from dan a bass japan direct I only know Bacchus as a Japanese instrument company. I didn’t know they had done made outside Japan.

Bacchus top end models is considered on par with  Atelier, moon, dragonfly and momose. I may have missed some but these are frequently spoken about

    Thanks for contacting Dan!

Really nice. What did you find these?

Ive not info on them. Dan from bass japan direct will prob be your beat bet to find out more info tbh.

A guy was selling them locally, I just saw them and thought they were cool. The only thing I can find is a few Reverb ads. But they seems very well made.

My vow to not buy any more gear is failing quite spectacularly! With the purchase of a couple of Jazz basses called Brian!

I don't know much about these at all so any info much appreciated. They appear to be really well put together!

Got some info from the internet

Brian by Bacchus Jazz Bass, made in Korea late 90s, teal finish. Surely in all of guitar history, no brand name as ever been as simultaneously daggy and awesome as 'Brian'. Bacchus guitars enjoy a famed reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail and wood selection in Japan, so much so that they really haven't bothered marketing their excellent offerings internationally. Brian was Bacchus' first shot at manufacturing outside of Japan, and were made very briefly in the late 90s in Korea.

    Model: Brian by Bacchus JB-style
Made: Korea, late 1990s (no serial on these)
    Finish: gloss
    Body: alder (unverified)
    Weight: 4.475kg
Neck: maple, 15" radius, 34" scale
    Pickups: Bacchus 8-pole single coils

They appear to be very similar in colour with one with a blueish green finish which I suppose is teal. The other is green both look very nice and sound great. They are relatively heavy though, they were apparently imported from Japan to the UK.

I only wanted one but they were both excellent so I just got them both,

  4. After waiting for ages for the Jazz to appear! It’s going back, had a look at it last night and a big f*** off crack has appeared!

Pretty disappointing to be honest. No problem with Thomann offered a refund immediately as they have none in stock. Big crack aside I quite liked it so a bit disappointed they have no stock and I have to box it up!

    But the crack is worrying!

Won't the other half get a bit suspicious about having to use a ladder to get into bed?

I’ve got one of these and I reckon I can keep adding levels and she might not notice. But soon I’ll need to take care of the ceiling.

  6. Pretty sure this Custom  Elwood 5a active 5 string has been owned by a one or two basschatters!

    Very lightweight and sounds great!

    -Alder body

-Maple neck and fretboard (nice grain on the fretboard!), matte finish, carbon rods for reinforcement, nut width 45mm, radius 14”, 34” scale.

-Charcoal Frost Metallic finish (lovely dark grey with a dark blue hue to it)

    -Aguilar AG5J-HC hum cancelling pickups

-Delano Sonar 2 active preamp, with a push-pull volume to switch to full passive, with the treble knob acting as a tone.

  7. So the Jazz has arrived and snuck in the house and hidden away. Had to get rid of a buzz on the G string but otherwise seems really well put together! I've only had a few Fenders over the years so no expert so not going to make any wild claims but if someone had said it was a Fender for twice the price I wouldn't have thought anything of it.

I'm a bit of a sucker for white and gold so I love the look but I did see a pic with a white pearloid scrachplate which looked lovely. Have an empty house later this evening so looking forward to having a wee blast!

For Latin influences, check out a bassist called Simon Goulding.

Some fantastic stuff on his website and on YouTube.

Sadly he passed away a couple of years ago but you can still get his ebook courses etc on his website:

    https://www.simongoulding.com/ebook-courses

He offered me some lessons a few years ago and I never got round to it. Awesome bassist with an impressive session CV.

    Good luck 👍

Sad news about Simon, looks like very good content…. Thanks

I got one of these delivered yesterday, ordered through Fruugo, also slightly guilty. I won't get to use it fully until the weekend, when I plan to rebuild my board around it. I've been meaning to try something like this for a while, for split processing and also to accommodate a possible return to dual-output bass. I have an ABY switch pedal on the way that will  let me turn off the high channel easily, since this has no foot switches.

So far impressions are generally positive. The cab sim seems pretty good, does improve the sound, though the effects of the various controls on it are quite subtle, at least through some not-too-great headphones. The preamp seems to need a hot input for real dirt, which it will get since I'll have the Orange KongPressor in front.

PS the full name is Ly-Rock Tone Monster-Amp.DI Bass. Yikes.

What I read but I don't if it's true that the original was manufactured in China and they were running dual production lines! More likely some just got the schematics but it's a great wee thing! (GUILTY!)

The Latin Bass Book by Oscar Stagnaro is really good and he goes into tumbao and all the variations. You can start with the versions where you play on the 1 and then work your way up to the syncopated version where the 4 anticipates the next chord and ties over the bar line.

I’ve been looking at that book I need to get it. I was shown a pattern by a drummer pal where the notes land on the 2 offbeat and 4, which worked and began to make sense

I've got one similar, charity shop find from a couple of years ago. I haven't really done anything with it yet.

The body feels very light but the neck is glorious! I might take it off and use it for something else.

Looks great that bass of yours!
