  1. Anyone ever try those platform thingies ?
  2. Seller collecting a Carslbro 50 top guitar head I bought there a few months ago ‘for the craic’ as we say around here. It was a surprisingly lovely sounding amp for bass but totally impractical. It smelled very nice though 🤣. Oldie woodey burnt dust odour that you can only get with an old valve amp 🤣. And a heavy lump .
  3. When I was in my 30s I wanted maintenance free lightweight hi-fidelity technology that I could put in my pocket Now that I’m in my mid 40s with Dickey knees I want 1960s Cold War technology that weighs the same as a small house and needs constant replacement of parts that were made in countries that no longer exist 🤣🤣🤣
  4. You need to go to another bass forum that I think is called “talk basses” or something??? . Full of angry yanks anyhow 🤣🤣
  5. The one problem with valve heads, small cabinets don’t really work with them , especially if they’re only around 100w. There isn’t enough power to get what you want and they physically don’t fit on them . You need big high sensitivity cabs with them (well that’s what I found )
  6. Definitely think that head needs a lot of speakers
  7. Bit of a rare beast. A 2008 Mayones Jabba4 passive . (No battery box) the switch runs the 2 pickups in series for extra oomph but I rarely use it. Sounds fab.
  8. Here’s some of my stuff (seen be Raggae bass already 🤣)
  9. You need one of these CTM amps . (If you haven’t one already 😂)
  10. The Missus gone to the in-laws with barins so I decided to rig up my stuff together for fun and have a blast . 🤘 very very loud for 100w 😀
  11. I've just sold an unused amp that I bought on a whim...at a loss of course. Now browsing through reverb, Thomann, BC etc and I'm just not feeling the urge to make excuses to get more stuff. Has my gas run out ??? ! To be fair to myself I only made one purchase this year, last year and the year before were ludicrous: Maybe in 2020 I can get through the year without buying anything 😂 (excluding consumable items of course). .........There's an EBS Reidemar 2ohm head that's taunting me however. Would be really handy for my 2 * 4 ohms cabs.........here we go again!!
  12. Might be an over generalization but I just find people here have a bit of a self-deprecating sense of humour and don't take themselves too seriously. I find its a more friendly site and you're not walking on eggshells as much.
  13. The eqs on those Ashdown valve heads are a bit of a art 🤣
  14. not a Fender hater by any means, I've owned a good few and they're 'fine'.
  15. TBH, I think geographically we're far more spoiled for choice , some fantastic basses coming from central Europe these days most Americans aren't even aware of. Fender is a home product and is cheaper over there.
  16. Hi Folks Looking for another project and I think this might be one. A few months ago I picked up a 90s 50W carlsbro guitar valve head for very small money, for fun. I decided to use it as a home practice amp for bass and really surprised with the result and has a surprising amount of low end grunt and its really smooth. I have it for sale but really nobody is interested in it as a guitar amp, I think that market is saturated so I'm considering holding onto it, because I really like the sound from it. I was wondering if the amp could be beefed up to 100W and made into a serious gigging bass amp? (not that I need one as I already have a CTM-100!) I've read in a few other forums that it might not be worth the hassle. It has 4 * 12AX7 valves in the preamp stage and 2 * EL34s at power stage. could I experiment with KT77s , 6L6s? Wouild I need now power/output transformers ? I'm wondering what my options are and if its worth it (is it even possible).
  17. All sorted by a change of pre-amp valves. Cheers
  18. I had one a few years back, it was probably the nicest sounding amp I ever had, but I wanted something louder and cleaner so traded up to the CTM-100. I reckon with a really efficient cab you could probably gig with it (if you didnt mid some break up).
  19. Fender Jazz v Fender Precision, because they are the only 2 Basses ever made.
  20. They used to have a decent app but it was discontinued for some legal reason I reckon . I asked what happened to it and I was informed by the thought police there that such questions were verboten.
  21. Definitely and I’ve learned so much about stuff, particularly about different types of gear etc from 30years of playing bass. I’m still learning. What I thought was gospel 20 years ago I’ve totally done a 180deg on based on experience and changes in musical tastes. What makes me laugh though is the blatant contradictory information spouted by “experts”. Stuff that you would thing is solid science that can’t have contradictory answers . Stuff like information on impedance, wattage etc.
  22. I’ve often got the comment “this has been discussed at length on another thread “ (so don’t bother us) whenever I’ve asked a question I feel is relevant to the thread . Just the other day a guy made a point of telling me to research the topic in YouTube myself instead of offering any insight, like he was putting me in my place . It was a question on valve differences and the forum was about small ‘tube’ bass amps. To be fair I’ve gotten that once on this sight by an “expert”
  23. “Are you from Ireland ? I love U2” is a regular post .
