  1. I recently sent my first bass to Europe to a fantastic buyer in Barcelona. I followed a number of the tips here (UPS were brilliant), Transferwise....if you enter your bank details with transferwise (which you may or may not want to do!) the buyer just needs your e-mail address. I was advised to ask for payment before agreeing to dispatch the bass. That means the buyer has got to be confident in the seller. Hopefully the basschat site gives some visibility as to the quality of the seller, but in the case of my recent sale, we reinforced the trust with a couple of video calls . The most frustrating thing was getting hold of a bike box. My local Halfords is usually happy to get rid of bike boxes, but not during Covid....Computer says no😠 However, you can buy bike boxes for next day delivery on't internet. It did cost me £16, but they are a really good resource to build a bomb package with
  2. I think I got the spanner with one of my Alembics (second hand mind). There must be a separate active secondary market in Ron Wickersham electronics diagrams
  3. And even better, hear what it sounds like!
  4. Not to hijack this thread or anything but that is the mighty Derek Trucks, now fronting the Tedeschi Trucks Band, isn't it? (I did start following them because of Tim Lefevre...now sadly departed)
  5. Is it sunny 😬
  6. Ok, so given the hot debate going on on 'Show us yer headstocks' about the cost of Alembics (which I feel a bit guilty about starting with an innocent ELP nurdy query)....this is a relatively reasonably priced 1996 Alembic, bought off an e-bay dealer and in my humble opinion sounds as good as a fretless Wal.
  7. Is that the most up-market wooden leg I've ever seen?
  8. I'd be interested in how you think it compares with your Wal in due course
  9. May I be curious and ask whether you acquired the Canadian ACG? It looks lovely 😍
  10. Can I just ask something as simple as what the string intervals were on his 8 strings and on Brit Bass'. Is there a reason you can get away with smaller tuning pegs (apart from neck dive) PS I really really don't have £30k, as much as I like Alembics (cheaper ones at least:) )
  11. Thanks for making that clear. I guess all power to basschat and proper price discovery (speaking as more a giver than a taker!)
  12. It's now dawned on me that Greg Lake owned more than one eight string Alembic. There's one with signs of the Zodiac and a second later one (which I think John Entwhistle ended up with) with pirate symbols. They both look like they had 8 full sized tuners. They must have weighed a ton.

  14. Curiously no one has mentioned Fender's alleged price fixing story in all of this
  15. Good looking bass and looks prretty good value too
  16. I can't help noticing there is a small part of Scotland with a large proportion of lefty bass players. No wonder Guitar Guitar in Glasgow got all those high end lefties in
  17. Having dipped into the discounted supply, I deliberately kept out of the dialogue on this until I had got used to the first set of strings fitted on my sunburst jazz. I have to say after a 'what is this' sort of start, I have really got into these strings. I am playing the advanced series 40-100 gauge and loving the tone. I play finger style through a vintage setup and it is the elephant's pajamas. Thanks for the intro!
  18. Dusty was also Ealing's other claim to fame (apart from the R&B Club). Her first job was working in Squires Music Shop next to the Town Hall

  20. I see what you mean about him being a Rush fan
  21. I'm still grinding through how to play the chorus of Peg in time, until I get to the sunny uplands of Josie
  22. You'll need one of those cameras they used to take school photos with soon....then you can take the bass on the left and put it on the right and see if anyone notices
  23. Dusty in Memphis is one of my favourite albums of all time
  24. This guy seems to be the biggest Steely Dan Bass fan in the world, and I've found watching his vids helpful
  25. And are we allowed to see the rest? Pleeeeese!
