  1. The eqs on those Ashdown valve heads are a bit of a art 🤣
  2. not a Fender hater by any means, I've owned a good few and they're 'fine'.
  3. TBH, I think geographically we're far more spoiled for choice , some fantastic basses coming from central Europe these days most Americans aren't even aware of. Fender is a home product and is cheaper over there.
  4. Hi Folks Looking for another project and I think this might be one. A few months ago I picked up a 90s 50W carlsbro guitar valve head for very small money, for fun. I decided to use it as a home practice amp for bass and really surprised with the result and has a surprising amount of low end grunt and its really smooth. I have it for sale but really nobody is interested in it as a guitar amp, I think that market is saturated so I'm considering holding onto it, because I really like the sound from it. I was wondering if the amp could be beefed up to 100W and made into a serious gigging bass amp? (not that I need one as I already have a CTM-100!) I've read in a few other forums that it might not be worth the hassle. It has 4 * 12AX7 valves in the preamp stage and 2 * EL34s at power stage. could I experiment with KT77s , 6L6s? Wouild I need now power/output transformers ? I'm wondering what my options are and if its worth it (is it even possible).
  5. All sorted by a change of pre-amp valves. Cheers
  6. I had one a few years back, it was probably the nicest sounding amp I ever had, but I wanted something louder and cleaner so traded up to the CTM-100. I reckon with a really efficient cab you could probably gig with it (if you didnt mid some break up).
  7. Fender Jazz v Fender Precision, because they are the only 2 Basses ever made.
  8. They used to have a decent app but it was discontinued for some legal reason I reckon . I asked what happened to it and I was informed by the thought police there that such questions were verboten.
  9. Definitely and I’ve learned so much about stuff, particularly about different types of gear etc from 30years of playing bass. I’m still learning. What I thought was gospel 20 years ago I’ve totally done a 180deg on based on experience and changes in musical tastes. What makes me laugh though is the blatant contradictory information spouted by “experts”. Stuff that you would thing is solid science that can’t have contradictory answers . Stuff like information on impedance, wattage etc.
  10. I’ve often got the comment “this has been discussed at length on another thread “ (so don’t bother us) whenever I’ve asked a question I feel is relevant to the thread . Just the other day a guy made a point of telling me to research the topic in YouTube myself instead of offering any insight, like he was putting me in my place . It was a question on valve differences and the forum was about small ‘tube’ bass amps. To be fair I’ve gotten that once on this sight by an “expert”
  11. “Are you from Ireland ? I love U2” is a regular post .
  12. I love when a Ric comes across Dave ‘the gooches’ work bench . He typically spends the entire video berating the brand 🤣🤣
  13. Isn’t there an EUB and Double Bass section in BC? Or are you referring to synth?
  14. I like my valve heads and I make it a point of referring to them as valves . Tubes my derrière.
  15. I use a barefaced two10 for everything. Compact and loud enough for any gig
  16. I’ve seen people use big plexi Marshall heads with those little guitar cabs from barefaced. Looks a little odd but apparently they sound great .
  17. I honestly think their one10 is probably as good as most 1x15 cabs 😂.
  18. Just think the folks here are a much friendlier bunch than that “other” site across the pond. A lot of folks there act like they’ve small willies or something.
  19. Bump! A great guitar head up for grabs. All tube , 50w, made in England. Sounds great as a bass amp also.
  20. I've played in pub bands and part-owned a pub at one stage so I have some sympathy for both camps. On the one hand margins have gone so tight that to pay a band £300-400 on top of staff and overheads etc really puts a dent into a nights takings, especially if that band hasn't generated that revenue in extra customers. Plus there's the lost floor space, hassle with neighbors, police , etc and now insurance ("I tripped over that guitar cable, honestly guv"). Its no wonder they dont bother with it or just get a man with a guitar and a beep box. On the flip side there are unscrupulous landlords that will pay you a pittance while you pack their pub with thirsty revelers, I've experienced this on a good few occasions where the pub would be jointed and we come away with €150 between 5 musicians. I think a pro-rata payment would be the fairest in an ideal world. I found that the only way to make serious money gigging is to sell your soul and do corporate events, weddings etc. Life is too short and there inst enough shower gel in all the world that could wash away the shame of being reduced to playing 'rock the boat' to a bunch of idiots with ties around their heads.
  21. Recently purchased a second hand 2 * 15 Schroeder on this site for small money...the sound is immence. 1/2 the price and twice the wattage of my barefaced two10.
  22. I did a straight swap with a guy a few years back. He had a passive Mayones Jabba 4, I had a Fender Jazz USA. To me the Mayones was just streets ahead but he just wanted that Fender Logo on his headstock for some reason. I sometimes feel guilty about the swap. Sometimes.
  23. We use a Behringer PA for vocals and it works just fine.
