Thanks @Hellzero - I need to get inside my std USA Jazz to see differences, I'm not very up on the wiry bits😉

This thread does make me wonder about doing the series parallel mod on my std fretted one.

If I liked Jazz Basses, I'd do it to all of mine.  Great mod on Jazzes, not so much on Precisions.

Just sold a Sansamp Paradriver to Lewis. Absolute pleasure to deal with and a really easy transaction.

    Thanks!

Thanks Stevie!  Pleasure doing business with you!

  3. Hey all,

Had the Helix cut out on me a couple of times over 2 gigs, so I've put a ticket into Line 6 and I'm awaiting their response now.

Had it on at home for hours on end and it's not cut out even once since.  Had no problems with it at all for 18 months since I got it.

Got me thinking I should really have something to hand which is easy to carry around & can be setup quickly should the helix fail again ( I play ampless these days).

Used to have a Tech21 Para Driver when I was using a traditional pedal board and was always really impressed, so that's one for my list.

I also like the Dug Pinnick preamp thing too.

I'll be buying used if possible, and on paper the Para Driver seems to be the winner as it'll be cheaper and can be phantom powered.

From your own experiences, Any others I should consider?  I'm specifically thinking about something with a DI out.  Don't want 2 boxes!

Ideally no more than £150-ish too!

    Cheers!

  4. Bugger - You haven't got a Para Driver there as well by any chance have you Tony?

Need something for an 'in the gig bag' backup for the Helix.  Narrowed it down to a Para Driver or the Dug Pinnick preamp thingy.

Para Driver preferably as a) it'll be cheaper and b) it can be phantom powered..

The Killers - Have they swapped guitarists or something though? He was a lefty playing tonight and I’m certain the previous guy was a right handed?

I thought this too - They used to have a Fella with big curly hair

From Wikipedia - The Killers released a statement on August 28, 2017, confirming that neither Stoermer nor Keuning would participate in the band's upcoming Wonderful Wonderful World Tour, while reiterating that both are still members of the band. Jake Blanton would continue to fill in for Stoermer while touring guitarist/keyboardist Ted Sablay would fill in for Keuning.[68]

Before you do any thing, check the neck with the neck bolts loosened. Then see whether there is enough play to realign the neck. I had the same problem and had enough play to get the strings aligned.

It may not be the bridge. Sometimes you just need to loosen the neck, adjust it so that the G string is no longer too near the edge of the fingerboard, and then re-tighten it.

I'll second (or third!) that it could be worth loosening the neck bolts and shifting the neck. Worked a treat on my MIJ precision.

Yep - Done this on a few Basses.  I also suffer from OCD flare-ups when it comes to string alignment..

These days I generally take very little notice of the on stage sound (as long as I can hear myself and the drummer, and at least some of the vocal).  It can quite often be pants but the FOH sound is fine.

Very true - had an issue on stage last night with my helix cutting out, happened in the first song, came back to life somehow and then went again in the second song.  Couldn't risk going any further with the Helix, so I quickly grabbed the Behringer BDI21 out of my leads bag and on with the show.  Love the sound I get from the helix, and was gutted to have to switch to the Behringer.  Didn't really enjoy the gig after that.

I then listen to phone recordings today (with headphones) that the Mrs took, featuring both the Helix and the Behringer being used.  The BDI21 sounded just fine out front!

I saw a band recently who were all using IEMs and it was the best sound out front I’ve ever heard.

Same here - Metallica at Sonisphere 2014 was and still is the best sounding gig (indoors or outdoors) I've ever heard.  All on IEM's and no amps onstage (that I could see anyway).

  9. My best bargain was a local gumtree find.

Was looking for a cheap backup PJ configured bass.  2001 Squier standard in metallic black with a 15watt Fender combo advertised for £150.  Went and had a look and it was ok, if a little unloved (dead strings, dusty & needing a setup etc).  Bloke said it had been bought as a package about 10yrs previously.

Told him I didn't really need the amp and offered £100 for the Bass, and he offered me the lot for £120.  I took it and sold the amp on for £50, making a grand total of £70 for the bass.  Still got it as my backup.

Last couple of visits to Cardiff - PMT crammed to the gills, Cranes, a few doors away, almost deserted.

From, the Street Cranes looks like a shop for 'serious' musicians - "please show your Grade 8 certificate to the attendant before approaching the instruments". But out the back, loads of nice guitars (not many basses) and knowledgeable friendly guys.

OTOH, PMT sucks in all the wannabees and djent-merchants and has killed off most of the competition.

Sorry to be a pedant - but the shop a few doors away from PMT in Cardiff is Gamlins.  Cranes was at the other end of St.Mary street near the castle and was closed a few years ago now..

Just thought I’d share with you guys

i bought a BQ500 couple of months ago to use as a back up and as a mini rig for where I can’t lug around the big amp.

my main rig is an Ampeg SVT and 610 barefaced cab.

As my mini rig I’ve got the bq500 paired with a barefaced super compact 1x12. I run the amp flat and have a VT bass pedal that I use to get a remarkably close tone to my normal rig. (I a/b’d them with a lien selector until they were similar)

obviously the SVT is amazing but for the gigs where it won’t fit in the car with all the other stuff, where there’s stairs or even just practices. It is amazing and it small enough to fit in my backpack of stuff!

I used the BH250 with a super compact and it was great.
