1. As Im a dad-at-home with a 2 yo son who roams all over the place I need this rig to be very compact. Just a small bass combo and a bass guitar that has it all. No pedals for me at this stage of my life. I have lots of guitar pedals but that is in my studio room safely raised on the table. I need this bass rig to be so portable i can move it and remove it very fast as little kids can get in very crazy situations within seconds So yes, in a way, it is a very demanding gigging situation!
2. Thank you all! Fantastic info so far! Very helpful! I should have quested those Bartolini pickups were licensed Ok so now I’m looking at Marcus Miller M2 and Ibanez SR 300 as they fit my budget better. Both seem to be on the lighter side which is good for my aging shoulders … also eyeing 2nd hand market just in case.
3. Ordered this Warwick BC10 which should arrive next week. Wonder what you folks have to say about it. Did any of you use it and if you think it’s a good choice for a low volume practice? I did look at the Hartke HD15, Rumble 15 and Ampeg RB108 but opted for Warwick as it seems noise free and is small. As I’m dad at home I need it to be small to move it fast if my youngest son is misbehaving Please do tell anything you know about this Warwick amp and also if you think I could have chosen a better amp within the similar price range. (Must be small).
4. You mean for solo bass playing? Or else?
5. I always had problems with 2nd hand instruments. Usually they show fret wear. Also 2nd hand prices are not that low in Denmark. Which is good when you are selling of course. I would rather buy a new bass from Thomann as their return policy and warranty is great. But I will look at the 2nd hand too (which I already do) in case price is right and frets not used up too much.
6. It's perfect for Marcus Miller M2 and V3 as well as Ibanez SR300. That Cort I mentioned is above my budget but sure could save a bit longer to get that if that one is a better deal that the cheaper ones I mentioned above. And yes I could afford any of the Harley Bentons but I know the brand so well (had dozen of their guitars and 2 basses) I know QC can be hit and miss and the electronics can be noisy and ... I would rather not mod my first active bass but play as is out of the box. NOTE; my spell check is not functioning on this forum ... gotta find out why. sorry for any spell mistakes
7. Wow you still going strong lads! I was part of this competition 7 years ago. Maybe with 2 or 3 entries but it was fun! Just wanted to say hi and keep on keeping on! Best wishes!
8. Hi folks! A guitarist here who played a bit bass on my cheapo Harley Benton jazz and shorty P bass guitars but never seriously. However, Im starting to be interested in trying an active bass. 4 string and affordable. Im looking at Marcus Miller M2 and even the V3 active as well as the CORT B4 Element (Bartolini pickups and preamp however I read QC can be hit and miss). There is also the cheap Harley Benton MM-84A bass. (I do not want a heavy bass as in weight) Ibanez SR300EB active bass might also be of interest. Mostly interested in solo bass playing, so a nice note separation in a chord is a must, and more punch when needed. Im not after a vintage tone. Im not slapping either. I like versatility hence would love the option of a tweakable preamp. Would prefer silent non-hissy pickups. If you could suggest and also shed some light why I would want or not want the mentioned bass guitars or anything you find useful to a beginner active bass player. Much appreciated.
9. Well now you know it Im in a bit of a financial situation at the moment but man would I love to snatch that FAME amp. I will have to keep playing my solid state for while longer ...
10. Im surprised that no one mentioned the Joyo Sweet Baby (Fender clone) which is also being sold rebranded as FAME at Music Store for only 169 Euros https://www.musicstore.de/de_DE/EUR/Fame-JTA-05-Sweet-Baby-Combo/art-GIT0032351-000 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVfPhBIPBGg
11. This one I did last month but would have fit well in the 'Journey of the Butterflies' for this month eh, the rules say the tune must be from this month tho https://soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/sonic-puzzle-improvisation
12.
What the hell, might as well put one of our numbers up. Ms Winehouse's 'You know I'm no good'
Man Im glad to see Im not the only one using the thumb for bass playing Nice playing!
13. So what happened to the guitar trio? I wonder how did you manage not to invade each others sonic space? Did you separate each guitar via the Mids EQ control or else?
14. Thank you Dad for taking time to write these reviews, good man! Yes indeed its a metronome played through floating delay in hope to get the ticking clock sound Sorry if my tune made you contemplate such disturbing thoughts. But then again that could be a good thing, contemplating on ones impermanence. Nothing lasts forever hence life is beautiful (or is it) .... I better go to bed now ... nighty night
15. Love all me Bentons great value indeed they are

18. My Harley Benton CG200CE classical Deko and JB-75 bass Deko instrumental https://soundcloud.c...e-improvisation Just got a new Harley Benton classical guitar (with preamp) join my Benton family. Bought as Deko for dirt cheap, embarrassed to mention even how cheap it was
19. Thanks for the tip, will look at the Hartke model 2000, 15" 2115Combo, 200 W or maybe wait if anything else shows up ... or maybe I should simply go to my biggest local music shop and check some bass amps to get a rough idea how they sound both with bass and guitar ...
20. Good to hear it was a jack pot! The only issue I ever encountered with HB el-guitars were a few uneven frets which can be easily fixed by "hammering" them gently with a rubber hammer (I use the rubber handle of me screwdriver) and job done. Yes the bridge is hotter, more trebly and needs taming with the tone knob. Now I am surprised to hear that its the opposite on the Jazz Bass, since I come from a guitar background I always assumed bridge is the loud one like on all instruments even on a Clarinet if it had a bridge that is Will have to check my Jazz Bass today and hear for my self. I always play with both pickups so never really listened carefully to just one long enough to notice that bridge pup is quieter. Strange indeed One always learns new things, especially here on Bass Chat.
21. Harley Benton SC-1000 active pups, have got very good reviews (check on you tube for demos) http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_l1000_vb_progressive_line.htm
22. Thanks Dad! Leny is the cheapest but it also looks the oldest (it was kicked around I can see) But Im looking at the Ampeg Micro-CL stack with 2x10" I need this amp for guitar playing too. A 15" amp could just be a bit too boomey for it. Its 200 Euros and looks like new!
23. I'm still not sure which amp to get. I'm running low on fuel (money) so Im looking at some second hand amps here in Denmark. Never had a bass amp in my life so ... help me decide please These amps are on offer and very cheap: Leny RB 300W Super bass combo Ampeg Micro-CL 100 w head with 2x10" (looks like new) Ampeg BA 115 , 100 W combo Warwick W-CCL 300 W combo 15" Hartke model 2000, 15" Combo, 200 W Home use, rehearsals, small gigs. I play all from clean to dirty so an all rounder would suit me fine. I am also planning to play my el-guitar on this amp so should suit that need too if possible. Thank you!
