  1. Brilliant. Comedic worship lyrics could be a thread within a thread here. One of my favourites was in the old days of acetates & OHPs, when on one song the word ‘desert’ was wrongly spelled as ‘dessert’. But my all time favourite is in Everlasting God, the line “You’re the defender of the weak”, which sounds more like something you’d hear on Match Of The Day
  2. Thanks for the input. When I saw the price, condition & bridge upgrade, I didn’t hesitate. Otherwise I’d have asked about the weight. Its my first SS, so I guess it’s for trying that aspect out more than anything else. The JMJ Mustang seems popular. I’m not crazy about roadworn stuff and I’ve heard the neck is quite chunky. If they had a slimmer neck and a standard gloss finish I bet I’d love to try one. Actually I don’t mind the matt black, just not sure about the fake wear. If I find I like SS, I wouldn’t rule out trying a Mustang, especially if I was to go all in and sell my only long scale bass
  3. Following up on my short scale curiosity from a couple of months ago, I couldn't hold off any longer. Well, actually I've not been looking actively every day, but happened to do an eBay search on Sat and there was a Squier VM Jaguar SS in silver. It looks to be in excellent condition and has an upgraded Babicz black bridge. A quick search reveals the bridge alone sells for around 120, so I think 240 was a fair asking price. I am really excited about trying this out. There is a big fan club for these on Talkbass, and I read 100 pages of the current one since buying this! Interesting findings going through that topic. It seems that the weight of these massively varies, as does the neck dive, with some players saying it didn't dive at all, and some saying it was nothing that lightweight tuners didn't sort out. Nobody seemed to get bad neck dive with them. Perhaps I should have asked the seller about the weight, but at that price I'm not losing any sleep over it. Other common thoughts are that the P pickup is generally decent, but the J (bridge) one is a bit weak, with some leaving it as stock, some just replacing the J one, and others replacing the whole lot. All manner of opinions on strings, I've only ever used rounds so will stick to those. Most said that going to a heavier gauge than stock (40-95) improved the string tension and took any floppiness out of especially the E string. There's also something called a 'magnet mod' on there which is said to improve the J output. Anyone a fan of the VM Jaguars? They don't seem to get much love in this topic. I'd be interested in gig bag (and maybe hard case) options for these that I can get easily in the UK. I've seen that PMT to a 'Tourtech' gig bag for 30 quid. I've ordered some black pickguard screws as this seems a popular and cheap mod, and a set of short scale D'Addario XL Nickel Wounds in Medium (50-105) to start off with. I will see how it goes, for pickup sets (if needed), the EMG Geezer PJ & DiMarzio DP126 blacks look popular, as do Hipshot Ultralite black tuners. Cool that it already has an upgraded bridge. By all accounts it sounds like a really fun and playable bass, with nice mod options. It's killing a few birds with one stone too - I've always fancied trying a Jagaur, recently wanted to try a shorty, haven't played a thinner Jazz style neck for a few years, and hopefully it will be lighter than a P bass. I can't say I've ever particularly wanted to try a P/J combination, but I get the chance to do that now too. I wasn't sure about the silver / black colour at first, but I believe it''s better in person than on pics, and the industrial look will be a change, as I've never had a bass this colour before. I'm trying not to get too excited in case SS doesn't work for me, but I can't help it! The thought of a shorter, lighter bass does appeal to me. Fun times!
  4. Thanks for the advice everyone. I may try the scouring pad / wire wool thing on the back of the neck, or get a guitar pro to do it. The vid states that you don’t need to oil it after unless you’ve taken it down to the bare wood. So if I don’t want it down to bare wood is it just the Scotchbrite pad, or do I still do the wire wool thing? When I said about getting used to the gloss finish, I meant on the fretboard itself too, not just the back of the neck. I guess I’ll adjust to it in time. It’s a killer bass though.
  5. I’ll take a look but prefer to stick with Fender
  6. I’ve read that this is an option. I’d be terrified doing anything like that, I’d have to take it to a guitar pro for something like that. Would de-glossing affect resale value if I ever move it on?
  7. Thanks. May do if one ever comes up on here. I know the 2013-16 are lighter. Otherwise is there any difference at all from the 2008-12 models apart from having CS62s as stock? Do the necks feel exactly the same?
  8. Just a quick one. Recently sold a red 2004 USA Series P with a lovely satin neck. Fancied a change of colour & some upgrades, and having wanted a black P for sometime I got a 2008 USA P with CS62 pickups & KioGon wiring loom fitted by Lozz (thanks!) of this parish. Hi mass vintage bridge & lightweight tuners were improvements over what I had. It’s a great bass and sounds great which is the main thing. I do miss the satin neck finish of my older Bass though. I ran both basses through Fender’s serial number check and bizarrely the 2008 doesn’t show the neck finish, but does show ‘Neck shape: Modern C’ twice on consecutive rows. I guess this was a mistake and they should have shown neck finish on one of those rows. The 2004 does state ‘Neck finish: Satin urethane’. Have all USA P basses come with gloss necks from 2008 onwards? Are there satin options amongst the 2013-16 models? I love this bass but not sure I can get used to the gloss neck. Tempted to get an American Special to go back to a satin neck (also slimmer neck, and lighter, slimmer body) to use as a mod platform. I figure the neck is pretty important so I could upgrade bridge, pickups, tone circuitry (if needed), tuners etc on an American Special to get it near to the level of a USA standard, just without the rolled fretboard edges (I am guessing the American Specials didn’t have those, can anyone confirm?). Also those models are hard to come by anyway. I have a wanted ad out for one so will just have to play the waiting game. I am a one bass man, but I love the thought of a slimmer P satin neck, and a bit less weight overall. Mine comes in at 4.2 Kg / 9.2 lbs, and I believe the 2013-16 models are lighter (but still have gloss necks?) Thanks
  9. That’s the first time I’ve seen the SS Ray in Black / Maple / Tort. Looks real nice but I’m still not a fan of the huge ugly silver banana control plate
