  1. She’s cheap at £350 too!!
  2. Au contraire, Blackadder - he should get a bonus. Look at all the internet traffic his idea has generated and how much talk there is here.
  3. Mrs B knows that if I get basses then I’m not a grumpy git. Seems to work
  4. I’ve had some more time with it now. Stuck some Chromes on as I generally prefer them on P style basses. Yup. Prefer them on this too. More thump, more zing (well as much as flats can give!) and tighter so just feel a lot more accurate and direct to me. The 4 to 5 thing seems odd. I kinda don’t notice it. Hmmm. I guess I’m odd. The neck really is a revelation. It’s actually not that much wider than my 64P, but it feels very different - and it’s very easy to play. It’s sort of like an asymmetric, slightly thinner (front to back) stingray neck, with less radius. Sound wise it has that P thump, but it sound so much more Hifi than a standard P and really has something special going on. In passive mode with the tone rolled off its right in P bass territory, but in active with some treble and bass boost it’s got a sparkle that you don’t get on a P The B seems to be tight and defined - it’s got great clarity to it. Feels about the same weight as my 64 - slightly more than the Finn 4 but not by much. Balance is just fine. All in all I couldn’t be happier. Alan has done a brilliant job with the RetroB of capturing everything that makes a P bass so usable, but at the same time adding something a bit different to make it feel like it’s adding to the formula rather than taking away. My only worry is that I will miss that B on my 4’s now, and I’m wondering if a fretless 5 is in the offing. I can see the Finn 4 getting replaced live, and I can see a fretless 5 in my future. I can also see a lot of dusty 4’s getting little use.. Urk!
  5. You and me both
  6. Dave - where are you based? I have both, you could try both of mine
  7. There are a load of basses in this thread that I look at and think “I’d have that.. nice” And it makes you wonder why they are so rare. I know a lot of players have pretty conservative tastes, but there’s some cracking looking basses out there for which it seems weird that they aren’t more common
  8. Yeah - you’re a local Let me know if you need any help or need bass/amp/cab buying help or if you just fancy a chat to get you back into the swing of things
  9. I honestly don’t care. It’s an Internet forum. Specifically we debate basses, amps and other stuff. It’s just debate. I’m not breast beating, or bothered, or offended or pretty much anything to be honest. It seems like a good amp, at a good price, but there is a whiff of “over-hyped specs” in the advertising. So I don’t care so much at all. Would I buy one? Possibly. The thing is, a new player on another forum contacted me and asked me why this 2000w amp was so much cheaper than other amps even those at 500w which were clearly inferior in power terms.
  10. I’m getting used to it already and it only came today - really pleased!
  11. Lots. It’s an Internet forum to talk about basses. We get enough crap posted about non-bass stuff as it is - I’d much rather have a debate about this sort of stuff on here.
  12. Genuine 600w RMS? Or is it....?
  13. Spalding - not far at all.
  14. I’m just up the road from you. If you need any specific purchasing help/want to try stuff out, then give me a shout
  15. I’ll shut up then
  16. I’m allergic to bananas and I still like yellow
  17. I was specifically referencing this one. More specifically the fact that at least 2 U.K. retailers have the power listed as 2000w RMS despite the manual saying 2000w Peak. I don’t recall any other amp product I’ve come across with a similar discrepancy.
  18. Damn it and it’s good sounding, loud enough, reliable ability to cut through the mix!
  19. You don’t notice when you are in front of it, facing away towards the audience
  20. So what do I think? I’ve put some TI’s on it. I was going to put Chromes on but decided to try TIs first. Didn’t have to tweak the rod (phew - no cracked necks ) It’s the lowest action I’ve had on a bass. It’s sitting at just over a mm on the B and about .7 on the G. Very very little fret buzz at all until you dig in (with fingers) which I would expect. Cor. Never thought it would sit this low action wise and be as playable. It sounds very P bass, as expected - and I have a bass with the p-retro Preamp in so knew exactly what to expect. As for fives - a bit like the fretless, I’ve realised I’m just not adventurous in my playing and trying stuff as I should be - feels natural and easy to get on with and I reckon after an hour or so it will be second nature. Should have got one ages ago - go figure. Alan really has surpassed himself. Love the body shape, the neck is astonishingly good and it’s the sort of fit and finish that you expect at the very highest price point. Sorry @CameronJ but I doubt this one is going anywhere fast.. Been in two minds about an ACG and wondered if they are worth going for? Don’t hesitate at all. They are simply sublime.
  21. It’s arrived. Beauty shots will have to wait till it’s actually light outside when I’m home.. but just in case you don’t believe me
  22. I think the fact that the manual is the only place, and most retailer listings or ads don’t state RMS or Peak is the cause of the consternation. Each time I see a retailer listing saying “x Watts RMS” my initial reaction isn’t “better check the manual as they could be lying”
  23. I meant the fact that Bugera don’t state RMS is irrelevant to the point I was making, which was simply that even the Retailers are confused.
