1.
Does yours have the valve sticking out of the back like the one on the website? I'm surprised he did that - mounting something made of glass on the outside of a pedal meant to go on the floor seems like an odd decision!
It's sticking out a little bit at the back, doesn't get in the way though. Have any of you changed valves? I'm still playing around with it at the moment to get different tones. Any recommendations for settings on there I should try for a nice subtle warmth?

3. Hi guys, Just a quick post to say how happy I am with the pedal Dave just built for me. I asked for his standard VT1-EQ-Di-Std-Bass but requested it without the DI, headphone amp, colour and aux input as I had no use for these. I've cranked the I/P to full, Gain to 12 o'clock, Bright switch on, a little boost of Bass and the level evened out with the Clean Boost switch/dial. Great valve overdrive sound and tone, couldn't be happier. This is the pedal in it's original form that Dave sells : http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page53.html Anyone else have a DHA pedal they use? Thanks Jim
4.
My advise is don't buy him a starter bass. Buy your son a good quality instrument that sounds the dogs and if it costs a bit more he will pay you back a thousand fold when he spends hours doing something educational and useful with his time rather than playing a video game with a starter bass standing in the corner. Seriously, when I was a kid my family was skint. My uncle bought me and my two brothers a guitar each and two of us play to this day 35 years later because he gave us a good instrument. If its good enough for your to play its good enough for him. Wish you all the best starting your son out, invest in his potential.
Thank you. In my mind I keep thinking that a good instrument is nicer and easier to play. You've just put it into better words and a nice story too!
Ibanez SR all the way. Light as a feather, full-scale but skinny neck ideal for growing hands, properly well made with decent hardware, electronics & pups - easily good enough that there's no need to upgrade if he really gets into it. And they look cool. Pretty cheap used, you can pick up a nearly new SR300 for a little over a ton, or an older higher-range model for about the same. I recently got a rough but perfectly playable SR500 for £87. Jon.
I've never had an SR but always liked the look of them. I'll have to see if I can have a go on one!
5. Thanks guys, sound advice from everyone. I'll do my own setups so I'll get it playing nice for him if needed and stick a nice set of strings on for the little fella
6. Thanks for all the replies guys. £100 (ish) and all those suggestions are great!
7. Good advice, thanks! He's got small hands so I might go down the Jazz route as the neck won't be as big for him. This looks good http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_jb_75_sb_vintage_serie.htm
8. Hi guys, I'm starting to teach my eldest boy and wondered your thoughts on a decent Bass to buy him. I don't want anything too heavy but at the same time I still want a full size Bass?
9. Bump. Still for sale!
10. Bump again for an amazing amp and a good price too! It is perfect guys, you won't be disappointed!
11. Traded my cabs for Geoffs' Bass last night. Top fella, totally knows his stuff and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks Geoff!
