1. He implys its been refinished (that good ol crackly finish not to everyones taste)
The controls dont tie in with the serial number - thats a mark 1 control plate with the coil tap(?) switch but its an 80s serial number
It is a high BIN but not as bad as Musicgrounds £1000 for an 8 string

2. The pic u have put up is of an Overwater C bass ( that actual pic is from a shop called
Oasis Music' website and that bass was allegedly built for Andrew Bodnar of the Thompson Twins, it sold for 1.5K )

If ur seller has a C bass ( it should say so on the headstock ) it effectively has a different tuning from normal -The low E is a C but cant remember wot the rest of the tuning is.

If its in good condition grab it!
I'm really interrested to hear some elaboration of these statements, its just that these days it seems like a lot of bassists just shoot down any and all solo bass artists from the hip. Obviously its not always the case but whenever I see stuff like 'technical, no feeling, elavator music' etc. with no justification thats how it comes across to me, and it kind of irks me when every single thread related to solo bass goes down the exact same road with these 'one shot' "I don't like solo bass." posts. Personally I think that Manrings feel and emotion in his playing is incredible, I get more feeling out of his melodies than I do from 95/100 'professional' vocalists.

Everyones entitled to their opinion, but a little elaboration would make it a lot more interresting.

What can i say? I find this sort of playing mildly entertaining, even interesting, I even have a Stu Hamm CD somewhere!
As far as feeling and emotion goes that all sits with being in the 'groove' within a structured piece of music.
I love the bass but the fact that it is partially percussive I dont think some of the stuff these guys play is relevant to the instrument.

6.
And I can assure you, my friend and 2nd guitarist did just that and it cut his little finger quite bad.
The stiffness afterwards rendered it not only painful but unusable and thus, chords almost a no-no.

Yep cool...But not as much as Bill Clements.
This guy is one of my inspirations and he plays...with ONE HAND!
He lost his other in a car accident and it only took him 6 months to get back to playing again. :)
And he's BLOODY FAST!!!

....And let's have a big hand for.........oh crap!

I am really.really sorry but I had to say it.

7. I have real trouble with' bassplayers bassplayers', so to speak.
The notion of the bass as a truly solo instrument doesn't work for me.
Although some players have to really push the envelope so new techniques etc are discovered but apart from that.

Mebbe I'm just an old fashioned bump, bump, debump, bump bump guy :)

8.
Damn, that's a pretty good one. Mind if I ask why not?
I bottled it, basically. The gig went to John Giblin (Peter Gabriels bass player in absence of Tony Levin ) so the bar was set rather high - wouldn't have had a sno'balls..........

9. Did a gig on an oil-rig once, the tottie was hopeless!
Anyhoo all the doors aboard were watertight, big heavy fekkers and I closed one while me right hand thumb was in the hinge side seal - no pain so far but wondered why the door wasn't closing properly so gave it a mighty pull and :)
thumb exploded and went up like a balloon and I fainted (big Jessie!.) Didn't slap then but had to quickly develop the G. Lee floating right hand technique.
Also hospitalised thru electrocution at a gig before a note was played.

10.
I was operating a table saw on the day of a gig at JB's in Dudley.

The moment I thought "I hope I don't cut my finger" I managed to push the ring finger of my right hand into the blade. Cut a nice groove right down to the bone!

They couldn't really stitch it because too much flesh was missing so they just wrapped it up. I made the casualty nurse put as small a bandage on as she could manage and carried on with the gig that night. Being mainly a two finger player everything was fine until we got to the one song that I used three fingers for. I didn't react until it was too late and did a nice little run culminating in plucking the d string with my bad finger.

Pain. Blood. And worse of all, a horribly muffled note that ruined the fill!

:D
:)  It hurts just reading that!!!!

12. i have effectively 'retired' from gigging and music in general - scratched a living for years from a functions/showband - but I think i have bought more basses since I stopped playing! And now looking at a nice JD Roadie on eBay!!!

Feel I should be termed a collector rather than a player :) although I am toying with getting rid of them all for one nice vintage precision as i dont really have the room.

GAS, for want of a better word, is good (apologies to GG )
