The Nicko thing is the same as the others.
None of them really heard after the recording for quite some time. Bruce has a vid on YouTube where he tells the story

The album was apparently locked in the vault

Not sure. Apparently it was recorded 2 years ago, but Nicko only heard it for the first time a couple of months ago.

The whole album was recorded 2 years ago in Paris ....I don't get the Nicko part

I heard one of the longer tracks on Planet Rock. The first few minutes sounded a bit folky.

Bruce's first solo album was also a bit folky. Was that Writing on the Wall you're referring to?

Opinion from my feed on the Facebook is that this is their best album since Seventh Son.

Question is, is it as good as anything before Seventh Son?

The answer is no IMHO. But I grew up on the old   80s style.

I’ve listened to the album 3 times today.
For me The Writing on the Wall is the weakest song.

I know what you mean.....but now listening to it on a set of speakers rather than on my portable DAB radio it's not that bad.

There are some absolute cracking songs on the new album. I will have to listens loads before I can make my mind up with is best.

Listening to it again. Some great songs and mixture of styles from various Maiden albums.

One song in particular, had about 4  different Maiden album riffs/sound spanning over 20 years in. I will post which one later. The acoustic bass sound is just killer. I even hear guitar tone from Seventh Son album. The overall sound and production is one of the best Maiden material. The drums and cymbals in particular sound is amazing. The acoustic guitars is very subtle. I don't know if it's my headphones or speakers or meant to be sitting in the certain song parts/mix, but the bass in some parts jumps out at you and the keys sound a bit too high pitched every now and again. Could be my ears.

Was a HUGE Maiden fan, remember seeing them at Reading Rock Festival MANY years ago, when Bruce was on earlier in the day with Samson....Dual stage days, luckily, I was on the left hand side as were Maiden!!!

For me, Maiden will always be about Paul and that line-up.

    Happy days :)

So Bruce sang in Samsons before Maiden opened for UFO. Steve had visions

  7. Today , I cut a 4 inch port hole in bass reso head. A new tin of paint was a perfect size with a heavy vice on top of it. I followed it around with a sharp Stanley knife and the cut was perfect. Time to experiment with recording...

True, but he’s still ahead of his drummer in places. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but if he’d have been playing for the MD I had this week he’d have got the stink stare (having had it myself for similar misdemeanours! 🤦😉🤟)

I agree with you and maybe that's the same reason I couldn't play in a band because I'm a human being not a metronome. Next time I enter composition challenge on BC I'll post the bass track separately to get less brownie points.

In my teens and early 20s all I needed was long hair, loud amp, cool bass and being able to play galloping finger style and I was in.

Unless a pub punter is one of us, general public goes to watch live band to have fun.

I went to see Testament 3 years ago or so, the bass wasn't very impressive, he had technical issues and made it so obvious. Did anyone else noticed, maybe...but maybe 99% of the audience was head banging and moshing.
