1. Please give the Behringer U-Phoria UM2 a try. I have it and it is awesome yet very cheap at Thomann. I use ASIO4ALL and have sample rate at 1024 or there about no crackling no nothing, just great clean sound. I use Reaper DAW with it. Also check if by a chance you have selected the computer mic (if using laptop like me) that will give out lots of hiss but you will of course hear the bass because the mic is picking up the music. Make sure you select the USB interface input (either 1 or 2 depending how many inputs yours have) I also find the sound to be better when plugging the bass direct into the interface and listen to it in DAW via headphones. Then adding FX or playing it via amp pluggins like Helian 1st Bass or Emissary Amp. One of my tunes via Behringer U-Phoria UM2 https://soundcloud.c...tal-scjb-louder
2. Actually I couldn't let it rest I went ahead and did some more editing and now I think (I DARE TO THINK) that I nailed it sound wise and EQ wise; I now added Chorus to the solo bass and turned its volume a bit down. I also added Saturation 4 x in the master mix and I changed the phase on the rhythm bass. I also gave the guitar some bottom end. what say you ? New version HERE; https://soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/improvisation-for-the-one-im-waiting-for-with-chorussaturation
3. I tried recording with my Zoom B1ON and the sound was as you described. So I now go direct into my "fantastic for the money" Behringer U-Phoria UM2 interface and add effects later in Reaper. Sounds much better especially when played through the Emissary or Helian 1st Bass plugins (amps).
4. I rather like the new version. Thomann has not changed the Fender-style models but it did change all the Gibson-style models, so I assume the Big G had something to do with it All the single cut, double cut, 335's have got a new shape. Either they look like 'Vintage' or 'ESP'
5. Thanks! I did try to add some chorus to it but no matter what I did the solo bass didnt sound good with the rest. To my ears it still sounded best in the original posted here. Of course the solo itself could have been better timed and better composed I guess. I will let this one rest for now and see if others have more to say.
6.
I'd really appreciate if you could check it out in SoundCloud and let me know what you think...thanks! https://soundcloud.c...s/illuminations
Ok but you might not like what Im about to say so buckle up; The music is superb, what a great energy, exploding rebellious, nice intros also! ... and then comes that voice I mean a very fine voice, the singer sure can sing BUT not for this style of music your band is playing He has a voice for softer romantic rock songs. Man I honestly wish you had a stronger voice in this great sounding record (this is only one tiny personal view others might think otherwise). I think it is your singer's romantic personality which comes out into the songs and that is great that he can express himself as he is and I don't think he should try and force him self sound tougher/stronger that would be faking and such would sound unnatural).
7. The synth sounds too confusing for my taste and takes all the attention towards it self which I didn't like. I did enjoy the bass and guitar part but would love to hear this without the synth. EDIT; The synth sounds good in the mix from 1:10 to 1:50 but the rest is a bit too much for my ear. I would not mind hearing that squealing synth only at the beginning though as an intro.
8. Im a beginner so take my words with a grain of salt but I do like this tune a lot until 0:30 after that it sounds great but not my cup of tea taste-wise so cant really say anything. The guitar part sounds great! Bass sounds great too! Drum and Bass sound best in the first take even though drums are a bit thin sounding there, but important is that the drums give space to the groovy bass. In the new takes the drums (to my ear) are fighting the bass for the space, it seem as the drums fight for the low end space and the drum volume is too high for my taste, I would much prefer the bass to lead the groove and have drums just for the flavor a bit screwed down and maybe even take away some of the low end (if possible) but not as much as in the first take which was on the thin side. Subscribed for you future sonic endeavors Of course all this can be due to my headphones too so ...
9. Hi Rikki and thanks for replying! I hope you dont mind elaborating a bit more on the lead bass you mentioned; Do you feel it to bee too thin sounding, lacking some fx or maybe would sound better without the reverb? I will try and do something else with the lead bass and post later for comparison .... Thanks!
10. I just made this short improvisation with 2 basses and 1 guitar + some simple drum beat for extra feel. I like the idea of bass being the lead instrument (and rhythm too of course). https://soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/improvisation-for-the-one-im-waiting-for-2 All comments welcome especially if you know how i can improve my sound! Cheers!
