Aren't Overwater offering a road worn option atm?

Can't go wrong with an Overwater...

    Nasty echo in here...

It wasn’t the Roadworn aspect I especially interested in but the nitro vintage pickups and rosewood neck. So got a Fender American Original jazz on the way 🤠

That’s a terrible job someone has done on thick poly. The Road Worn series use nitro thinner paint and the effect is more of an abrasion, someone has just taken chunks off it 😂. No idea who that would naturally happen.

Hope you get it sorted, how much did you pay for it if you don’t mind me asking?

was £900! which i got straight back in person

  3. “King of the budget jazz bass” Low End Lobster calls these and good reason. Firstly, the neck is like glass, smooth no edges, 9.5 radius so super fast to get around.

Secondly, the new designed pickups are killer and the overall build is astounding for the money. Easily better than Squier CV and mid price MIM Fenders

I have wire woolled the body to take down the sheen of the coating giving it a more vintage look

Only selling this as have got nice 60s AO Fender jazz on the way - though if it doesn’t sell happy to keep as back up.

Save yourself some money on the shop price.  Still have box so can ship to UK for £20 on top or meet north west

Pics of wire wool job to take sheen off below - mark on 3rd pic already on body when bought - i didnt bother me - sawe it as an identifying mark

I think what most whizzed me off about this particular guy was his 100% resolve to tell a complete lie in the face of all evidence to the contrary, and to treat me like a complete idiot by doing so. If he'd at east had the self-respect to simply say "OK, my apologies I must have made an error" it would be forgivable to a degree (a degree determined by whether or not he re-lists the item with the same or a revised description). But the implication that I must be an idiot for not recognising that what was a pretty much unused and poor quality likely Chinese manufacture maple fretless neck was in fact a high quality Allparts unit that had been played consistently by him since the late 1980s got under my skin. Interesting that he still has 100% feedback despite the neg I left him?

I met him person and in face value I believed him, he was super apologetic but now with the “road worn” service he can offer, he was lying to my face. And I have a high BS detector- he says he bought it from a shop in 2009 and it’s not been played. But I asked him when was the neck last oiled, he claimed 2 weeks ago, which was plainly untrue as neck was very dry. He said the shop he bought from was closed and he was going to ask Fender- which raised an eyebrow 🤨 but by putting that ad back - shows him to be a scammer

Certainly worth giving Mark at Limelight a call. Building & giving a slight relic does sound fun & probably quite doable but by the time you've bought the extra fettling tools, messed a few things up then eventually still not got exactly what you wanted you'd may as well just pay someone that knows what they're doing to do it for you. That's what I did, Limelight made exactly what I wanted - not the same specs as what you've posted but not a million miles away either, here's mine:

    nice stuff

  6. I've had time to think and i think i need to think about it a bit more- had a chat with DG who was hugely helpful and I'm tempted at my own build as opposed to one of his fine fine relics, as i have realised i just want an amber oiled body with jazz neck set up - i think apart from the electronics, i could do most of it - but I've also not long got the Sire V5R, i wired wooled the body to take the sheen down and apart from needed a red tort guard (it's the 24 fret one, so not seen these yet) it's pretty much what i'm after for now. I also find i want to play it for 10 mins when i get up, and at lunch and after work - so might be a mod project and maybe do a build next year.

Thanks to you lovely BCers =that have given me food for thought - i was getting carried away last night planning my perfect jazz bass, from elements from 1960 to 1974 - here's me specs of the basics of what i'd think would be ace:

The Duroc Signature Jazz Bass 🙂

    • Alder body with nice grain. Amber tinted/old stripped look
    • Aged red tortoiseshell pick guard
    • C shaped 9.5 radius bare back neck with dark rosewood board. Or 7.25 radius rosewood with block inlay 74 neck
    • Lollipop lightweight gotoh tuners aged nickel
    • Bone nut or synthetic bone
    • Low tension flats
    • Fender hi-mass bridge
    • 1960 style stack pots with cloth wiring - orange drop 0.10 capacitor for dark tone
    • Vintage 64 pickups - cavity shielding tape
    • Jaguar mute
    • Aged F stamped ash tray bridge cover - if it fits over the jag mute

Phew! Glad to hear you got your money back.

If you can be patient for long enough, I'm sure a roadworn will come along at some point. In all honesty, I would wait for one - they are amazing basses. So well made, such top quality, great sounding with lovely feeling necks.

My current fave P bass is a Mex "classic series" Precision. It's poly finish, not nitro, but these were made alongside the RW series, I believe.

Yes I think I’ll see if one pops up

I have very little practical skill and confidence with woodwork/ tools etc. and managed a pretty good self build. Being left handed you can't just get all the goodies righties can get so I went on to Guitarandbassbuilds.co.uk and bought a great quality body then went around sourcing other parts and used crimson guitars woodstain. It was reasonably satisfying up to a point. I had to get a professional to finish the job and set up because it's not just IKEA flat pack if you want a really nice playing bass, things like neck shims and so on are a real ballache if you've never done it before. My conclusion was that I'd probably spent more than the equivalent Sire bass but still got something nobody else has in the end.

I guess it depends how much you want the finished product, how long you want to spend of your own time, and if you know someone who can rescue it for you!

The guy I took mine to was pleasantly surprised. He told me he gets tons of people just bringing him boxes of bits because they start kit builds but never get very far.

I’m just inept at doing practical stuff. Give me something to design or coordinate and I’m your guy.

Looking at the advert on eBay it seems a bit odd that he has all the case candy and even the correct gig bag. Some of the dings look about in the right place. Could it be that it is a proper roadworn and someone has had a go at 'improving' it?

The neck and tuners felt right. But the body isn’t nitro it’s definitely a thick poly finish - so it’s perhaps a different body

Have you seen this one , (nothing to do with me), if someone did the body for you it wouldn’t be far away from your picture

So 25% item cost is a good yardstick

I imagine that years of being in EU means we instinctively look for secondhand gear there, when importing from the US might be more cost effective now

Cost me with UPS and import charges about £300 to import a bass earlier this year  - but probably wont again as lost £250 when the GAS faded and sold it on

Nice,  I don’t remember mine being heavy but to be honest I don’t take much notice of weights, great jazz for the price and maybe you could get someone to relic one for you if you’re after that look, this was mine

    IMG_1887.jpeg

There’s one out there same for about 950 weighs 10.2lbs. I’d hurt my shoulder when fell off my push bike so I noticed it after 3 hour rehearsals

    sure are purdy basses

Slightly deeper from front to back than a standard jazz , but quite comfortable, very similar to a 70s RI jazz I had, the pots are really good and at first took me a while to get used to, even though there’s only 2 there’s quite a variety of tones

The 70s RI was my bass for 15 years. Was just too heavy. I’m tempted to get another and just get a super wide strap

I’ve had the flea bass and they are a really great jazz to play, I also like the concentric pots, but as has been mentioned you don’t know how the body wood has been matched underneath , which might be a problem with the natural finish

Yeah don’t know what primer is there. What was the neck like? How fat is a U shape? The pots look great.  I really like the 60s anniversaries too but don’t like the pay ferro neck

All true. But you'll get the thread closed by mentioning it.

Brexit is a banned subject on here. You'll get a slap on the wrists for posting about it.

Didn’t know sorry mods. The problem no speaks of. But yeah get it. It’s a bass forum but it’s stopping us getting basses from across the channel.

ok will never say the word again. Like Macbeth is called the Scottish Play. I’ll just refer to it as the Shittish Play.
