No more Procrastination! (An interesting small valve head story)
Misowaki replied to Bridgehouse's topic in Amps and Cabs
As far as I'm aware, no official case exists. I guess they assume yo'll be buying the PF115HE? Found a pic that doesn't have the central strut the 210HE has so that probably answers my earlier question. Castle cases do what I assume you mean by a box case https://www.castlecases.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=183_26_76&product_id=1901 Cage is pretty sturdy on the head and I imagine case manufacturers would have some decent hard foam shaped around the protruding bits to keep it snug (any Swan cases I've had have done a pretty decent job of that kind of thing). Swan have asked for the exact dimensions because of its weird shape so it seems they're taking that into account. -

Just an FYI for anyone considering the PF 20/50T: if you have a fliptop cab (specifically the 210HE at least), the head won't fit inside the cab so you'l need a case for it (got a quote from Swan for about £106). I don't know if they changed this with the newer cabs? Would've thought that given it's modelled on the B15 they would have made it so the tube head can fit inside the cab 🤷♂️ Maybe it's different with the 115? Also, annoyingly, the PF20T won't sit atop the 210HE because of the handle... so it's either flip the lid and put PF20 on PF500 or just use the 115. Or actually... if you have a detachable lid case, flip that and put head on top of that. That should work, I hope. -

No more Procrastination! (An interesting small valve head story)

Dunno mate, I cranked mine and the volume peaked at about 2 o'clock but no crackle. Through both my cabs (remember to flick the ohms switch, kids!) with volume and gain at about 1 O'clock it was brown-sound worthy. Not for volume per se but richness. Like the learned wisdom of one who has lived 'it' vs the brash power of the one who believes 'it' can be bought about by sexy force (the PF-500). Reading that back I'm not sure that makes much sense but I'm sticking by it... -

It can get pretty loud through both my cabs too, not quite comparable to the PF-500 but holy feckballs, if it doesn't sound delightful! I'm thinking about the potential of using it as a preamp for the PF-500 🤔 -

Glad it's getting sorted. Mine arrived today and have to say, it's perfect! Reached straight for that '74 P w/ flats, instant joy! Happy New Tube Amp Day to us all! -

Sage advice. Same here =D I hear you but maybe you can blag a bigger discount or an extra set of tubes which will save you money down the line? Or maybe I'm just too much of an opportunist and need to stop trying to work every angle haha But that said, if it were mine and I didn't try reseat the tube and sent it back losing £15 for the pleasure to find out that's all it was, I'd be kicking myself. I'd probably make a video of the fault, when they inevitably suggest reseating, tell them I'm not comfortable doing it because the manual says get a qualified tech to do it (bonus point!) "and I don't want to void any warranty or ruin anything by attempting reseating, but I don't want to return it so I'm in a pickle here..." Surely they'd send some new tubes quick sharp because they'd rather that than deal with a return... or maybe this is just the point where my mind does the GAS equivalent of the infamous "I'm here to fix your pipes" blue movie scene... -

Hmm... I'm no expert but that definitely sounds like tubes to me. Scratchy with no volume gain would suggest something going on with the power amp tube, no? Maybe they can send you some new tubes first on the guarantee that they will accept the return if it doesn't fix the issue? -

Fair enough, man. Well mine's coming tomorrow so I guess I'll let you know how I get on with it too. Fingers crossed, eh? -

They've got 9.8 on Trustpilot out of 945 reviews, could be an honest mistake. -

Mine's arriving tomorrow too! Wow, such excite! Although I have this niggling thing of "ooohhhhhhhh, should I have gone for the 50?!?!" 😖😖 -
Great sounding amp for its size. At low volume I prefer the tone of this to my PF-500. Have used at rehearsal in a band with three guitars and keys before (kinda Alt-Americana though, more Wilco than Sonic Youth) and it held up. Good as a monitor if you're hooking it up to a PA for larger gigs, perfect for smaller gigs, pubs with noise limiters etc. Tiny split in head handle (pictured) but only a surface split. Handle still intact. Trials welcome, I'm in Walton On Thames.

Neither did I. And yet here we are again... Must be a slippery button because it almost happened to me too... But I've got a PF-500 already and an SCR-DI so figured the features lacking in the PF-20T can be accounted for elsewhere, right? Or should I order a PF-50T too... -
They were my favourite band as a kid for the first 2 albums, 3rd I prefer now I'm older but beyond that, yeah, safer than a high vis jacket in the popemobile. Dave Grohl though, love him. Have all the time in the world for him. And for those saying about boring basslines, check out some of Nate Mendel's earlier work with Sunny Day Real Estate and Juno (album A Future Lived In Past Tense). I respect them immensely for who they are and where they came from and what they meant to me as a kid.

Good for a cheap project, came with a crappy Squier I bought. Collection or postage gets both. Sorry the pic is upside down 😃

Man, all you weirdos that held on to your guitars and didn't sell them on to fund your GAS... what's wrong with you all? How can you have so much self control and where can I get some? And you'll never know the bittersweet pang of regret when you sell something and only realise what a fool you are years later. Or sometimes an hour later. Or sometimes as you're receiving the cash...

I was looking at one of those last night! Well, what I think you might be talking about (links don't show anything, hollow body?). Never heard of them til then! Any good? Also; unnamed walnutish P bass, maybe a Kay, definitely weighted more than the guilt I felt for selling it to a mate. Probably did her a favour though because it made her stop being cheap and buy something a little more usable shortly after =D

Yeah, I have also left stuff in the car tbh but only ever in my drive way with bits out of sight and the boot backed up like you say. But I also live in the burbs. But I teach from my house so people can hear bass and drums so I'm an obvious target...

😖 Is that what they mean by thick as thieves? Maybe he just needed a hard case though...
