1. Thanks for the useful insight. I decided to keep my 102HF for now since I really like it. I will be searching for a NY121 'though, and if I can get one at a good price I'm definitely going to get it. It looks like a super portable and capable cab.
2. I already turned off the piezo in my CMD, it made so much noise it was the first thing I did. But now it sounds great and with plenty of highs for my taste. But maybe it will be nice to have a tweeter in the NY121. My doubt comes from the fact that I usually gig large venues with my HF102 alone and it always delivers. The CMD alone is far from that, but I believe an extension cabinet will do the trick!
3. I currently got a CMD 121p combo which I'm diggin', but I'm struggling to decide on something. I also have a MarkBass 102HF (4ohms) cab which I absolutely love and usually pair with a Orange BT500. I've been offered to trade this cab for a NY121. That way it would be much more portable and could use the 121 to pair either with the combo or with my Orange. Do you think the combination combo+NY would lose in terms of volume and specially low end that I have with the 102HF alone? Or would it be a step up? Since I never tried a NY121 I'm afraid I would lose all the low end and punch I get from the 102HF.
4. Thanks for you answer! The thing is I love the Bass Terror's overdrive. I usually crank up the gain and set the volume very low. I assume that it isn't safe to do this with this cab, right? I thought that with the switch set to 4ohms the head would only pump half the power into the cab, but I see I was wrong :)
5. Reviving a really old thread because of a problem I ran into. Just bought a Barefaced One10 to pair with my BT500. But the One10 is rated 100-250W 8ohms. If I keep my BT switch at 4ohms that means it will only power 250W into the cab?
6. Up! It's from 2008, just noticed this info was missing
7. Still up I'll consider trade offers for a nice 5 string (fender, sadowsky, something like that).
8. I'm selling my Warwick Star Bass II Bubinga made in Germany. I have too many basses, so it's time to let this beauty go. The bass is in great condition as you can see from the pics and video. The bass is in Braga, Portugal, and the price is 1500£. I don't have a hardcase (only gig bag) but if the interest is real let me know and I can try to find one so it's possible to ship it. I can deliver in hand in Portugal or Spain if it's not to far (Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, Salamanca).
9. I just bought a Warwick Streamer Stage II from Ben. Couldn't be happier. I was a bit unsure about buying a bass without trying it and without knowing the owner in person (I'm from Portugal) and Ben was very comprehensive and made everything he could so I felt 100% comfortable. Really really nice guy Very fast communication and great packaging. Thank you very much!! Cheers, Pedro
10. Traded locally for a lovely P-Bass!
11. My lovely 2004 Gretsch Broadkaster Bass G6119B (made in Japan) is now for sale. The color is walnut stain, scale length 30.3", maple neck and body and rosewood fretboard (12" radius). Nut width is 1 11/16". Weight is 3,4kg. It's in very good condition, a few marks as it's been my main bass for 4 years. I've played lots of concerts with it and it never let me down. It's strung with roundwounds, although I think it would sound amazing with flats as well. Everything is original and it also includes the original case, which is a bit worn out and original pickguard. Concerning trades, I'm currently looking for a good Precision Bass, so that would be a trade I would consider. I'm from Portugal, so shipping would be a solution. I have some friends in London I could ask to take the bass to the UK. I'm also going to London this September. PM me and I'm sure we'll work it out I'm looking for £1200 excluding shipping. Please feel free to ask any question. 12. The guy who sold me the bass told me there was a problem with the pickup and it couldn't be repaired. But you're right, it is rare for a pickup to die like that. I'm going to take the bass to a luthier tomorrow to check if there is any possibility of repairing the pickup. If there isn't, I'm inclined to buy a MEC replacement, from the information I gathered people seem to like it a lot!
13. I just bought this second hand Warwick Star Bass II, but the neck pickup needs to be replaced. I'm wondering if I should buy the original MEC pickup or a custom one. Curtis Novak' pickups look awesome, but I'm not sure if the EB-AA (for example) would fit the Star Bass. Does anyone have any advice?
14. I recently bought a Casa Parramón (Barcelona) double bass (new) for something around that price... Check out this thread (http://basschat.co.u...ng-a-doublebass) since there's great advice by many users on that price range
15. Wow!! What a beautiful bass, congrats! I'd love to see a review or a video of the bass rocking out, if you do it someday let me know
16. If they would release a chrome pickup version, I wouldn't resist for sure. I'm waiting for that for quite some time... Beautiful bass!!
17. So I finally made my mind and ended up buying a Casa Parramón double bass, made in Barcelona. It had to be a quick buy, since I'm recording an album soon (two or three months) and I'm really going to practice hard to see if I can record at least one simple track using it :-) I've been told by a local double bassist that these are great sounding and very well made basses! It's a fully carved bass, here follow the pics! 4000€ with adjustable bridge (wheels), thomastik spirocore strings, set up, a semi-rigid case and dave gage pickup.
18. Thank you so much for all the information! I gathered a lot of useful info and I think I'm prepared to make a decision in the next couple of days. I still have some doubts (fishman vs realist, which strings to buy), but I believe one ore two more days of research and I'll make my order I guess one more person is joining the double bass family soon!!
19. It looks like a very nice bass, I got a very good impression by reading some stuff at talkbass. Do you think the gap in quality (over the Christopher 404) would justify the bigger investment in any of these basses? http://www.thomann.d...0_3_4_gamba.htm http://www.thomann.d...ad_bass_3_4.htm I could get the funds to buy one of these, but by the research I've been doing, I really don't think it would be worth it (over the Christopher 404). What's your opinion? Thank you very much, guys, I was really lost here and now I'm finally being able to draw conclusions P.S.: What's the most common bass shape for folk stuff, etc? Gamba seems so weird to me! I really like the looks of violin and busseto shapes, though.
20. Right now I'm planning my lessons for this year and contacting some local players to find out where they bought their double basses I'm researching the websites you provided, and came across with this Cristopher (http://www.thomann.de/pt/christopher_db_404_double_bass_3_4_b_stock.htm), it looks nice! Although my price limit is 4500gbp, I would be much happier if I could find a 2500gbp great bass... Any thoughts on this particular bass?
21. Hey there! I've been a bass player for some years, but I recently came across with the necessity of buying and learning to play the double bass, and realized I know nothing about it... Can you please guide me a little bit to know where I should be looking for a nice double bass to play mainly Folk, Acoustic, Jazz, Pop, etc? I need a good instrument, since I'm a professional musician and I need it to sound good in a pop concert environment. The pickup is also very important, right? I'm really lost here, since I don't know which websites to look for, or where to buy the double bass. I'm from Portugal, so I'll probably have to order the bass without trying it first. My price limit would be about 4500gbp for the bass+pickup. Thanks a lot for the help! Cheers, Pedro
22. Hey Miguel! Welcome, I'm from Portugal as well (Porto) and this forum rocks
