Incredible how unremarkable it is in isolation. Some of it is even slightly scruffy- the first prechorus for example but…. The other version with the bass and drums is a different story, for some reason it’s a powerhouse, even though you can hear JD frequently rushing onto beat 2  compared to the drums. Music’s a funny old thing.

Maybe they didn't record with click tracks in those days?

  2. I've got a condenser mic C1 and a pair of C2. I've used C1 for guitar amp, vocals and now for kick drum.

I've used a pair of C2 for recording an acoustic, crystal clear result!

Now they are also used as overheads in ORTF configuration. They pick up the slightest sound. Cheap? I'd say good value for money.

What did you think of Stratego?

I've heard it now 3 times but it's not something that blew me away. There seem to be some guitar riffs that I'm not sure about. It would fit in with any latest Maiden album.  Will have to give it few goes or perhaps listen to the whole album in 3rd of September 😉

Stay away from Viagogo! I bought tickets for Testament/Death Angel/Exodus just before the pandemic hit us. Viagogo took my money and then emailed me a week later to tell me they didn't have a ticket for me after all. And would I please faff around trying to get a refund off them as it was far too difficult for them to just process it back to me automatically, honest.

Turned out for the best though - all three bands went down heavily with Covid after that tour because they'd come to the UK straight from Italy ...

Glad you have got your Anthrax ticket. I will try and get to two shows, that's a nice long UK tour they're doing.

Yep, been a fan since 80s but somewhat never had opportunity to see them, can't wait . The line up seems to have all members minus Dan Spitz.

I can see the point of offering pre-sale tickets to people who've made the effort to join a fan club/mailing list (or similar), although I'm not a fan of the whole VIP cash-cow (although I'll admit I'm considering it for Pearl Jam in 2022).  I really wanted to see Public Service Broadcasting at the Albert Hall; there was a big mailing about pre-sales, but these were limited to maybe 100 tickets, which sold out in minutes.

In answer to your question, it appears that for biggish artistes gone are the days where you could just buy decent/close to the stage tickets without having to pay a huge premium or be a member of something.  I do miss being able to just swing by the Hammersmith Odeon ticket office, see what was on the board and just see what they had.

I remember turning up outside a stadium in 1991 and buying a ticket for Monsters of Rock. Queensryche, Motley Crue, Metallica ( black album) and AC/DC ( Razors Edge). Bought seated ticket but for Metallica and ACDC we ended up in front of the stage. Good old times! No annoying mobile phones to restrict your view.

  6. Further to my previous post. Most agree than Di' Anno suited the first two Maiden albums, it's how we know Maiden and if there was a different singer back then we would have different opinions because we wouldn't know different. Di' Annno was not professional when he " challenged" the fan , he should've ignored it. There are other you tube videos out there where he however shows respect to Bruce. Fame doesn't last forever.

After No prayer for dying  I kept reverting to older albums. I gave X Factor and virtual XI a chance to listen as there is some good material. 2000 onwards, some great songs. Still go and see them live though.

New album? To be honest, it won't be better than 80' s material.

  7. I finally have a chance to or wanting to see Anthrax. They play at 02 Academy in Brixton in October 22. BUT, Priority tickets have been on sale since yesterday 10 am until Friday 9 am. Tickweb pre sale starts today at 10 am which leaves me with General sale on Friday at 10 am!

What are the chances of getting a good seated ticket. I am not into moshing anymore, I'd rather watch the show , gear etc.

Is there a way to get decent tickets nowadays without being a VIP or fan club member?

  8. I don't care what Maiden haters say, I've been a Maiden fan since The Number of the Beast  album release. I like DiAnno and Dickinson era. Bailey also fits well.

After No prayer for Dying , it took longer for some of the albums to get used to, but even Virtual XI has some great work there. I always prefer listening to the 80s Maiden and occasionally dip in post 90s Maiden material but one thing is for sure, I won't change with fashion.

First gig was SSOTSS, latest was Book of Soul where I met Dennis Stratton outside 02 going to the gig.

I managed to get Nicko's drum stick during a gig and hopefully one day it'll be Steve wrist band.

    Up the Irons!

I don't know about the UK, but Kreator used to be huge in the US, in the metal world at least. They were one of my faves in the late 80s/early 90s. Saw them 2 nights in a row with Coroner and wow did they put on a great show!

    Tormentor!

I play nothing but metal. Mostly Maiden and Megadeth, which I use a pick for but lately I’ve been getting hung up on my wrist position and picking technique to the point of overthinking it and probably making it worse. Sometimes I have a crack at whatever metal track tab gets suggested on YT. Kreator tabs seem very hard to come by online, I find.

I warm up to 80’s (guilty pleasure) rock like Whitesnake, Def Leppard etc which I play using finger picking. Am currently trying to develop my finger picking to three fingers so I can switch with the Maiden tunes but it’s going to take some time and practice to build up the finger strength (all things I am often short on). With the pick I've got the attack but with the fingers I've got the speed so it's a work in progress ...

I bought the JS2 Spectra last summer but really, have no gear to speak of. I have a little practise amp and a second hand Boss tuning pedal. I do have a virtually soundproof room for practising in though.

The background photo on my profile of the Jackson is a picture I took myself at a David Ellefson gig in London a couple of years ago. I went out for a drink with him afterwards.

I would never thought that Kreator was known in the UK.  Kreator reminds me my teenage years.

As for the picking technique, I am the other way. I can't pick fast with a pick on a bass. I tried some fast Megadeath lines to get the sound but my picking is very inconsistent.

Also shame, David was booted out Dave. I think they may struggle to replace him.
