  3. I've been playing pub gigs for around 10 years using a 250 Watt amp and a 2 x 10 cab - its rarely been up above about 30% volume and I've often been told I'm too loud. I've never struggled for volume in a reasonably loud 2 guitar band. The key to having enough volume for the bass is to control the guitarists who always think the louder they are the better the sound. They're wrong. For small gigs don't even think about miking up the drums. I had a period of going direct from the amp via a DI out though the PA but the band thought it sounded better with a dedicated bass cab.
  4. Rhyme f the Ancient Mariner - Iron Maiden
  5. Green Green Grass of Home - Tom Jones
  6. Apart from when your lead guitarist gets drunk, and doesn't realise his new tuner is chromatic. That most definitely lasted more than a second and there was no way the band was going to ride that one out.
  7. I like playing bass in a band - at least in some bands. I don't particularly like the gigging experience, and definitely don't enjoy some of the hassle being part of a gigging band entails. On balance I'm happier not playing in a band. It's a bit like only wanting to play golf when the sun shines and realising you live in England.
  8. I only ever had equipment failure once when the jack socket disappeared into the bass - typically it was when I failed to take a spare bass.
  9. Two basses One Amp One 2 x 12 cab Small pedal board Case full of leads, picks, spare strings and a few tools Guitar stand DI cable, just in case A towel and spare T shirt In my last band I also had Small digital mixer 2 x 15" PA speakers PA Stand A few lights Mic And normally the singer
  10. I got fed up with the never ending cycle of formng a band, getting good enough to gig, getting gigs, arguing about set lists, not enjoying gigs, the band falling apart for trivial reasons, forming a band........etc. I've given up on the idea and I'm happy enough writing and recording on my PC - virtually no one listens other than those that click through the link in the monthly BC comp.
