1.
I'm amazed ( and annoyed, was hoping to pick it up cheap!) at how much this fetched, as a non-'name' piece of japcrap - especially as prices seem to be coming down a bit just now. It's probably worth it though, I have Westbury g****r and it's excellent by any standards. Pluck
You weren't the only one hoping to pick it up cheap. I was gobsmaked when i saw how much it went for. Used to have one myself, circa 1980: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=31173 Cheers, Jake M

 5.
Don't really need one at all ! Anything thin enough and metallic should do the job, i've used a screwdriver in the past. See this pic courtesy of google:
Indeed, but for once in my life i wanted to avoid bodging it.
 6. Quick question. Am i right in assuming i need an 1/8" hex key for a 2004 Stingray truss rod? Cheers, Jake M
 7.
I took my recently refurbed 75 4000 to practice yesterday. Wow, I'd forgotten what it sounded like loud. I think I need to lower the pickup the signal was so strong. And what an agressive almost distorted sound. I could barely calm the beast down. It cut through like a knife. Promise to gets pics up soon as I can.
Cool. Actually, now you mention it mine's a bit on the quiet side, so i should maybe raise the pickup somewhat. I reckon it could do with a bit of a refurb too after 35 years. It's on my list. Looking forward to seeing some pics, not many of them around anymore. What colour is it?
 8.
f***ed if I know - Xmas do - I'm pissed etc :
Fair enough mate. Enjoy.
 9.
Rics really r rediculously radical - really
What do you mean?
 10.
Wish you'd shown me this when we met, mate - I might have nicked it, dog permitting! I'm not normally a Rick man but this might be an exception... M
My dog's trained to viciously attack anyone who comes within ten feet of my bass collection, including me unfortunately. Seriously though mate, if ever you're around this way again, drop in...
 11.
Get this to the Porn section!
I was new to Basschat when i first posted this thread. I didn't even realise there was a "gear porn" section at the time. However, i did subsequently realise the heinous nature of the crime i'd unintentionally committed, and as a consequence i can now barely endure the terrible burden of shame. Mods, by all means move this thread to the correct forum...
 12. If anyone's interested in having a listen to the old girl in action, go to http://www.myspace.com/sweartogether and listen to New Age/Wild Beauty. Hopefully it's loud enough in the mix to give a good idea. I'm going through a Hiwatt 100 head. The other tracks were played on a Precision. Cheers, Jake M
 13.
*edit* and wtf are you up at 4.23am?! lol!
I was playing my new Stingray of course!
 14. I was watching this on eBay. So it was you who got it was it? Been waiting for one of these to come up. I'm wanting a four string, or i'd have been bidding against you. How does is sound? Cheers, Jake M
 15.
I've always been puzzled as to what good a lock on a instrument case is. I supose that it prevents accidental opening in transit, but if someones wants to steal the guitar they'd surely just take the case as well?
Well, i see the lock on a guitar case as being there to stop certain people from getting into it, not to stop the thing itself from being nicked. Have you ever walked into a shared dressing room to find a complete stranger playing your guitar for example? Always better safe than sorry i reckon.
 16. Now this is what i call a selection of pickguards: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/ Anyone bought from here?
 17.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=248 Have a look through this sticky for your spares You should be able to find something
Cheers, hadn't noticed this one before.
 18. I've just aquired my first Stingray from a fellow Basschatter. Always wanted one, finally got around to it. Hurrah! Just a couple of quick questions: Where can i get original Musicman parts, in this case a black scratchplate? If not, what about ready-made custom stuff? Also, i'm without a key for the case, so does anyone know if they're universal fit? If they are, would anybody out there be prepared to lend me one to get a copy made, if indeed a copy can be made of this type of key. Cheers, Jake M
 19. Traded a Gibson Les Paul for a Musicman Stingray. Nice chap, straightforward trade, and delivered right to my front door! All good and recommended. Cheers, Jake M
 20. Now traded for a very nice, as new Stingray. Thanks to Mickeyboro. Cheers, Jake M
 21.
Trade for my musicman SUB bass?
Cheers, but i'll be looking for a Stingray or Sterling.
 22.
How much do you think "similar value" is? I'm no expert on Gibson used values I'm afraid
Seems to sell for around £1300-£1500 new at the moment. Cheers, Jake M
 23. For possible trade is my Gibson Les Paul Classic, owned from new around 2001. All standard, honeyburst finish, immaculate, hardly played. Comes with original Gibson hard case. Also worth mentioning i reckon is that it was recently setup by JayDee himself. Played like a shed before, very low action now. The specs are here: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/...Honey-Burst/6XP Trade for Musicman, Rickenbacker, Status, Steinberger. Four string fretted basses only please. Please note, i'll only trade for an instrument of similar value and in excellent condition, with original hard case included. Sorry, no shipping, i'd prefer to exchange in person. I don't drive so we'll have to work something out there. I live in Birmingham. Just so you know from the get-go. A pic or two will follow shortly if there's any interest... Cheers, Jake M
 24.
It is feasible that someone is fastidious about looking after their gear... the assertion that if it's been played for 20 years then it has to look like crap (sorry, I mean "have heaps of mojo") seems short sighted to me.
+1 to that. I always find it odd when people seem to think that just because a guitar's old it HAS to be battered and bruised almost beyond recognition, otherwise it couldn't possibly be authentic, or if it is it must be crap and hence it's never been played. I own an all original '74 Rickenbacker 4000. Thirty five years old and i've owned it myself for getting on for twenty five of them. It was my only bass and was played daily and rehearsed week in week out for many years, it's been around the world several times, played on albums, you name it, and it's hardly got a mark on it. In other words, i looked after it. Sometimes people do. Cheers, Jake M