11. Im a bed-room musician, a relative beginner that is, so keep my "rig" very affordable and "just what I need right now" for practice and some recording. Here is my practice amp Kustom PH2012R which is a 20 watt amp but comes with a 12" Kustom speaker which sounds awesome. This amp has a Reverb which is another plus. For the price you cant find better solid state with a 12" speaker, IMO. Behind is the Harley Benton CG-15 Watt with a 6,5" speaker. Loud amp non-the-less. I use both for stereo playing. My Digitech RP70 has 2 line out for stereo playing which is a great feature and great sounding multi processor pedal, I love it. I mean this pedal sounds so good it make me play every day (I cant motivate myself to play if the sound is crap) You have maybe seen my guitars in the other thread but anyway here it is again;
12. LOL chopping board look I love the chopping board look
13. Improvisation on my dear Harley Benton instruments, the SC-550 single cut and the awesome JB-75 bass. Both guitar lines played through my awesome stereo sounding Digitech RP70 multi processor pedal and the bass was played through the 'Helian 1st Bass' amp plugin (clean with compressor from Reaper). Interface is Behringer U-Phoria UM2. Recorded on Reaper DAW. Still learning how to pan and EQ multiple instruments. If you have time and are willing please do write your critique! Thank you! https://soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/improvisation-on-guitar-and-bass
14.
Hello, bassfriends! Have a question. I've using zoom b1on,... The issue is that sound is little bit clunk and boomy. Like from a barrel. Not totaly, but nocible. I played with eq settings, compressor, bass pickups itself. But couldn't get more clear sound.
I experience d the same issue with my ZOOM B1on and returned it to Thomann after 10 days. I too have closed back AKG K-55 headphones but they sound superb on anything else I have. The Zoom B1on has that barrel-ish-not-totally-but-annoying boomy sound except on the Chordal and on De-fret effect which is kind of fretless bass sound and such sound suits it imo. But I didnt want a multi fx pedal to just have one sound choice. Im sorry for not being able to give you a better advice.
15. Hi doomed! Nice pickguard! I am thinking of buying this pickgurd for my JB-75 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLORAL-FAUX-LEATHER-PICKGUARD-AND-CONTROL-PLATE-FOR-FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-5-STRING-/321807542443
16.
The best way to go about this is to shortlist a handful of songs that you want to sound like (sometimes called 'reference tracks'). Then spend some time experimenting with the setting on your bass, amp - and also your playing style - making a note of how different parameters affect the sound, and whether it's getting closer or further away from the sound you're aiming for.
Ok, this seems to be a good way to get it done, Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated!
17. I think Fender is much better than HB ---- ---- ... on the serious note though, I worked as a salesman for many years and if you have a product you need the advertising, which takes lots of money. You need shops willing to sell it, also adds to the money. Thomann was already so big internationally that advertising wasn't an issue. Thomann needs no other shops to sell the HB because they are already so popular, hence cutting down on expenses and selling to us cheaper. If Thomann would take over Fender they too would have HB price tags on
18. Thanks lads! But truth be told, after I bought this JB-75 bass I have been only playing on it for the last month or so and yesterday I took the L-450 to play a bit and MAN my fingers are missing whole frets and even strings because of my fingers getting used to the bass fret/string spacing
19.
and Lego - why did nobody mention Lego?
And Carlsberg
20. Thanks Dad but that is a bit too intense for my lazy brain, maybe once I get pension and have no other things to do, then I will browse through all those Cheers JTUK ! Will contemplate your words . Thank you!

22. Thanks Skol! When you say "twiddling around with the ‘Mids’ instead" can you share your settings in the clean channel for some styles like funk, rock, or whatever you play. I know EQ can be different from one amp to another, from one type of strings to another, old or new strings, pickups, tone pots, plucking styles, etc .... But just as a guideline I find it useful to get a picture what folks do with their EQing. For example I have that almost dogmatic impression that mids should never be more than bass/low end (as a matter of fact I try to always keep mids in the minus zone out of that fear that the bass will sound too thin), and if your experience shows me differently than I will be a tad bit more enlightened about this low end instrument. Thanks for all input!
23. Thanks Dad for such an elaborate reply, just what I needed, not as a dogma but a guideline for future sonic endeavors of mine, this info will help! Cheers!
24. Ah one more thing Dad; when you pan lets say 2-4 instruments do you ever go for radical panning like 80-100%? For example drums in the middle, bass all the way to the left and rhythm guitar all the way to the right and flute just slightly panned to lets say left? Or do you keep the instruments rather close to each other? Also do you know of anyone radically panning instruments and still sounding good? Thanks!
25. Thanks Dad much appreciated! You also seem to be a Night Owl. You are not one of those Vampire folks, are ya And good morning to you from a grey and very damp Denmark! This bloody damp weather is causing me all sorts of joint problems; 2 weeks ago left shoulder pain, then a few days ago lower back pain, this morning right shoulder pain and I'm only 40 for crying out loud. Actually my problems started at about the same time when I've got this bass of mine. Note, I never played bass before only guitard stuff so maybe my body is trying to adjust to the very much different instrument, in both the ergonomic and sonic sense. Off to coffee sipping ...
