1. Thanks all for replying I have found a way (thanks to our forum member Dad) to practice silently and what a great way and free that is I downloaded a few free but great sounding plugins 'Helian 1st Bass' and 'Emissary - Ignite Amps' ! You can hear both in this short tune of mine. The rhythm bass is 'Emissary Amp' and the lead is 'Helian 1st Amp' https://soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/2-basses-over-midnight
2. I know I should be in bed beside my wife at this time but I just can't stop playing with all this recording and bass stuff I just made a short instrumental with 2 basses. I am trying to learn how to pan the instruments and how to complement them in the same sonic space. I gave the lead bass more Mids and took lots of Mids away from the rhythm bass. I also gave much more low end to the rhythm bass. I panned the rhythm bass to the right around 20% and lead bass to the left 8% I could go louder with the lead bass but I just didn't feel like pushing the rhythm bass far into the background it just has that umph that feel right to be close to the front especially the second part of the tune. If you have time please do post your opinion. I would like to learn from your experience https://soundcloud.c...s-over-midnight
3. Just a quick update on my Deko JB-75NA; I had this bass now for month and a half and I only tuned the strings 3 times in the first week (new strings). After that there was no need to tune it! These tuners work nicely! At least for now they do. And yes I am playing this bass daily.
4. I've seen a 4 string like that one a month ago or so which only cost 75 Euros I think and I had the chance to buy it, was stupid to wait ...
5.
Oh well, education is a wonderful thing, I suppose. I, too, learn more each day, although not much Danish. My sum total of knowledge could be resumed as Copenhagen, bacon, Hamlet, pastries and Sandi Toksvig, sorry. (Oh yes; and butter. I'd forgotten butter...)
Is that all you know about Denmark my dear sir ? what about, (since you are a musician) TC electronic and Carl Martin ?
6. I like this 'Helian 1st Bass' amp plugin ! I didnt know such fantastic sounding bass plugins were available for free https://soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/helian-1st-bass-amp-plugin-clean-and-dirty-channels A must try!
7. Im new to Bass and needed something for quiet headphone practice. Thanks to this forum I found this plugin called Emissary Amp by Ignite Amps and it rocks. It has 2 channels and both sound awesome. You can read this thread and even download the other plugins they are all free and see which one suits your style; http://basschat.co.uk/topic/270992-bass-plugins-for-reaper-daw/page__view__findpost__p__2884462 I bought a very cheap Behringer U-Phoria UM2 audio interface and Im very satisfied with it (for the price its awesome). Check Thomann.de thats where I've bought it.
8. Ah, now I Googled Bill + Police and it came out as 'Old Bill' for British Police LOL Ok now I get it! Im no Brit hence the confusion but its never too late to get it I guess
9. I see your location is France I must be missing that French-style humor sorry, and also English is not my mother tongue so its easy to miss on things wordy ...
10. You helped me immensely in the last few days, hence its time I get the bill (I will pay you with a huge thank you) and get off your back for now otherwise I might end up having more such 'Forrest Gump' questions as "what means drone guitar"
11. OK thanks for clearing one more thing for me. You can now send me the bill
12. Thanks for taking time Dad Good man! Excuse my ignorance but what means 'drone' guitar (you can call me Forrest Gump from now on)
13. Thanks @RalphDWilson Yes a very fine amp plugin indeed! Im in love with it hence not testing the other plugins suggested in this thread (but I did downloaded them). Must test those tomorrow! I hope one is more fret-less sounding for me instrumental solos. Dad, you have cranked the wrong knob or at least you turned it to the wrong side. That knob is probably called de-Gain Love the playing, enjoyed it very much!
14. Thanks to you Dad I now have a great Amp plugin to work with This is the last track I have for you to give your opinion (after this one I will have a clear guideline how to do this EQ-ing etc). There are 2 bass lines (not the same) and 1 guitar line (ignore the drum machine please). Can you please tell me how you feel/hear the balance between all 3 instruments (yes ignore the drums and the Reverb too ) https://soundcloud.c...ower-remastered Thanks for all your help!
