How did I forget Fear Factory - Demanufacture and Obsolete are two of my favourite B string-centric albums.

Abyss by Unleash The Archers is a recent banger, also in B standard.

Psycroptic have guitars in drop D, I think, but the bassist plays a 5 live.

Last year I bought a feat factory vinyl, fh it's some heavy tunes in there.

As SH73 mentioned drop D tuning, I remembered why I got my first five string. It was during the height of Nu-Metal and I wanted access to that D. But, rather than hobble a bass by keeping it in drop D, I figured a five string would be more versatile.

Also, C# standard is quite a common tuning. Tuning up to it on a five string works really well. No more flubby bottom string.

I think Cradle of Filth do a lot in C#.

This , every time I play along in a dropped D to a song or two it's followed by standard e tuning. Easier to get a cheap 5 er

Jason Newstead played a 5 string a lot when he was in Metallica. I couldn't tell you which songs, though. I'm not really a fan of their music, just remember the basses. He's a very good bass player though, for sure.

He plays a six string on the Sad But True during Freddie Mercury tribute at Wembley in 92. The song is in dropped D tuning.

David Ellefson plays a five stringer but not sure what songs he uses them for.

Maybe some death metal songs, there are BC members who post  metal playing ( usually plays heavy stuff) in show us your playing video? Maybe they could advice, they post some great skills

  4. I returned to bass playing around 2010 and ever since I wanted to play in a band again, but I can't think of anything worse than gigging late night packing up worrying about parking close to the venue, having my gear stolen etc. When the first covid restrictions were lifted I went to a pub gig and watched the band packing, they seemed to pack their own gear. Maybe it was their arrangement. If it was me gigging , I'd get a lightweight cab, and me gone before the singer says thank you to punters.

Went home and checked t'Interweb for bad grammar and punctuation.

(... and, for pedagogic reference, it should be 'What exactly did you did do after your last gig..?' :friends:...)

Even then 'most recent gig' would be better than 'last gig', except for those really ending their playing career, but that's simply pedantry. -_-

I'm disappointed you not posting no police grammar vehicle.

  6. The simple explanation I can offer is that you can do a research on You Tube (some good some misleading tutorials).

I started recording when I joined BC and since I've learnt a tiny if information.

Before you buy anything make sure your PC, laptop, I pad or whatever you use, the operating system is compatible with the audio interface.

What I did, a basic starting point.: I bought an audio interface " Focusrite Scarlett 2i2". It has two inputs. This came with a free DAW, Ableton live. Most interfaces you buy will come with a free DAW.

You plug the Focusrite Scarlett to your PC via USB, use the instructions  to download package and set it up. ( It comes with a code etc).

Next step is to download your DAW to your PC/ laptop or whatever you use , then when you open the DAW you set up the preferences, audio in/out. I found the set up the most frustrating part but there are plenty of tutorial videos online.

Once it's all set up and your audio interface is connected . You plug an instrument into the interface audio and begin a new frustrating process of learning how to record etc. You will get there eventually.

  7. Another moronic delivery by Evri. about two weeks ago they lobbed a heavy item over the fence that landed on concrete patio. Luckily only bent the two brackets that that attach to the rack.

Good grief.  I've just turned 56 and I'm feeling it this week. The last thing I'd want is to have a demo I did in the 80s come to light and the buggers trying to give me a record deal now!  That ship of opportunity has sailed for me.

What if it comes with a nice 7 figure bonus?

  9. Three network- what a pile of shite! Never used to get a decent signal.

Skype- was atrocious, the calls constantly froze

Anything that has tarragon in it, disgusting herb, I'd rather eat a jar of marmite.

Old people's clothes, I will never dress that way.

12 is about to come out i see.

I can get an upgrade from lite to standard, including a free uograde to 12 when it's out for €166

Surely it will only go up in price when 12 comes out?

Im not sure i need standard yet though as im just getting into trying to record at home.

I've used lite with 8 tracks for years. Standard has unlimited tracks and other options available , but if you're just starting out you may prefer a different DAW as Ableton is mostly for electronic music, although I use it for everything.
