  1. Whilst I'm waiting for the body blank to glue up I thought I'd have a look at finishes Left is tinted Danish oil and right is normal Danish oil I think I prefer the tinted one as it brings out the figuring of the grain better??........
  2. No it will probably be quite flat on the back apart from the belly carve, it's more the general shape I'm going for......
  3. This is what I'm thinking Oak and Sapele Top Back Either side of the oak on the top and bottom I'm going to try and do Ebony veneer lines. But I can't decide whether to do an Infinity or Streamer shape?? I'm swaying more towards the Infinity..........
  4. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and make a new body but more in the style of an Ifinity or Streamer as this body shape was very similar to my 5 string I've just done, I'm still going to use contrasting woods probably sapele and pine again or maybe sapele with Oak lines haven't quite decided yet?? Thanks for all the ideas everyone but I think whatever I do to it it's going to look pony!!...................
  5. I've tried to plug it and made up some filler using sapele dust and glue but you can still see the disc a bit its certainly not an invisible repair??
  6. I hope this doesn't sound stupid but if your going to go for fishtail style tuners what's stopping you leaving the original bushes in and use them as a reducer and then fitting the new ones thru them?? That's working on the assumption that the original bushes are 16mm internal size and the new tuners are 16mm nut size you might need to ease the hole a little bit with a 16-17mm metal drill bit?? But It might work?? I've got some of each of the tuners so I'll give it a try and let you know if it works...........
  7. I can't belive I didn't think of that!! 🙄 I'll give that a go tomorrow cheers!! 😁
  8. I was thinking that would be the only way to get over it but I didn't really wanted to go down that route as unless I get pine and sapele veneers it's going to look odd on the sides??.........
  9. Yeah I've just pink torpedoed the body to the highest level!! Hogging out the cavity needed to leave 5mm and had a momentary lapse of concentration and went a tad too deep!! 😱😠🤬😠🤬😠🤬😠 I can't think of a way to save it? I don't want a pickguard so I might have to remake the body completely!! 😭😭
  10. I ordered a new bass (£149 free p&p) last night that should be arriving on Thursday here's a pic and the spec I'll review it properly when it's arrived:
  11. Very nice!! 😎
  12. @Fionn If you regret buying it or don't want to pay to get it repaired I'd be interested in buying it off you for a reasonable price......... 😀
  13. It was only the top that got painted but I prefer it darker hence why I am using tinted Danish oil........ 😀
  14. I've managed to get some Danish oil on now, when I sanded the top it helped with the wobbly bridge so that now sits flush with the body so no need to recess it now......... The middle section on the back must be more open grained as the whole back was sanded to 320 grit but it's still a lot darker than the wings but I kinda like the difference.......... I also need to shape the back of the neck where it joints just to give it of a more attractive transition............ 😀
  15. I've spent most of the morning sanding down the body so I'll start Danish oiling it at lunchtime today hopefully that has sorted out the uneven patchy/darker bits and sanding marks.......... 😀
  16. Yeah it looked and felt OK when I sanded it to 240 but I think your right it needs a bit more maybe to 320 or even higher?? 🤔
  17. Here's a quick shot of the back 😀
  18. I've got a rosewood or a maple neck that I could use on this build so it's going to be out of them 2....... 😀
  19. Thanks mate I've got to admit the reaction I got on here did make me think I'm making a wrong decision!! I'm thinking would a rosewood board would look better on this instead of a maple?? Also I'm thinking of recessing the knobs slightly only 5-10mm tho?? 🤔
  20. I think I may have been a bit hasty in deciding to spray it so I've sanded it down and given it a couple of coats of tinted Danish oil, it will probably end up a bit darker by the time I've finished?? 😀
  21. I love that colour!! Shame about the pickguard tho!! 😁
  22. Yeah I know its a big change but it's was easier to paint it than to build a new body! But you never know I might change my mind and sand it down and stain it instead 😀 A slight change to the build I'm going to go active with the electrics (nothing special just a 2 band eq off ebay)

    New Body

On Warmouths website they are a saying a swamp ash P body is about 4lb 15oz
  24. Over the last couple of months I kept on looking at this body and really started to not like the way I'd done it so I decided it is going to be painted Black and I trimmed off a bit of the lower part of the offset waist which I think balances it better it doesn't look so bottom heavy now I'm going to turn my Orange Jazz into a 5 string so I'm going to use the old 4 string maple/maple block inlay neck off it for this build 😀
  25. It really depends on the species of pine, White Pine I agree would move and crack but the likes of Pitch Pine has the same characteristics as Oak or Yew, also Southern Yellow Pine is higher on the janka scale than Mahogany and Caribbean Heart Pine is higher than Black Walnut and Teak so unfortunately you can't really generalise when it comes to Pine 😀
