  1. The reason they stay in your ears better is they are a fundamentally different design. The old (and still available!) wired ear pods were designed to be cradled by the outer ear. The airpods pro 2 have a squidgy rubber tip that you jam into your ear canal. The airpods (not pro) have the same type of design as the old ear pods.
  2. After a few months of scuttlebutt, it's here! https://www.quilterlabs.com/collections/bass-amplifiers/products/bass-block-v803 My first impression is they've learned some lessons about making a radical-ish amp. They've kept a few of their really unique radical ideas (I don't understand the implementation, but the power section sounds like something quite unique.) but they've made some things more palatable, or ordinary, like they EQ section. I hope this sells well. I love my 800.
  3. Tried one of these at the NW Bash through a super compact (or two?) Sounded ace. Thundering. Great amp. I'd consider jumping on this myself, but I have a Fusion S on the way from Andertons.
  4. So it begins! A great amp, well looked after, and in great nick. Good luck with the sale!
  5. I forgot to do a NAD, but after @ossyrocks was waxing lyrical to me about these old GKs at the NW Bash, I found this baby on facebook marketplace and snapped it up. It's pretty beaten up, but it does sound great.
  6. There’s an interview with Bob Gallien on YouTube where he’s discussing the new line of amps. He talks about his early designs. If I remember, he says that it was usual for the designs of the time to remain stuck at rail voltage if they hit it, and take a long time to become unstuck. He modified the design to come unstuck much more quickly. I’ll try to find the link later.
  7. Thanks for the answers folks. I'll see how close I can get. Turns out I have a close-ish match for that bass.
  8. I love the way the bass sounds in this recording. Warm and round at times, and then really crunchy and rich when the player digs in a bit. How is he achieving this? Is it just great technique and compression? Are there some custom pickups in that bass? Is it a 60s P? Effects? Something else?
  9. I had a blast through one of these at the NW Bass Bash. It was great. very loud, and those voicing switches are opinionated! GLWTS
  10. The dudepit! What a place that was.
  11. I’m an Apple Music user. I like that there are other apps that use the Apple Music database, such as LongPlay and MusicHarbour. Perhaps there are similar things for Spotify?
  12. Wow! There's a blast from the past! GLWTS!
  13. Thanks for the offer Rob, but I don't think an SC is for me just now.
  14. I think I've heard that too. I was thinking about running a Super Mini T(nee Midget) with a BB2. Having heard SCs at the weekend, I don't think I consider the SC and BB interchangeable. But, that's all down to my uses. What I'm really interested in is how close the SM is to the BB. The absent low end you mention is not surprising. And that might be the thing that means I don't bother with the SM. I think I'd prefer an even more compromised sound for even less money. Or, just stick with the BB, which is lighter than my previous 150W practice combo.
  15. I have been wondering about this set up. I already have a BB2 and would like something a bit smaller for small gigs & practice. How do the two compare?
  16. I think Saturday is probably better for me. But then again, I don't gig. Does a Sunday draw in folk who have playing commitments most Saturdays?
  17. This is an interesting perspective. I am learning a lot about the degree of control the luthier has in general, and how much Martin and John have in particular. I'll bear that in mind when I'm trying things out.
  18. I guess I probably am. But I've never tried one of their jazzes. How do you have it set up?
  19. If you mean, I can strap them to the underneath of my boat, to use the extra buoyancy, then yes please! She sits a little low in the water under the weight of my colossal ego. Joking, of course. I don't own a boat.
  20. Yes, I apologise for my part in that too. Thank you all for your indulgence! It was very interesting just how different the cabs were.
  21. I do love the Flamboyant shape too. Mine is an Original, which is still pretty nice... Interesting that you mention neck stability. I have noticed that too. My loft-based man-cave varies in temperature quite a lot, and I do notice surprising shifts in tuning and action. (Not serious, but more so than other basses in the same room.)
  22. Thanks all for the education. It's really something to see how well they both serve the music, across a whole range of genres.
  23. I'll echo what the others have said. Thanks so much to @rwillett for organising, and him and his family for taking care of us so well on the day. I had a fantastic time meeting everyone, and trying out all sorts of gear from the classic to the esoteric.
  24. I'm considering having a new bass built. Last time I was in the Gallery, John told me the instruments they made today were quite different (ie, better) than my old one. (No. 9!) I've had a long chat with Martin about options, but I'd like to see what they're building now for myself. So, does anyone have a Sei built since, say, 2010? Could I pop over and have a noodle on it? Other fancy brands also welcome. I'm in Manchester. In the first instance, let's say an hour or so away? If I don't get much help within that area, I'll think about casting a wider net. Ta!
  25. I still have the 5 string Musicman-style thing built for me by the Bass Doc in Newcastle around 1996-97. Lovely Wenge Fingerboard and a Bart pickup.
