    The nice thing about all that real estate behind the bridge is that you can add a Bigsby and it will still look bang on.

    Just had a quick gander at replacement pickups for these, in case the the supplied ones are crap. It looks like Delano and Haussel do them (the Lawrence ones don't look like they're produced anymore). The Haussels are just over £300 for a set from Public Peace (don't know if that includes shipping) and the Delano from the US are about £270, but would incur taxes. Still cheaper than the Fender original, even if you replace the tuners for Hipshots and include a D Tuner too. If this is anywhere decently put together, it could be a great modding platform.

    It did look tasty in sunburstWhen I saw him with Robben Ford at the Jazz café, he a a 4 and a 5 string, both candy apple red (IIRC), I preferred the tone of the 4 string. Also seen him with a Shoreline Gold fiver. I’ve only just noticed that the Soloking doesn’t have a drop D tuner, so not quite an exact tribute in that respect.

    IIRC black was never an option with Fender for the RBs, therefore, blue all the way, just to keep it honest to the original .

    Mine was absolutely fine and I’m a lightweight zealot. Should have listened to the shop assistant and not traded it in. It was the neck profile that was always the bugbear for me.

    I think to be a bassist’s bassist, the candidates should be session musicians at the very least not the person fronting the band that they’re in, or solo musicians, which removes McCartney, Lee, King, Claypool, Graham and Clarke, at the very least. I see your can of worms and drop the above grenade in the room.
