1. I bought Pete's '95 Warwick Corvette, which I received today in perfect condition, it arrived quickly, it was expertly packed, and it's clearly an instrument that's been looked after really well over the years - exactly as described in his ad. Many thanks!
2. Thanks Rowbee, yep this one went pretty quickly, the classic vibes are great value for money, even if you buy them brand new, so second hand ones don't tend to stick around for too long.
3. I've just bought myself another Warwick, so in order to stop my girlfriend from giving me funny looks, I've decided to sell my Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass. It was bought brand new from the Gallery a few months ago, it's in great condition, plays beautifully, and sounds extremely close to its' Fender equivalent. Strings are HiBeams, also fairly new. (see Ed Friedland's review of the Classic Vibe series on Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6Cd98DH__U). Retail price is around £250, I'm looking for £175 plus postage. And as usual, if you're in London, I'm happy to jump in the car and deliver it at no extra cost. You're also welcome to collect it in person. 4. the Accelerator section is basically just a glorified Gain / Saturation Control. There are 2 knobs, the first one uses the valve for genuine analog tube warmth and dirt, the second one is for solid state style gain, it's a bit like having a modern and vintage amp rolled into one. According to Zoom, "Combining the raw processing power of the ZFX-3 with the 12AU7 tube accelerator produces richer harmonics and organic tone. By adjusting the mix balance, the thick characteristics of the 12AU7 tube and the striking clarity of the ZXF-3 can be adjusted so that saturation is natural and focused." ps. I am also open to trades if anyone has a small cab, something like a 112.
5. yep. it does about a million more things than I need, I personally just used it for the tube accelerator and the preamp and the cab simulations.
6. I had this for sale here brand new and unopened a while back and it didn't go, and in the end I couldn't resist and had to have a mess around with it, I ended up keeping it and doing some recording and jamming with it. It's an awesome piece of kit, the preamp section and the built in valve are excellent - but I still can't justify keeping it. It was bought for me as a gift and I have all the gear I need already (if anything I need to downsize rather than add to my already cramped studio). My original asking price was £190, but seeing as it's been opened and used a couple of times I'm happy to let it go for £175 plus P&P. The retail price is still around £280 on these, this one is well within its' warranty, it's around a couple of months old, and comes with original box, manual, exactly as it was when it arrived. If you're in London you're welcome to collect it in person, and if you're not too far from central London, I will even consider jumping in the car and bringing it to you. I am also looking for a small cab, if you have any cabs you'd like to trade let me know. pics below, any questions give me a shout.
7. yep, the Corvette $$ definately doesn't need any bottom end boost. it took me a while to figure out how to get the right sound from it, the key for me is to subtract from it, and not boost any of it, apart from maybe around 1k to bring out the high mids a bit. but i tend to eq out the boomy bit just above sub level and anything clangy at the top almost completely. anyway i digress... both pedals are now *sold*, many thanks to everyone involved.
8.
Where in the East End exactly? I tend to avoid most shops here.....
this particular shop was on the Kingsland Road just by the cinema opposite Tesco, but the same applies to any corner shop I've ever bought batteries from in Dalston, or absolutely anywhere in Tower Hamlets.
9. Yep, I think the stock-up option is probably the best idea for gigs. I'll have a look at Costco, Duracell batteries seem to last longest in my experience. I accidentally left my OC3 - which seems to drain most power for some reason - on for 3 hours earlier tonight during (and after) a gig, and with a brand new Duracell battery it was still happy after all that time. Power supplies are great but there's been so many gigs recently where I couldn't use them because of extra noise from ground loops, even in some decent venues (such as Cargo) it's a problem. I guess PSU's for rehearsals, and batteries for gigs will be the way to go. Cheers for all the good advice.
10. cheers for the links, i'll look into the ebay option.
11. all good advice.. especially like the bag of turd suggestion. i don't live there, i just have to rehearse there unfortunately. i use rechargeables, and that's a whole other rant waiting to happen.. they're Maplin rechargeable batteries, and they are crap. My Boss OC3 eats them less than 2 hours, whereas Duracell usually last for 3 or 4 long rehearsals. The trials and tribulations of batteries...
12. I know this is probably a bit off topic, but whenever I am forced to buy batteries from ANY corner shop in East London, the batteries are dead - every time. I am sick of getting ripped off by these motherf**kers. Someone in East London is distributing dead batteries at a dirt cheap price to corner shops, which they then sell at full price - it's bullsh!t. It's happened before, it happened twice last night. I know it's just batteries, but you know how annoying it is when you have to stop rehearsal at 11.30pm to go out and get new batteries, only to get back and find you've been sold a dead one. Then you go back to the shop to complain, and the guy tellls you you're not having a refund, because you've opened the packaging and you could be lying and just bringing in an old battery etc etc.. these people are bastards. So my advice is, if you need batteries, avoid corner shops in East London and get them from somewhere reliable, don't get ripped off. Apologies for the rant, I needed to get it out of my system. I feel better now.
13. In answer to your questions: - nope the Tone Hammer doesn't come with a power supply. (but as far as I could tell it doesn't eat batteries like some other pedals). - comparing the 2 pedals: They have very different characteristics so I'm not sure if I can make a direct comparison, but here's what I thought: the VTBass sounded brilliant with my jazz bass and it does a very respectable impression of the classic Ampeg sound, but it's good for loads of other things too, I found it pretty versatile. I now primarily play a Corvette $$ which IMO doesn't need the Ampeg beef so much because the bass is already very boomy and growly, so since playing the Corvette as my primary bass it hasn't had so much use. (I have to use a Boss EQ with the Corvette to surgically remove all that boomy crap, but it's worth it). The Tone Hammer is a very solid and chunky pedal, it's well built and sturdy, it feels and sounds 'expensive'. It's very analog sounding, and I used it as a DI box at a couple of gigs, which made my bass sound suitably growly and fat through the PA. It can be used as a gentle EQ and tone-shaper, but with the AGS switch engaged the Gain control goes into tube overdrive mode, which sounds subtly fuzzy at low levels, and raw and dirty when it's turned up. Sounds amazing if you play with a pick and like a raw but confident and tight bass tone. (In fact this pedal made me wish I wasn't so sh!t at playing with a pick..) This is all just my own experience and opinion, but I genuinely think they're both cool pedals. I would definately keep them if I didn't need a new amp.
14. Apologies for the crap photos, both pedals are in perfect condition, both bought brand new, I'm sure they need no introduction, they are both fantastic pedals. I need to get some money together for a new amp soon so unfortunately they need to go. Aguilar Tone Hammer - £120 (*sold pending usual*) Tech21 VT Bass - £100 (*sold pending usual*) I'm in Central / North London, if you're nearby I don't mind doing a drop-off, otherwise please add cost of postage too. PM if you need more pics / details / etc..
15. pre-ebay bump, i'm surprised this hasn't gone yet.. few more days then it's off to the bay.
16. yep this thing is a beast, i wish i could justify keeping it
17. I have been given this as a present, this thing is ace but I have no real need for it, and I have my eye on a few other things I need more urgently. It's absolutely brand new, still in the box with full warranty, it sounds fantastic and has a huge amount of sounds and options, the amp modelling is excellent, it also comes bundled with Cubase LE, you can just use it as an FX unit or connect it to your computer and use it as your main input for recording at home / in the studio. The retail price is somewhere between £280 - £315, I'm looking for £190 plus postage which is a BARGAIN - grab it now and save me the bother of having to put it on Ebay.... Alternatively if you're in London and want to save on postage costs you're welcome to come and collect in person. photo from google, i can post actual pics if anyone needs them
