2. The imminent birth of a pair of Omni10.5s and the need to buy a Precision means I'm looking to shift this cab. It's a 2x10 and 500watts, 8 ohms, 49lbs and a very easy one man lift I would say it's probably the best sounding cab I've owned or heard. I sold the Schroeder you can see next to it in the picture because the BFM sounded so much better I didn't see any point in keeping it. I've got pictures of the innards and the build process for anyone who's interested. I took a lot of care building this because I had intended to keep it, and I'm something of an obsessive perfectionist so it's well put together, but GAS has finally got the better of me. £400, and that's a bargain for a cab that sounds this good. I'm in South Hampshire for anyone who wants a demo. Any questions please ask. Now £350. I would also be interested in trading for a Precision with a rosewood board with some folding stuff from me depending on what the P is.
3. Yeah great sound. I'd like to know what amp setup he's using
4. Very Interesting shootout between an Ampeg SVT and Laney Nexus with their respective 8x10s.
5. I think it's an improvement
6. +1 to all of the above. I've got nothing but praise for Ashdown's customer service. THey always reply promptly to e-mails no matter how stupid the question. On the occasion I had to return my head to them it was fixed and back at the dealer within 4 days. And that was 4 years after I bought it.
7. Just to confuse you further Sk8, The Highway P Bass has the greasebucket(?) circuitry in it. This is supposed to be a considerable improvement over the traditional P Bass tone control which basically just rolls off the treble, and the S1 which I always find is next to useless on the P, as it seems like everyone else does. I read a review in one of the mags. I think it was G****r & Bass magazine. They said it was the best Precision Fender had ever produced and a real improvement over the Am Series. I also agree with the above comment about the moulded hardcase you get with an Am series. They used to be good but they're now cheap flimsy crap. I'd rather have a decent quality gig bag
8. I'm amazed how few people have only got 1 bass. 3 so far. I need to buy another one. Damn you BassChat
9.
True enough Though John Entwhistle , Phil Lynott and Jaco are looking a bit rough!
They all led fairly "interesting" lives though.
10.
I think at the time Ashdown did a recall on a batch of ABM's as they had a problem with the adhesive not bonding the ply and the tolex. As for the mute, I tried the one in the shop when I returned mine and it did the same.
I see
11.
Upon return to the retailer I was told that 'they all do that'. Refund please!
If the retailer says so it must be true. Odd that mine never has.
12.
It's just a solid, meaty sound, and when I used my OD pedal I was pretty much decided that I needed one. Exactly the sound I'm looking for, not something flashy for slapping, just a full on, heavy, dependable sound.
+1 It's a great sound. I've owned an ABM500 for many years. It can sound a bit woolly under some circumstances, but the setup you're talking about should sound really good. 2x10 + 4x10 will certainly make the audience want to visit the lavatory.
13. When playing my 62 re-issue Jazz I get a lot of high frequency noise whenever one hand is in contact with the strings and moving, for instance sliding my hand up or down the neck produces a kind of crackling, hissing, spitting static-like noise (it's very difficult to describe a noise). With the other hand touching the strings it's ok, so playing normally it's fine. If I take one hand off to play an open string it makes this noise, and it's loud enough that I'm afraid of damaging my speakers' horn. It does it with two different amps, two different cabs and I've changed all my leads so I have concluded that it is the bass. Has anyone got any ideas?
14.
What sort of trades are you after?
I'm gonna use the money to buy a Precision since I can't live without one so I would trade for a P but the sale is now on hold pending actually doing the deal. Just haven't had a chance to amend the post which I'm doing now.
15.
is that a Chinese elm bonsai in the back there?
It's a Bonsai of some sort. I'm not too sure of the exact breed though It was a wedding present from my brother. Unfortunately it's stuck out in the conservatory because there isn't enough light elsewhere in the house.
16. +1. I had a Q10XD, which is a 4x10 and it sounded amazing but it weighed about 95lbs which was just too much for me. That was a few years ago and at that time there were no UK importers, and they are still very rare over here for some reason. On Talkbass though, they rave about how good they are, particularly the model you mention, so I think 250 Euros is a real bargain.