  10. Bought a lovely Fender Precision mint pickguard from Danny. Received quickly, well packed and as described. Thanks!
  11. We have lost way more people from the team than have joined in the last few years. The same core of people have been there all along, it is of course best where possible to have a good rotation where people don’t feel like they’re playing every single week and getting burnt out. In a church of say 250-300 on a Sunday, I find it hard to believe that only one person can play drums. On an electronic kit which is like a glorified kids toy. Don’t get me started on that.
  12. I know I’ve said I’m not crazy about the Mustang look, but this does look really cool with the black plate. Black screws would effectively hide those mini pickups nicely. I wish standard black was an option in the current lineup, as the roadworn / relic thing is not everyone’s bag. But yeah the black on black on rosewood looks great here
  13. Eldon bought my Fender P bass, offered great comms throughout, paid up when asked, what more could I ask? Credit to the site, deal with confidence!
  14. Just bought a Darkglass VMT pedal from John. Arrived quickly, well packed and as described. Deal with confidence!
  15. Dunc bought a Truetone One Spot pack from me. Paid up quickly & was great throughout. Deal with confidence
  16. Can you please buy it before I change my mind? 😃
  17. For sale, EHX Bass Clone chorus pedal, with all original packaging & manual. Great condition with just a couple of tiny scratches on the top as per photos. A great chorus for the money, selling to fund other purchases and after realising chorus is not my bag. No velcro, feet still attached. £35 posted. Grab a bargain!
  18. Thanks for the confirmation. From memory I did check it years ago against the colour scheme chart of the time, but couldn’t remember for sure
  19. Thanks. Someone please buy it before I change my mind!
  20. ** Further price drop now £800** For reluctant sale at £800 as I have loved owning this: Fender MIA / USA Precision Bass, from Corona, California, 2004/5, with hard case. Long scale 34 inch. I think the colour is Chrome Red but open to correction on this. Usual USA made refinements: rolled fretboard edges, string thru' bridge, graphite reinforcing rod thru neck. It has the S1 switch which gives you more tonal options (I know not everyone likes this button, the knob can easily be replaced by a standard pot if you wish, or simply don't push the button in!). Satin finish maple neck, which was cleaned with Dunlop 65 spray cleaner on recent string change. Strings are Rotosound RS66LDN nickel plated roundwound in 45-105 and the bass has barely been played since they went on. I have owned this bass for 6-7 years, looked after it and kept it in the hardcase at all times when not being played. It has not been heavily gigged, and mostly played at home (smoke free). I love this bass but recently got a USA Black P, which I've wanted for ages as a black P copy was the first bass I owned. I don't need both, hence the sale. This bass deserves a great home and the buyer will not be disappointed. As far as I know, the pickups, tuners, bridge, etc, are all standard. I have not had any of these changed myself. It comes with the excellent Fender shaped hard case to which there are no keys. Case in good used condition with some wear on the hinge clips. There is very little in terms of paperwork. I haven't owned it from new, so can only pass on what came with it - that is, a sheet from Fender explaining the use of the S1 switch, and a blank Fender registration card. There is no truss rod tool, allen keys or Fender manual / inspection tag. The bass is fitted with a WD music all black plate with black screws. I will also include a generic 3 ply Black / White / Black plate with no truss rod cutout. The bass itself is in fantastic condition for the age. There is barely a mark on it in terms of knocks / dings, and no paint removed anywhere from the lovely nice smooth finish. I have run my hand all over it and only found one small knock, 4mm long, along the top of the body as you look down from playing position. It is not deep and is pictured next to a 5p coin so you can see how small it is. The only other blemishes are the usual minor belt scratches on the back of the body and some light scratches / swirl marks on the front, mostly between the topline and start of the plate as you stand over the bass (near where the neck meets the body). These are only noticeable up close, have never bothered me and are actually quite hard to photograph without just getting glare off the body. There is some light scratching on the plate and further down the body where the plate curves round at the knobs. Again, nothing major. The width at the nut is 41mm. I can get back with any weight enquiries as I don't have a reliable way of measuring this, but can easily go out and get some digital luggage scales if needed. It doesn't seem overly heavy to me, but I guess I'm used to it, and it is well balanced. The neck feels lovely and it is a delight to play. Please note I am not interested in posting this anywhere, I've heard too may horror stories about couriers to risk it. The buyer must be able to collect from Southport. I work nearer St Helens so could arrange meetup around there. I may be able to split travel within reason and depending on my work shifts, if anyone around the North West is interested. Please reply in topic or PM with any questions or if more photos are needed. Thanks. NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE THIS IS NOW SOLD, thanks to Basschat & buyer
