2.
I started by just going cold turkey and dropping using a pick entirely, until I'd gotten the hang of fingerstyle. Now I can swap back and forth quite happily although I still need more practice
I may end up doing that, but only in personal practice cos it would annoy my bands while I made the transition
 3.
To start with it's just a matter of getting a good clean, consistent note while alternating between your index and middle fingers(you can add a third finger if you want).Just going up and down the open strings is a good starting point. At a slow tempo, and on one note,go from playing crotchets for 4 bars,to quavers,to semi quavers. Take it steady at first and aim for accuracy rather than speed. Then try crossing strings. Try playing some major scales both ascending and descending, while paying attention to your plucking hand. You can try the previous exercise with scales if you want. Then you can try mixing it up with different intervals-thirds,fifths and octaves are a good place to start. Don't try and rush things. Aim for accuracy by playing the notes cleanly, and concentrate on finger alternation. Speed will naturally come over time.
Sounds simple doesn't it? My main problem area is swapping strings so the major scale exercise should be a big help. Thanks for the reply
 4. Hello all. I've been playing for about 4 years or so now. Most of my playing has been punk or rock orientated so I've always used a pick and didn't start out using my fingers. Has anyone got any top tips or good exercises to start playing with fingers? Links to decent learning material would be most welcome. Thanks Gary

 8. I have an identical model, that's the first time I've ever seen another. The VVT controls on mine are round not octagonal, but that's the only difference. If it's anything like mine, it's gorgeous to play and sounds great
 9. Bought a P/J hybrid Squier P bass from John, very reasonable price for a nice little bass, decent fella to do business with, would be happy to deal with any time, cheers Gary

I wouldn't mind trying one but cant find a dealer who stocks them, or has a price. They've all got the drum cases
The drummer in my band uses these I'll ask him

 15. +1 To all of the above. I did try to get a Lincoln bass forum going a while back via the Lincoln bands site. Turned out to be me and a guy called Steve from Saxilby

 18. Hello all, wanted to get some pearls of wisdom concerning my purchasing a back up bass. Currently have a Fender Jazz Japanese All Blk, very nice too, thought about trading it a while back, that would be a mistake. I love it. I used to own an ash bodied Warwick Corvette STD 5. I really liked it, the only problem was it had one string too many for how i play and well I like to keep things simple. So I sold it. I'd love a 4 string version as a back up or an alternative to my jazz for certain tunes I guess. However, I have a limited budget so was wondering, how much of a difference in build quality is there between a german made Corvette and the Rockbass equivalent? I get confused about this all the time, sone folk swear they have Squiers as good as American Fenders or MIM better than a MIJ. I appreciate it's all subjective. I recently bought a Chinese made Ibanez and you could tell the build quality was not great, the strings weren't symmetrical on the fret board and the neck didn't quite sit right in the pocket, the strings seemed a mile away from the board at the dusty end, those sorts of things. just wondered if anyone had any thoughts, I've not ever had my hands on a Rockbass before. Cheers Gary