15. Sorry for late reply! Let me explain; I tried to download the Winzip but it asked for money and I simply didnt want to pay because I dont even know if Im gonna like those plugins. So decided to just forget this whole plugin thing and buy me self an amp instead when my wife asked whats up and I told her about this bloody Winzip etc ... She said that her computer has a WinZip ... So I immediately gave her the folder in a USB stick and voila it worked like charm!!! I didn't reply immediately because I was playing on the EMISSARY Ignite Amp! Man, that amp can PUNCH! Nice! Here is a quick and dirty sound check; https://soundcloud.c...-and-reaper-daw (sorry I just had to crank it up) Thanks Dad, you're the man! And I thank all others who contributed to this thread Cheers lads and gals (if any)
16. Thats exactly the advice I need
As an experiment, try taking your Reaper bass track, and duplicating it. Take all the fx away from this duplicate track, leaving just the raw bass line. Now mix the raw track and the present 'bass with fx' track; you should hear the low end coming back in, in parallel with the fx track. Mix to taste. ... reverb ... but may add an effect on a Master track, so that all have a similar 'hall' or 'room' sound together. This'll help bind them, sonically, into the same space.
Thanks Dad!
17. Ok I see. I thought Bass is to sound like a Bass (solo or not) thats the impression I've got from Bassists. And if there isnt enough low end in the sound it lacks "b.lls"
and from an EQ perspective, there's nothing wrong with that at all. 'Twould be a different kettle of fish if there was a drum/guitar/key/horn section alongside.
Ok, cool here we go then, another of my amateur fiddlings with guitar, bass and drum beat (Digitech RP70's drum machine) (please excuse the bad mixing) https://soundcloud.c...-slap-version-3 How do you feel now about my bass EQ with guitar and drums alongside?
18. Ok did all that, now I have Steinberg and VstPlugins in it BUT I just noticed now that all my plugins are in a Zip format and not .dll How do I reformat them? (if possible) example '3rd_Bass.zip' I tried to open that file and it sais "Windows cant ope this file"
19. No 'Steinberg* to be found that is what confuses me. I could find the 'Reaper (x64) but I cant move the folder there without administrator permission so Im assuming that is not the place to put it in.
20. I see this C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins
21. Im new to bass and am trying to get the sound right. Especially the low end which I never used to this extent for my guitars (yes I come from guitar background). I played this improvisation through my 'Zoom B1on' multi fx pedal and then into Reaper. It seems to sound "wrong". It sounds strange kind of numbing in my ears. I need your experienced ears to tell me what you hear here being wrong. Details; Jazz Bass with new D'addario 45-100 Nickle strings 'Zoom B1on' via 'Behringer U-Phoria UM2' (I used Hi-Z input) and then into 'Reaper' https://soundcloud.c...on-on-zoom-b1on Thanks
22. Computer is a 'hp' with Windows 7 (64). If thats what you mean (sorry never worked with computers more than Photoshop and Internet) Thanks Dad
23.
Instrumental what? Metal? Post-rock? Hip-hop? Funk? Do you use a plectrum or are you a finger player? Any effects? What amp do you use?
When I say instrumental I mean this Here you can hear me improvising a bit (please excuse the EQ Im trying to figure out the EQ on Reaper, I know this sounds too thin for a bass) https://soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/remembrance No amp sadly but am looking to get one soon. At the moment I just play direct into Reaper via me interface and add effects later in Reaper. Or I try and play into my guitar multi fx Digitech RP70 and into Reaper. I use either pick or thumb, or thumb and index finger, and learning to slap a bit
24. I did as told here and my computer cant find the vstPlugins on my C:drive or anywhere else. I did add my folder to the options-vst- in Reaper but nothing appears in the Reaper FX windows. (I did re-scan) Im so embarrassed I will have to read or ask over at the Reaper forum. I think for me its best to get an amp and then mic it and record that way ... ugh Thanks for all the tips tho, much appreciated
