2.
You and me both, Old Son. Welcome. Discharge-yes, I remember them-had a mate who was quite well into you guys. About to make my annual pilgrimage to see The Stranglers at Exeter next month-can't wait.
Lost interest myself after Hugh departed. Saw them a couple of times with Paul Roberts, but it just made me sad, as did all the recorded output. Thought NORFOLK COAST was good though. I reckon they'll be much better with Baz Warne. Probably going to see them in Birmingham myself. Either them or SLF in Bilston, can't afford both. :-( Cheers, Jake M
 3.
I think I remember that name, did you support any major bands?
We only did headlining during my time. I know there were some major supports earlier on, but couldn't tell you who. I discovered after we split that there was stuff in the pipeline that would've made us. A lot of the big metal bands of the era were claiming Discharge as an influence, and wanted us to support. Only the other day Lars Ulrich was saying on The Culture Show that Discharge and GBH were two of their biggest influences. Nobody bothered to tell us what deals were being made behind the scenes at the time. Why would they, we were only the band. Talk of "long term strategy" and "territory" etc. The usual thing, all bollocks and we got shafted in the end. Anyway, if i sound bitter i bloody was at the time, but its all ancient history now. Cheers, Jake M
 4.
Welcome Jake, there's a few of us on this site who also play in punk bands and, as you've seen, there's tons of knowledge and humour and an active trade in gear (the legal gear that is:)). Just wondered, do you get royalties from Metallica for their cover of Discharge's "Free speech for the dumb"? Now that would be cool!
I wish. I'm "the other" bass player. I wasn't in the original line-up so i'm not on the writing credits for the songs Metallica covered unfortunately. I was in the band '89 - '94 approx. The original members received a pretty penny at the time. In fact, they were pretty cagey and wouldn't divulge, but i know it was substantial. Probably still is. Cheers, Jake M
 5. Hello all, I've been kicking around on this forum for a couple of weeks now, and it seems more civilised than most, so i'm happy to say i'll be sticking around a while longer. The name's Jake, aged 43. Its been thirty years since i first picked up a bass guitar, inspired primarily and still by JJ Burnel of The Stranglers. I used to played in punk band Discharge amongst many others, and i'm just attempting a return to live playing after 15 years in the wilderness. Couldn't get arrested if i tried. :-) http://www.myspace.com/sweartogether I'm usually to be found playing a '74 Rickenbacker 4000 very loudly through an old Hiwatt, or hanging around the basses for sale board desperately trying to swap my G&L L-1505 five string for something with four. My sound was once compared to "a JCB falling off a cliff onto a fat bird". Funnily enough, that was exactly the sound i was going for. :-) Cheers, Jake M
 6. Sorry, i've now changed my mind about selling for cash. I'm still up for trading though, and i've amended my original post. Thanks for all the interest shown so far, keep it coming! :-) Cheers, Jake M
 7.
We know what they're worth. That's all that really matters.
Nice one. I notice we've got a few favourite players in common, like Burnel, Entwistle, Foxton, Lemmy, Wobble. Thought i was the only one to notice Lee Gorman at the time. Didn't even know a bass could be played that fast back then. :-)
 8.
In terms of worth I'd have said around £750 before you mentioned the accident. Unfortunately they're not very popular which hinders their value. However to all those who want a great Ric for minimum expenditure, go and get one!
To be honest, i only mentioned the accident for the sake of a good anecdote. It was as good as new after JayDee finished with it. Still in excellent condition overall for a 35 year old instrument, hardly a mark on it. Its all just part of its "character" now. :-)
 9. Thought people might be interested to see a pic of my '74 Rick 4000. All original and still in good nick after 35 years. I've owned it myself since about '85. Its been around the world, its played on albums, and its been ignored in favour of a sequencer for years on end, to my shame. Years ago i took it to a rehearsal on my motorbike in a gigbag strapped to my back, until the strap snapped one day. Luckily there was nothing behind me to run over it, but it was left with machine heads hanging off, splintered wood and dents to the body. Satisfactorily patched up by JayDee in Birmingham though. You'd never tell. :-) Its short on bottom end to say the least, but played through an old valve amp (Hiwatt in my case) it'll give you the dirtiest "Lemmy" sound on the planet, at least the way i play it. In a house fire i'd save this before my wife and dog. Not really, but it'd be a close call. :-) What do we think of it? Never for sale, but out of curiosity (as they say) what do we reckon its worth? Cheers, Jake M.
 10. How about my G&L L-1505 for trade? Its not one of the cheaper Tribute range. Black in colour, rosewood fretboard, active, immaculate. Have a look at my post with a pic here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27940
 11. One pic now up. Best i can do for now. Cheers, Jake M
 12.
Damn, if only my jazz had frets....
Cheers Mart. Well, if this turns out to be the only offer i may well be up for it. I don't play the G&L at all as i said, because no matter how i try i cannot get into five strings. Its just such a waste of a good bass. A four string fretless though i'd play for sure. Give it a week or two, see if any other offers come in.
 13. G&L L-1505 5 string active for swap only. Hardly played since new (2000), hence immaculate. Black in colour, rosewood fretboard. Comes with original G&L hard case, good cond. See G&L's website for all the details: http://www.glguitars.com/ I'd love this bass if it didn't have five strings. Actually, i do love it, but five strings just aren't for me. Looking for a straight swap for something comparable with four strings. Make me an offer. No haggling please, i've got no money and nothing to barter with. :-) I've played it so little i never even got it set-up, and its still "as new" in that respect. In other words it isn't set-up at all, still has a couple of "straight out of the case" fret rattles. Also, the input crackles with certain leads only, again from new. Don't think its a fault, it just needs a good quality sturdy lead. An L-1500 four string or an MIA precision would be great, but anything considered. It doesn't have to be immaculate, depends what it is. I'm more interested in getting something i'm actually going to play. I'm liking headless at the moment. Birmingham/West Mids area. Cheers, Jake M
