1. I´ve since glued up the fretboard and top and cleaned up the outline a bit. Here´s where it sits as of now. Next up: neckpocket
2. The electrics seem to fit Added veneers (of the table wood) to the headstock and drilled for the tuners
3. Another thing to think about if you want even more right-swing is positioning the bottom strap button further up towards the neck.
4. Roughed out the headstock and volute. I added a bit of wood (an off-cut from headstock thicknessing) to make it bigger The clampening part 1. The back and middle layer of the body are married and the top is mostly ready for glue up Next up is glueing the FB, cleaning up the cavitys before glueing on the top...
5. now that is quite the spec. lovely flame on that maple aswell, are you going to add some accent veneers or is it gonna be all maple/light woods?
6. That looks great! and the neck pocket block is a good idea.. i'd steal it if i wasnt so lazy

Not a lot to report but here's the back with the cavity cover cut out
8. Looks great! Certainly doesn't come across as an off-cuts build
9. I've begun putting the top together. I glued up the two pieces for the center section and the three pieces for each of the wings. Im quite please with the grain matching of the wing portions, it's hard to spot where the join is That center section will get bound in the same way as the fingerboard. If I get it right I should have a decent neck pocket when the top is glued up.
10. Im calling it. I might redo the mix later but if I dont get around to it, here it is. EDM it is not https://soundcloud.com/organicpulseensemble/a-thousand-hands-edm

Thanks for the encouragment! I agree with your critique scojack. Sometimes its a matter of patience where i settle for good enough and other times i just dont know the limitations of what im working with. i feel like im learning with every mistake i make but i never run out of things to get wrong
12. So I started this a few months back but its been sitting pretty for a while but I think I might make progress soon so I decided to start a thread for it. Here´s the sketch, not all planned out but basically this is what I´m going for What it is;

8 strings, octave formation
28´´ scale
Thuya top and back
wenge and limba accent stripes (the way I glued these up, I´ll be surprised if I don´t have a few gaps... we´ll see)
mahogany center
mahogany/maple/purpleheart neck... to scarf or not to scarf, that be the question...
Fretboard will be bubinga
I might try making my own bridge... or just buy one of them schallers
will string it up with flats for all eight strings
pickups will be some random jazzbasspups I have lying around
Black Sperzel locking tuners for the real strings and sperzel copys for the alternative strings
hmmm, anything else? gluing up the mahogany core Here´s the neck and fretboard. The maple stringers are a bit uneven thickness wise. I´ll probably be able to hide the worst of it under the fb Here´s the wood used for the top/back (bookmatched since this picture was taken) and the fretboard That´s it for now!
13. Oh and the neck pocket area is alson just roughed out. I figured I´d remove as much wood as I could with the band saw while the body was in pieces...
14. Got the back and middle layer of the body rough-cut and planed. In the second pic you can see the back where I´ve cut a portion of the bottom layer away. This was planned but not carefully. The idea is that I will anchor the strings there and hide away the volume controls for the piezo but I don´t know if they will fit or not. If not I´ll just have to put the controls on top, no biggie, but I do like the thought of a clean front.
15. If you like busta rhymes check out his 90s group Leaders of the new school. Also juggaknots first album is very bass-tastic and one of the rappers has a very unique flow Oh, and Artifacts first album. Great bassy boom-bap
16. Thanks! Yeah i did spend some time pondering where to place the strap buttons. I figured, this way, the buttons dont show when looking at the front, and the balance is good.
17. And done! I had a bit of a scare when I was installing the pots and a piece of wenge fell out the top. I glued it back in and luckily the knobs cover most of the damage. Phew. I would probably have thrown this thing out rather than start over on the finishing. First impressions are good. The finish isn´t perfect but if you don´t look too close it looks pretty good
18. I put some words together to match the picture. This works when the picture doesnt give me any musical inspiration. "A thousand hands raised in joyful dance You can shake the weight of the world Just dance" That'll do for now. I aim to do my usual preachy modal jazz but a little more funky... or swingin...
19. Thanks for the comments, the woods in the middle (and the top) are indeed a little irregular in shape, thats just what i ended up with when i took the chair and table apart. Im as interested to see what it will end up looking like as anyone
20. Started work on this again after a bit of a winter hiatus. Here´s a picture of the jigsaw puzzle that is the body. Left to right, youre looking at the back, middle and top Clamping it up. Ive got the back and middle sections glued up, awaiting planing. I will piece the top together once I have the rest of the body glued up. Scarf joint glue up. I think it went okay. Not perfect but I should be able to get an acceptable result in post-production Thats it, hopefully I'll have this looking a little more bass-like by next week!
