  1. Well it looks like I’m still in the market for a bass and The MIJ Bass Collection 5 is in poll position. The one offered was great but just not what I was after. Fretless or fretted if anyone has one or sees one please send them my way much appreciated!

I had a Cort B5 Ash that was between 6 and 7 lbs, stupidly light and felt like nothing on a strap. Get a newer one that doesn't have the Bart MkI preamp though.

There is a C5 plus ZBMH local to me any experience of those?

Fender MB5 are exceptionally light - mine was 7lbs - and modern looking.  Sound like a Jazz.  Cheap, as MIJ Fenders go.  Don't see them very often, though.

I’ve never heard of them really ludicrously cheap.

I just bought a Yamaha TRBX 305. Weighs in at bang on 9lb. I like it lots!

I’ m not completely into the way it looks but you can’t fault the price. I’ve had a couple of Yamahas in the past and they were great.

  5. The Sandberg looks great but a bit pricey and I saw a second hand Spectorcore for less but around £800 is probably my max. I’m unlikely to gig with it but I’d like something comfortable to play.

  6. All this working from home has made my eyes wander towards a new bass I don’t need. I’m currently thinking about a lightweight and not too expensive 5. Does anyone have any recommendations? Not hugely keen on the ibbies with the tiny headstocks but don’t mind modern looking, quite like the look of the Spectorcore but I’d probably want fretted and haven’t seen any reviews of the fretted version and I’m a wee bit concerned it might be a bit semi acoustic and old school.

  7. Hi Anon, thanks for the reply, great to hear you had a good experience. I think the inventor, Alun Jones died quite suddenly and the company stopped trading. He invented the Ashbory bass (I’ve spent the night googling). I bought two unused twin transducer versions so looking forward to trying them out.

  8. Hi

Has anyone got info for or experienced of an Ashworth Electronics AJ301P Double Bass Transducer. Just picked one up. I know they went out of commission a while back but very little info available..

    All the best

I bought one of these too and agree, they work great and the rubber is too thin, but easily fixed.

The rubber ripped almost immediately but Thomann gave me a few quid off which was good. But otherwise it's really great.

  10. Does anyone have experience of Evah Solos? I just got a set of Spirocore Solos for a half size bass, I really like them but was a bit surprised by the thinness of the G. I’m thinking of solo sets for another couple of basses and wondered how the Evahs stacked up.  Cheers!

  11. I ended up buying one of these. It’s for a double bass but I saw one with a cello and it looked great. It’s not for gigging but looks nice so can live in the sitting room. Also I find myself sitting on the arm of the sofa to practice and this is the same height... that and the fact I’m addicted to buying things :(28897016-5274-4CE6-8647-F93E71F747C1.thumb.jpeg.7cb26125a2e3a52dba74faef7ba6cbff.jpeg

  12. Hi

i have a really nice old strange sized German DB bigger than a 1/4 but smaller than 1/2 which I use at home. I have a half size set of preludes on at the moment been on the bass for a long time albeit with very little play. I was wondering if there are any other string recommendations, maybe a bit more flexible? Or just stick with the preludes?

    Cheers

I have a hercules DB stand for my 3/4 and it's very stable so I'd imagine a similar cello stand would work well on a 1/3 size. How much bigger than a cello is it?

I just looked and apparently a cello is only 30 inches so much bigger than might need to look at a DB stand. Is your Hercules stand big?

  14. I have an unusual old bass, smaller than a half but bigger than a quarter. I’m looking for a stand just for in the house, not live or anything. I was thinking I could maybe get away with a Hercules cello stand, I don’t want a big massive thing.... any ideas isolated bass folk?
