Here's the link to Mark King's studio with his trace preamps. There's 37 pics, in the right hand column theres a link to click through to the next pic https://www.patrickeden.co.uk/gallery-image/Level-42-Guaranteed-Recording-Sessions/G0000Bd.3zstM4U8/I0000JZAvBg41LXg -
Gibson Thunderbirds can be used in any band.. it has 2 pickups 1 in the bridge position and 1 in the neck position. So you can pretty much any sound, especially with a good outboard preamp. I've seen them used in Rock, metal & funk (Bootsy)

Hey Mike, I will definitely be there, I wouldn't want to miss Brooksy's Bass Corner live stream tonight at 8pm! -
Wow, such a great build. Did you commission and select the woods? What was the reason for selling the bass if you don't mind me asking?
-
A few more old pics from the status website...
-
If Status ever opened up their shop again, this is what i would order -
-
I haven't had any replies from Rob when enquiring about ordering a new S2 Classic bass... that could be a good sign, maybe they will make an announcement in the future... but could be he's just tired of replying to new build requests haha
-
Another jazz tune improv on the Jaydee, this time i set the bass on 70%, Mid on 100%, Treble on 5% , Tone rolled right off and back pick up selected... only thing with this setting is the bass is quite a bit quieter, probably would need a volume boost pedal if i was going to switch to this setting and then switch to a normal slap sound in a gig.

Another bass sample, this time with some slap and finger style bass playing... Controls are Bass: 60% Treble: 50% Pan: Middle for slap, back pickup for finger style

Anyone that's around this evening (Tuesday 7th March), Mike is back streaming now as of 8pm -
Early April fools .... [EDIT] Found this on ebay: Actually... Is this a genuine Jaydee Roadie 1 that has been 'modified'?
-
I just messaged him on Reverb and he says he bought it from a friend. Was a bit of a coincidence & yea the colour must have been different. Yep Swedish prices i guess
-
Jaydee on Reverb - Was this the same bass that was recently for sale on ebay for half the price? https://reverb.com/uk/item/66432109-jaydee-roadie-supernatural-1982

Absolutely! Looking forward to it Mike. Oh btw, what was the name & year of the Level 42 concert where Mark was playing that Status Matrix bass? cheers -
Fantastic live stream with Brooksy's Bass Corner - https://www.youtube.com/@BrooksysBassCorner Anyone who hasn't checked out Mike's channel, you might be in for a treat. We had a great chat about basses, Level 42 / Mark King & some of the many interviews Mike has done with famous bassists including Marcus Miller, Billy Sheenan etc...
-
Just checked out the Status website, are they back to - business as usual? Can't see any notices that regular orders are on hold?
-
Haha thank you, I feel the same way when i see other bassists... i just remember that i own these expensive instruments for my own reasons... when i was a full time musician many years ago my only bass was a second hand yamaha trb that cost £200 on ebay... now I am working in a 'proper' job i own a few expensive instruments that hardly get played.

I really like the classic Zoot body shape but on the front page of Zoot's websites, their is a fretless with quite deeply shaped contours. I prefer the original less shaped version, does Mike still make that shape?
-
Yes, thank you. It's really great to hear what other settings Jaydee owner's are using as i wasn't sure how much too boost the eq. My strings are 100-40, i know a lot of Jaydee players use 30-90..
-
I love this bass! I have had my eye on Zoot for a long time.... maybe i should give Mike a call
-
Another solo on the Jaydee, really does a great darker Jazz solo tone... I just put some new strings on, everything is turned up to 10 except the tone control is rolled right off and treble is at 40%
