  1. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a good tutorial for a Tumbao? I’ve got a piano one and it’s good but just not sticking. I need something I can play over and over till it’s in the noggin! Basic stuff, I just need to put the notes in the right place!

I have them in a couple of basses. Boosting the bass does increase the volume, but only as much as I'd expect from the bass being boosted.

Actually it’s fine, I’m talking nonsense. It might be a problem on the track where the bass is boosted to 100% for the verse and 0% for the chorus but that track doesn’t exist!

I have the 2013 EB5 bought new for a knockout £550. It does only weigh 3.5kg & the pickups are great.  Very well appointed. It’s not getting used enough, I must resurrect it.

I really like the look of them but a bit more expensive now. Gibsons are a bit of an unknown for me, so it’s hard to imagine what it might sound like!

not sure how the signal would be picked up from the bass to your DAW without a preamp?

I already have a preamp, so I need a line level input but a lot of interfaces with line level inputs have combo jacks and they don't bypass the preamp, it's essentially a pad so you don't clip the interface. Probably no big deal but if you already have a sound you like then the interface preamp is not necessary.

The neck is Jazz bass slim but I don't think it's any different from Cort's usual Jazz style profile. I've never seen anything to suggest that it was carved to Jeff's specification. All Basses are different and wood, even from the same batch, has different qualities but I've owned mine since 2016 (I think) and I've always used .40's on it and I haven't had to adjust the truss rod once. Of all the basses I own, it's the only one I've never had to adjust (well, of all the basses I own that hand truss rods).

Thanks Chris really useful information mate, really helpful!

Something like the Ibanez SR505, very manageable shape and weight, and I’m guessing similar string spacing to the Cort?
Nothing wrong with Bass Collection by the way, the Nanyo range are ace.

Probably a bit modern looking for me... which is the same issue I have with the Bass Collections even though they are 30 odd years old 😀

  7. I’m just looking for a relatively inexpensive 5er that’s not two heavy. Had a stingray (too heavy) an old Yamaha which I wish I hadn’t got rid of! And currently have a couple of bass collections which are great but i dunno if I’d play them live because they are a bit marmite! I just like the look of Rithimic V and the config, obviously Jeff great but not a big factor!

I had one. Loved everything about it except the pickups. To me they sounded sterile and 'boring'. My extremely amateur opinion though, so take it with a pinch of salt.

    Thanks! Was it relatively lightweight?
