1. My friend recently went through a similar thing with his own brother, who was the drummer. He had to get rid and the band are much better for it now. If the guy knows he's playing below par, you tell him he's out and then he throws his toys out of the pram, that should only reaffirm that you made 100% the right choice.
2.
Going to see The Mission in October. Supported by Peter Murphy. Really looking forward to that gig , two gothic legends! Going to see Diamond Head two days later. Another blast from the past. Gonna be a great week !
Brian Tatler lives on the street next to mine! Lovely chap and DH always bring it live. Enjoy!
3. Apart from shows I'm playing, it'll be Death Grips in Manchester, then Amanda Palmer in Liverpool, then Death Grips again in London.
4.
I've got to admit I'm not familiar with that one but I'm going to go and check it out now. Thanks for the tip.
No worries! His vocals take a bit of getting used to but I find that everything's on the money. Hope you enjoy it!
5. Probably Les Claypool. Although a large part of that is because I'm not talented enough to play his lines, nor do I play in a band where I could get away with as outrageous a bass sound. Still, Primus exist and for that I am happy.
6. 16 for me was 2007 - Probably Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, Necrophagist, Death and other progressive death metal. Still listen to a lot of that today. Death's Symbolic is still the best metal record I've ever heard. That said, I have and always will love The Clash, so them too.
7. I've got a Yamaha Pacifica 112V which is a superb instrument and has stayed with me despite a lot more expensive guitars being shown the door. Shoot me a PM if you're interested, I need some cash to satisfy the GAS attack.
8. Usually Ebay or the FB buy/sell groups, although it's all about bass these days. I have a beautiful Baja Tele for sale in the classifieds if anyone's interested!
9. @dyerseve Cheers Chris! @therealting Yeah, definitely want to sell. It's been a trusty instrument but I'm not that attached to it - it was just a tool (and a very effective one at that) in order to get started playing bass. Plus I've got way, way too many guitars in the house to warrant keeping any that aren't getting played.
10. Chris is a great guy - pleasure to do business with and very proficient at restoring basses so buy with confidence! GLWTS
11. Great bass still available. Would be hard to pick up an easier to play, more versatile bass for the money. PM if interested

13.
Great keyboard! I have exactly the same issue with my DC plug.
Pretty much the only design flaw on an excellent sounding synth!
14.
Just been to pmt and the music room on college green. Tried an sr370. Wasn't impressed. The pickups were to big to work with for resting thumb on when plucking and the harmonics wye pretty dead. The tone was decent but overall no deal. It didn't help that the dry up was terrible making a fair assessment impossible. I tried a226 quid Yamaha trbx30 in the music room which seemed is better, but I don't know anything about this bass. That really want much else with posting. I've alresfy tried the sub music man and that was all they had within my passive range. I didn't see the point of wasting time trying a bunch of expensive bases I can't afford
My Yamaha TRBX is for sale here for £150. PM me if you're interested mate - I can vouch for them being great, reliable basses (I've had no back up for 12 months). Plus the thumbrest is neat too
15. We share 3/5! [Klausenitzer, Arif & Claypool] My other two are Paul Simonen from The Clash and Martin Mendez from Opeth
theres loads i could mention and most have already been mentioned but my current listens are Linus Klausenitzer - Obscura (mind blowingly good), Alkaloid, Noneuclid Arif Mirabdolbaghi - Protest the hero (sadly no longer with the band) Dominic "Forest" Lapointe - Beyond Creation (again no longer with the band, their new bassist is pretty handy too), Teramobil Duff McKagan - He's the reason i play bass and i learnt all of Guns and Roses songs to learn the bass, just solid Les Claypool - hes a god and bonkers
16. I think if you do a bit of research and buy something used for £300, you'll get a pretty damn good bass. Whether that's the right bass for you is a different story and, as others have said, requires having played quite a few first. Personally I stick with Yamaha basses because that's what I'm comfortable using live and in the studio. They're very affordable and have excellent build quality, so I'd recommend looking at them. (I'm selling a TRBX304 for £150 over at the sell forum, and if you like active basses I don't think you'll find a better one for that money)
