @Happy Jack's description 😃

Upper front - volume, no indent, green

Lower front - pan, indented, blue

Upper rear - bass, indented, red

Lower rear - treble, indented, yellow

Judging by the tape it's been apart at some point...

Thanks for the super-quick help Jack. The odd thing is, that the upper rear (i.e. volume) is indented and the lower rear (bass - boost/cut) isn't. Do you reckon the guy wired the two the wrong way around? Would the bass even work (i.e. make a noise) that way?

I have one of these at home (and I'm pretty sure I have another complete preamp too)

I'll see what mine are like and let you know later

Edit - mine is also fretless, you don't see many!

  3. I usually play a 5 but don't mind a 4, especially for drop-D. 5s are just easier to get around on and the low notes are cool, they go great with synths too.

I own way more 4s because all the weird/old/cool stuff I like was made that way. Very few of mine see a stage but they are there for noodling or studio requirements. Someday I'll upgrade my two fivers (fretted and fretless) but it's not a big need.

In which case it is an accurate rendition of tool!

Well worth it - saw them in the O2 last year, in general I don't like stadiums but that was fantastic. Remember to keep your phone in your pocket!

Yes! I saw Puscifer recently so am fully up to speed 🙂

We saw a Tool tribute band called Tool Shed. I was rather sceptical but a mates band was supporting so we went.

Tool Shed are awesome, the bassist was absolutely dead on with tone and playing but the drummer was absolutely incredible. That dudes not normal. The guitarist and singers were awesome as well but for me it was all about the rhythm section.

    I'll definitely see them again.

I'm seeing the real deal next month 🙂

  6. That is really excellent, thank you for for sharing. Some really evocative tunes - I was checking off the ones in my old vinyl pile!

Have to agree with @silverfoxnik re. the folk/goth connections - both are significant parts of my own musical heritage and the links are very strong in many ways. As you say in the film though - goth as a movement is an extremely broad church!

That realisation of how your playing is informed by these early influences is a fun point too. I can remember going back to records my parents and peers played long before I started playing - having sudden light bulb moments of "Oh wow - that's where I got that from!"

  7. I have an Ibanez P-bass which is pretty much the same age as me, that's good enough for me. It's a lovely thing and I enjoy playing it.

Knowing we have been around for the same amount of time is a feeling all of its own.

18 hours in and nobody has yet mentioned Valerie?

The Zutons' original actually makes sense. The Ronson/Winehouse version has a feel that is completely at odds with the lyrical content. It's a fun sounding tune, but I much prefer the original.

Had a shower, smoked some weed, went to the afterparty, drank mead, cut shapes with some Hollywood darlings you know, drank more mead, smoked more weed, watched the sun rise from arid hills into the pink-blue hue of an LA morning (the strangest light).

Last night’s gig was one I never anticipated, wanted, but felt compelled and eventually pleased to do. My son died three weeks ago suddenly from a second heart attack a week after having stents for the first one, seems the surgeon did half a job. Julian was 46, three kids, fitness fanatic, my best friend, top DJ and drummer

Today was his funeral. His widow had booked an acoustic duo for the wake in the local pub. However, the girl singer had to leave early for some reason; the landlord knew I played and pointed me out to the remaining guitarist/singer suggesting I might help, so as my gear was in my car I played bass and sang with him for the second set.

It was good distraction therapy, busking 15 numbers I’d never played before with a guy I’d never met. Despite this glimmer of light in a dark, dark day I’ll never be able to rationalise why I’m still here at 74 to write this while he will never read it.

Parents shouldn’t have to bury their children...

Very sad to read this - sincere condolences to you and yours

Wow, I had to do an instant replay on that image.

    Looks a complete ****.

Bit worried about where one sticks the input jack.

Good job it was wireless then!

Unfortunately @diskwave has previous form for joining topics mid-way through a reasonable discussion for what seems like the sole intention of posting something contentious and then flouncing off when challenged.

He behaves exactly like other (now banned) members.

Almost as if it is a duplicate account, this is frowned upon I believe.
