  1. It's now all filled and sanded, I like to put a coat of primer on so I can if there's any slumpage (I think that's a word 🤔 if it's not it should be !?!) But it looks like this had come out OK?
  2. Finally got started on this build! I've filled all the old cavity holes just waiting for the glue to go off then I'll fill it with two pack then sand it all down lovely and flat The body is a slab body so I've got to do the belly and arm carves 😀
  3. That's what I've done now a couple of kit builds then jumped in doing a neck thru @Andyjr1515 is right when you carve the neck and then you step back and look at it it's really satisfying 😊
  4. That really makes the poplar come alive! Looks great mate! 😀
  5. That's come out great! , did you just use a coping saw or did you use a scrollsaw aswell?
  6. I kinda agree that putting 'dragon' does make them sound cheap which they certainly aren't! but 'Ddraig' is a very nice touch, just my opinion but I think I would rotate the dragon 90°so it matches the 'Ddraig'
  7. Not much done today I've sorted out the headstock thickness I've taken the edging off from the side of the neck and headstock in the end I felt it just didn't look right?....... I'm definitely going for Black hardware but after @TheGreek's comment about an Ebony fretboard its got me reconsidering the Maple fretboard and going back to my original idea of Ebony? I think both would look good but.......Opinions please Ebony or Maple??? 🤔
  8. Your right the headstock is a bit too thick I need to thin it down as it's about 20mm at present but it needs to be nearer 15mm, I'm going to try sort that out today.........
  9. I just thought its something a bit different you often see headstock bound with black/white ABS but I haven't seen many with wood veneer I'm thinking that I'm going to go gloss haven't decided whether to try tru-oil or just wipe on poly it which ever I choose I think it needs a nice deep lustre......
  10. It's Oak and its about 0.6mm Because it runs down the neck aswell I thought it would look better it continuing on to the headstock....... 😀
  11. +1 they look superb!
  12. Many happy returns! 🎂 Is this build a cheeky little birthday present to yourself? 😁
  13. My first thought was an Ebony fretboard but I think Maple will be a nice contrast, Maybe you should commission a new build with Andy?
  14. I just bound the headstock, I don't know if it was needed but I quite like it?
  15. I'd like to add a good quality chisel makes a hell of a difference too its worth spending a little bit extra and get a 01 high carbon tool steel set as they will keep a much better edge on them!
  16. I think you've done a great job I'd be chuffed if my first one came out like yours! Have you started planning your next one? 😁
  17. Yeah that's what I thought after I said it! It was a balls up ready to happen let's not run before I can walk!! 😁
  18. Just a quick mockup of how the top will look...... but just imagine Zebrano veneer with matching headstock 😀 I'm still not sure about the colour of the hardware chrome or black?? 🤔
  19. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't show his ugly face again!! I've taken out a little bit more of the neck transition and it feels nice and comfortable, belly carve done and arm carve done I'm really pleased with my first attempt of making the neck from scratch Now to order the veneer, truss rod and fretboard 😀
  20. Yeah that's the bit I mean, I rarely play down the dusty end but your right it does need a bit more out Also I noticed when I looked at the pic of the side on veiw that there's a slight hump roughly where the 12th fret is that needs smoothing out but the whole body is only sanded to 80grit at the moment....... 😀
  21. I've contoured the neck and started shaping the back still got the belly carve to do I'm not sure whether I need to take a little but more out of the neck transition? Also I've still got to smooth off where the body meets the neck 😀
  22. I love the pigeon head whilst he slapping some parts it looks like he's slapping with his palm, I can't slap really and I even know that looks very odd and terrible technique I find what is worse than this is when the likes of the x factor gets a 'band' on stage with the s**t singers amazingly they always have one lefty and one righty faking it!! Why not get some actual guitar/bass players to play live?? And not worry about how it looks!?! 🤬
  23. Yeah their the kiddy! I thought they looked a bit cheap and nasty and the fact they are plastic turned me off a bit!?! but it would be much easier as they are already 43mm I might just order one and give it a go and I'm probably going to buy a blank graphite nut and cut the slots myself aswell just to see which works better
  24. I measured my Ibby 5 string and that has 16mm spacings and at the end of the fretboard the string width measured 60mm, so I think it will just be ok Where did you get your nut from? the only 43mm 5 string nut I could find is some crappy plastic adjustable acoustic bass nut
  25. Thanks mate, I started shaping the neck today aswell I'll post some pics tomorrow 😀
