wow! Aren't these usually about a grand?? Pity about the pick up only.
BB -
Sorry holding on to that one - it's as light as a feather and will do me when my back packs in completely and cant manage me 81 overwater original
I have been v lucky with my basses - from the list below
Warwick dolphin NT £999 NEW with full flight case from when sound control was going tits up!
1979 WAL Pro1 £600 with original case also Sound control (this was only about 18months ago) they had had it 6 months with no takers and were fed up looking at it!
Status t-bass mint with tags apart fron one score on the scratch plate £250!!! S/H music store!!
I no longer have my ultimate bargain - wait for it - A Steinberger XL2 bass which cost me £250 from a legit music store in East Kilbride - Guy said he had never heard of them but didnt say where he got it and believe it or not i let it go years later for the same money!!!!!
BB -
I believe 200/250 to be an ok price - MusicYo and Sound Control both went t*ts up over the same period and a lot of good stuff was being sold at really really low prices for clearance and administration purposes.
If the first Toby bass in your thread is neck thru then it is definitely worth it.
The other one may not be an USA model after all as he says it has an upgrade to EMGs but from what ? All USA made Tobias had Bartolinis.
The current bible lists Korean Tobys in excellent condition as worth $500 - 650.

Snooping round t'intenet the pick-ups are likely to be mighty mite DX5s normally found on Ibanez basses and some people feel they dont have enough power out of them,
If it is a lefty ur after, there is an American one on ebay at the moment but obviously not in the same price range £500- but no-one has bid on it with less than a day to go so if it fails to sell contact the seller and try to make a deal if ur budget allows.
The US built ones are definitely worth it
BB -
I think they are the same as American Tobias but assembled in Asia somewhere and are quite respectable - The necks on American ones are superb (they have an assymetrical profile) but i think these ones ( called a Toby to indicate non USA )
dont have the mega pickups (Bartolini possibly????)of the stateside ones but should have the nice neck.
S/H £200-250 would be reasonable.

I got a mint Perception deluxe 4 stringer from eBay last year - I was the only person who bid and paid £500 inc case.
I am sure I could hear the guy crying!

That is a total bummer of a story and soory to hear you had such a hassle!
I have never (touch wood) had any bother with eBay/Paypal but am reluctant to use it now as I feel my time is due - luckily i use a little independent music shop in Glasgow to sell any gear for me on commission - I just tell them what I'd be happy making out of it and let them get on with it.
I find buying and selling on eBay can be quite stressful even if things are going ok - it only takes one prick to ruin your day.
Hope it all turns ok

talking of strap-on extensions ( am I on the right website?????) Steinberger XLs? No cut aways at all!!!!
Fancy a Steinberger XL-2???
Are you considering letting your Steinberger go??
BB -
Nice bass! It is really a fretted one i am after though - but this is the second steiny XL i have seen with a chipped faceplate.
Do you ( or anyone else ) know if the chip be repaired satisfactorily(?)
I think Ed Roman can supply NOS replacements but they are $400.
I have had three steinbergers in the past and, for various regrettable reasons, let them go
Best of luck with the sale

I thought Hipsway were great! Did they not evolve into what is now Texas??

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! Now officially freaked out by this thread!!!!! -
That is pretty cool! Reminds me of a Dan Armstrong!
BB -
they have ran this promotion every month for the past few months (usually the first weekend) and there certainly seems bargains there but when I went to buy a white jazz 62RI for £900 less another 10% it didnt exist!!
cant complain tho, in the dying throes of sound control they sold me a new Warwick Dolphin NT (with full flightcase) for £999.
BB -
That's the one! C'est magnifique!

All Hail and Welcome to a fellow Scot!

BB -

BB -

I would need the steak for the black-eye the wife would give me if she caught me paying this kind of money for a bass!
But only if she caught me...........!
BB -
'Alright now' was the toon that made me want to be a bass player - used to sneak in and pose with my big bruvvers red precision and 'play' along(if he knew I had touched it he would have killed me)
Anyone know whos's in the reformed Bad Company?

would u trade it for one of my livers? I can get by on only one.....
I dont know sh*t from Shinola when it comes to vintage basses (especially Fenders) like this but even i felt this one was right but wanted to know what the troops thought.
Have always put off buying a nice vintage P for fear of getting burned

.....I can hear the creaking sound of a hastily built gallows..........
Nah! Only kidding. Never found any bass mag interesting enough to buy on a regular basis. Just cos some cat can lay down a serious groove dont mean they have anything interesting to say daddio.
Mike Watt should be up for the cool guy award on the other thread.
