2.
A "Rockinbetter": http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 £499 BIN. Looks really tacky. J.
I agree. 500 quid seems a lot to me. It's not old, made in China(?). I normally love the older Tokais, but this doesn't do it for me. Much prefer some 'vintage' Jap crap for half the price. 'Rockinbetter' also seems a bit naff to me. Probably a great bass - I dunno....
  3.
Pas avec un trois-metre bargepole, mon ami. French seller with feedback of four, posting to mainland France only. Claims that it has all four original strings (!) and has never had any problems, despite knowing virtually nothing about the bass's history. Doesn't state if the electrics work at all. No case mentioned. Lousy photos. I'd rather bid for the Hondo!
I'm going to watch this. So long as price doesn't go silly, may have a punt. I go quite regularly all over France on business, & selling location (Montsoult) not far from Paris, which is my next visit. I've asked seller if local collection is OK. Then if it's no good, can refuse it. However, all depends on price, which has already crept up to 280Euros.
  4. Here we go, this is more like it. Was tempted to this one myself, but probably have enough for the moment. Interesting brand name. Maybe Bassassin could shed some light.. Ive just bought one of their 51 P's off ebay,im interested to see what it sounds like for £112! WFG
I'm also considering one of those. Would be grateful to hear your comments on it. Cheers Nick
  7.
Spot on. Johnny Marr gets all the credit but Rourke's lines are just lovely.
Good call - very underrated. Had it on very good info years ago from someone within Smiths camp, that despite the genius of Johnny Marr; Andy Rourke did in fact come up with some, though not all, of the basslines himself. Quite often working something different out around chord progressions written by Marr, that would sometimes almost become a song within a song. A good example being 'This Charming Man'. 8. Another one: Emory Gordy Jr. for Elvis Presley's 'Burning Love'
  9. Hello all. This thread was on old site. I quite liked it because it made me aware of some of the more interesting overlooked players, probably never heard of or listened to in much detail. My nominations are: Barry Adamson (Magazine) George Murray (Bowie - 'Low','Scary Monsters')* wish I could find more info on this guy, nothing on Web(?) Has anybody got any other listening recommendations, more obscure the better. Cheers Nick
  10. Not a fan of Queen myself, but have to admit "Under Pressure" is a seminal bassline, & a cracking tune.

    Octave Pedle

I like the EH Octave Multiplexer. Nice warm, almost lo-fi tones. Has some interesting controls on it, & a 'sub' switch which kicks in a nice farty fuzz sound. Tracking is not brilliant, about same as Boss. Used a Boss before, but didn't like sound - seemed a bit too synthetic(?) to me.
  12. Cracking basses. Used to have a Thunder 1A, until some kindly person nicked it. Was never a great fan of the body shape myself - very eighties, but soundwise akin to a good Precision. Definitely a good recording bass. Construction of these is good as well, could probably survive a nuclear attack. As per previous post, an excellent workhorse. IMHO well worth a ton.
