Don't know much about the Firehawk.
I think it has lots of the same sounds as the HD500x but not as full featured and you can't install the bass pack but it has the app and bluetooth which was what attracted me to it. As I mentioned I just wanted something to practice with and so far it seems great. Built like a tank as well.... need to buy a bag now ;)

  3. I ended up getting a Firehawk relatively cheap on eBay, I know it doesn't have the bass pack so getting useable tones will definitely be harder but the app is just so good for editing I reckon it will be fine. It feels like it might be a product in transition but so far I think it's really great. The hassle for me with multi fxs has always been a clunky UI, making single stomps or no pedals preferable but this is a real improvement.

  4. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the HD 500x as a practice rig? They are popping up here and there around the 250/300 mark. I have a an Aguilar TH 350 and an old EA CXL at home at the moment and it undoubtedly sounds great but I don't turn it up and it takes up space. Just think one of these and some good cans (which I have many!) could be good.

    Any thoughts?

  5. Does anyone know of an extender for a quarter inch jack? I picked up one of those little Samson wireless units and the transmitter doesn't fit in the recessed socket of my Wal. It's just for messing about the house (trying to be tidy!) so no big deal. The only thing I could see was a mono to stereo adapter but dunno if that would work?

  6. I have for sale my white Yamaha BB5000 5 string. I just don't play the 5 string much (at all) and I'm thinking of buying a new amp. I have to say it's one of the best sounding basses I have and I will regret selling it.

It's the classic 80s 5 string, gold hardware super thin neck and for me has an absolutely classic monster tone.

For info, I picked up the bass a few years ago and had a partial refin carried out by a luthier I use, someone had messed around with paintwork on the body, it's an incredible job he has matched the slightly off white colour perfectly.

There are some dings and looks like someone may have tried to fit a different machine head and the pickup surrounds are a bit tarnished. I'm highlighting the negatives here but in general the bass is in great condition for bass that is around 25 years old.

The bass is from 86 to 89 and made in Japan as it's serial config matches the one below and it says 'made in Japan'

    Made in Japan, 1986-1989:
    #-letter-#####. 5I04013.
The first number is an internal code. The letter is the month; February (see chart). The next two numbers are the date; 4th. The last three numbers are the unit number; 13. There is no indication of year in this configuration–just “sometime between ’86 and ’89.

It comes with the original case albeit a wee bit tatty on the outside.

    Looking for £750 plus postage.

I'm going to say the obligatory 'if it doesn't sell I'll be happy' and in this instance it's true!

    Can anyone see this pic!

  7. I wonder if anybody can recommend an electronics person, Glasgow area preferably but Scotland or in fact anywhere!

I have just bought NS Design CR4T electric upright bass. There is a blend control which blends between two sets of pickups, one for arco and one for pizz currently it does not enable the arco section. I knew the blend was faulty when I bought the bass in the hope I could get it fixed.

I have been in touch with NS Design ad they have informed the bass is an older model with the preamp made by HAZ Labs who made pres for Steinberger and Spector. Don at NS has offered to send me some pots they have left over as the preamp is no longer made. Potentially the pot could be bad or the pins going into the preamp could be bent.

The options are getting someone to diagnose the problem, take a punt and replace the pot and lastly I’ve spoken to HAZ labs and they will fix it but I’m not comfortable removing the preamp and then putting it back together.

Here is a pic of the gubbins which is beyond my meagre knowledge!
