  1. Something about the shape I'm thinking of using is bugging me but I don't know what it is??........ Is it the length of the bottom horn, is the angle of the bottom horn I just can't put my finger on it but something doesn't look right??............ So I had a spare hour and thought I'd have a play on inkscape and see what I come up with....... I like both shapes but I might stick with the original and I might have to do the other shape as another project.......
  2. My vote would go to 1 MM pickup with pickguard!! I think that would look killer!! 😀
  3. I can't decide on the top wood??........ My choices are....... Panga panga Which will go a lot darker like Wenge when it's oiled Or African Walnut Both will be bookmatched and I will probably keep them natural. 😀

I recently bought Charlie's 6 string Washburn bass as a project, it arrived well packaged and quickly. I'm really happy with the purchase and would definitely buy of him again and could recommend him more!! Thanks again Charlie
  5. I can't really take much credit for the shapes I take inspiration from other basses and then alter them slightly This build is a kinda of mix of an Marleaux Consat and a Skjold Skjoldslayer 😀
  6. I managed to get the template cut and routed out today, I've kept the pickups positioned the same as on the original body.......... I think it's coming along nicely just got to decide on what woods to use now................. 🤔
  7. Yeah I know but because I've made some bad judgement calls on previous builds I like to get other peoples opinions 😁 My ideas of woods for the body is 32mm Ash back (Chambered) with 6mm Panga Panga or African Walnut top and a 2mm demarcation line of some sort in between.........
  8. I didn't know whether to tweak the horns a bit more so they are a bit more turned in towards the neck?? 🤔
  9. Might be a slight change of plan re the body shape here's what I came up with....... 😀
  10. I've never stood on a nail but I fired a 64mm paslode nail straight through my thumb! It ricocheted of another nail on the bit of timber I was holding and then through my thumb and exited through my thumb nail!! I tried to pull it out but couldn't so I then had to drive to the hospital with a lump of timber still attached, what made it worse it was my left thumb so every time I changed gear it knocked against either my leg or the gear stick which wasn't too pleasant!! But back to your bass @LukeFRC it looks great!! 😀
  11. So am I the corvette is one of my all time favourite bass shapes!! It was my plan all along to do my take on a corvette but I like the original body shape with the quirky arm carve 🤔
  12. I really like both shapes so I can't decide............. Or Both will be walnut veneered top but the corvette type shape will probably have a Sapele back Opinions please................ 😀
  13. @eude I was a bit nervous about trying the 6'er as I haven't got the biggest hands but it seems OK to play, I do struggle to get the B after about the 17th fret but I won't really need to be up that end very often!? My first ever bass was a Washburn 4 string I can't remember the model tho I think it might have been either a xb100 or xb200 in the early 90's I'm not sure about a matching headstock as yet I think after I veneer the body I'll have a look and see what I think? I leaning toward a walnut veneer (but I can't decide quarter sawn or burl) as I think the contrast would look really nice? Whatever I choose I'm going to just finish it with danish oil so it will be more of a satin finish 😀
  14. The more I play it the nicer it feels which surprised me as I've never picked up a sixer before!! I've been thinking about finishes and I thought something like this might look cool Wenge or Walnut veneered top but leave the arm carve and back natural (I think it's Alder??) 😀
  15. Yeah I didn't notice it when I looked at the body in black but I kinda like it 😀
  16. Well I've just taken delivery of my new 6 string! when I unpackaged it my immediate reaction was 'jeez that neck is huge!!' but I had a little noodle and it's surprisingly really comfortable to play!! My plan was to make a new body for it but looking at it closer the body shape is growing on me so I might strip the body first to see what kind of grain etc it's got then decide from then so it might end up looking a bit like this instead??
  17. I think the word you are looking for is 'Collet' which you can buy replacement ones for next to nothing but I'm with @Christine new bearings and a new collet would be a lot cheaper than a whole new router??
  18. Looking at the shine on them maybe you can polish a turd?!? 😀
  19. I only use 3 because I already had them as I'm a Carpenter by trade Trend are a good make and you can get parts for them really easily
  20. I use the Trend T10 which is 1/2" for the routing of the shape of the body's and a Trend T4 which is 1/4" and a Bosch Trim router for everything else...... 😀
  21. I agree it looks well made but it's proper ugly!!
  22. WTF is this all about!! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292904880000
  23. Thanks @MoonBassAlpha and @SpondonBassed for your opinions I think that I'll keep the shape of the pickguard the same, because the stripes aren't uniform so I didn't really want the pickguard to be uniform to the body kinda like the Adam Clayton sig pickguard but I'm thinking of doing a white one to contrast better with the body as I'm not sure about a pin strip for the same reasons as above 🤔
  24. I finally got round to refinishing this body and fitted the new electrics all that's left is to fit the block inlay decals when they arrive then it's completely finished! I think itooks a lot better in a satin finish 😀
  25. I've decided that I want to try and make a 6 string Wick Corvette (well my take on it anyway?) I've done a template by using my Quincy corvette copy to get the shape then increased the body width by 20mm to allow for the wider neck to keep the proportions the same...... I've just marked out roughly the bridge and neck pocket placement but I will use the original 6 string body as a template for exact sizes placement etc.... I've got some Sapele left over from a job that I might use but I'm thinking Ash would look a lot better if I decide to top it with the poplar burl of Golden Phoebe ?? I'm also considering a trans black finish?? 🤔
